I am completely enamoured by this ladies voice and music. Alternating between spoken word, Rap and traditional singing with genuinely interesting lyrics and beats generally provided by a live band. This is no angry young girl MTV rap wanting to draw attention to itself. Instead it crosses genres lyrically and musically. Above all she seems genuinely talented. The album A Badly Broken Code is well worth checking out if you like a broad sound to your Hip Hop.

What do you think? He's one of my favorite rappers. I have three of his albums. Life's A Bitch and I'm Her Pimp, Dungeon Master of Ceremonie, and mc chris is dead, and they're all really great. Also, he's on of the only rappers who has good skits. At least most of them are prety hilarious.
  3. South Korean's foreign minister will visit China next week, Seoul said Tuesday, as it seeks to persuade veto-wielding Beijing to consent to a UN condemnation of North Korea's new nuclear programme. During the March 28-30 trip, Kim Sung-Hwan will hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi and pay a visit to Premier Wen Jiabao, the ministry said in a statement. The foreign ministers are expected to focus on how to deal with Pyongyang's uranium enrichment programme, as Seoul and Washington want a UN Security Council presidential statement condemning the programme, which was revealed last year. But the North's ally Beijing has said such a move could aggravate tensions, insisting the issue should be handled within the framework of six-party talks involving the two Koreas, the United States, Japan, Russia and host China. The talks, which aim to obtain the isolated North's denuclearization in return for economic aid and diplomatic gains, have been deadlocked since Pyongyang walked out in April 2009 in protest at UN condemnation of an apparent missile test. The hardline communist state staged its second nuclear test the following month, sparking tougher UN sanctions.
  4. Libya's government has released four New York Times journalists, six days after they were captured by pro-government forces while covering a rebel uprising in the country's east. Libyan authorities handed the journalists to Turkish diplomats in the capital,Tripoli, on Monday. Turkey says it helped to secure the release of the four and expects them to leave Libya within hours. The released journalists include New York Times Beirut bureau chief Anthony Shadid, photographers Tyler Hicks and Lynsey Addario, and videographer Stephen Farrell. The newspaper says the four were detained last Tuesday while covering the conflict between government and rebel forces in the eastern town of Ajdabiya. It says they had crossed from Egypt into the rebel-controlled eastern region of Libya without visas, like many other Western journalists. Several foreign journalists have been detained or gone missing in Libya since February 15, when the uprising against Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi began. Among the missing are two journalists with the French news agency, AFP, and a photographer accompanying them. AFP said Sunday its reporter Dave Clark and photographer Roberto Schmidt were last in contact on Friday night, when they sent an email saying they planned to travel to an area 35 kilometers outside the eastern city of Tobruk. AFP said the two journalists were accompanied by Joe Raedle, a photographer for the Getty Images agency. It said the three planned to meet opponents of Gadhafi and speak with refugees fleeing the fighting. On Sunday, Qatar-based television network Al Jazeera said Libyan authorities arrested four of its journalists who had been working in western Libya. The network said "regional parties" are helping to secure their release.

  7. I'm not sure whether there's any Greg Dulli/The Afghan Whigs/The Twilight Singers-fans on here but there should be...The Afghan Whigs were one of the best alternative rock bands of the '90s. If you didn't know, The Twilight Singers are Greg Dulli's post-Afghan Whigs project and they released their fifth album Dynamite Steps on February 15.
  8. I am not too familiar with this band, but what I have heard is at least considerable for a more mainstream group. They may not be the most 'original,' but they can offer something harmonious enough to float away on. Does anyone else find them tolerable?
  9. Here is a challenge to all you acoustic lovers: what are the best acoustic songs that no-one but you know about? The kind of thing you throw into a conversation, after which everyone does that kind of scrunchy lip-thing as if to say, "no, no, only you know that one..." I'll start. 1) 30 Odd Foot of Grunts - "Sail Those Same Oceans" 2) David Ford - "I Don't Care What You Call Me" 3) Robert Downey, jr - "Snakes" 4) Tabitha's Secret - "Dear Joan" Go on, amuse me!

  14. Who is the the most influential person in music...EVER? Now it has to be one person, so if you want to vote for a band you're going to have to narrow it down to who out of that band is the most influential. I'm going to have to say John Lennon. I've only heard a couple of songs from him as it's not really my style of music, but nearly all my favourite bands list him or The Beatles as their reason for getting into the business.

I love Joe Jackson... well, at least I really love 3 of his most popular songs. His best stuff is from the late 70's and early 80's. He had a cool style then. Very elegant & refined looking, I still adore his song Stepping Out - I will play it over & over again on my IPod sometimes. Any fans or even anyone familiar with his stuff?
