Bumping this thread due to a personal concern (after getting a question from a subscriber), especially regarding dance/electronic music production and since tools like VOCALOID have been mentioned here. Is it possible to differentiate unauthorized AI vocals from speech synthesis? There's this interesting VOCALOID competitor, SynthV, which offers human-like vocals for its synthesizer, and of course with consent from the voice providers. But with the rise of AI slop out there, especially tracks that made it to UK Top 100, it's starting to worry me. I also find myself generalizing that all AI vocals are now unauthorized, even if they come from producers who've been producing for 20+ years. In reality, they might just be using VOCALOID or similar tools. Are speech synthesis tools "really fine," and will they never hurt the market for real vocalists in the future? This question is specific to musicians/bands that mostly do instrumentals, so I'm genuinely curious about your perspective on this.
