Credit to Alexandra's PR machine. Despite having pretty much no airplay support, she has been EVERYWHERE the last few weeks. Hopefully it'll pay off...
  2. http://www.billboard.com/#/news/whitney-ho...006203562.story They explain the changes in this article. Seems that from now on, if a song qualifies to be in the top 50 it will do so. Seems fair enough to reflect public interest, and it is in line with the 20-week limit on the rest of the chart still.

It's easy to say 'oh the saturdays are very front-loaded' but you have to wonder why Leona and Pixie aren't proving more front loaded. WHERE ARE THEIR FANS?! Leona has just done her biggest bit of promo for the song and it has done nothing. All Fired Up has much more vested radio interest, and has had an all round better campaign than Notorious. I think they could surprise us. Take that Cowell.
  4. Looking at the digital sales for TGIF (156,000) and Party Rock Anthem (160,000) compared to Moves Like Jagger (219,000) I would not be surprised if the latter manages to get to the top of the hot 100 in a fortnight, with the other competitors now on the drop - I imagine LMFAO will take it back for a week next week, Maroon 5 still have some serious airplay headway to make.
  5. It also borders on feeling like cheating to get the record.
  6. Having originally resisted this Beautiful People song, I actually quite like it now! A Kylie Minogue song but chunkier. If chunkier is a suitable word to describe the song. Overall hits, I am glad I decided to look at your chart as it is VERY GOOD.
  7. I think it is important that a legal purchase still has more importance on the chart then a stream of a song, but it might be time to incoporate streams. At university we pretty much all stream, little actual downloading. It is just about getting a fair ratio - do you say 10 streams are equal to 1 download? More? Less?
  8. I think my point is that the comparisons between pop acts are much more frequent then between rock acts. There are tons of rock bands but far less pop acts, and as Edith is not obviously interested in pop music itself (thank goodness for scott mills) it just seems slightly unfair she would make the comment, when she would never had said a similar comment about Snow Patrol or Biffy Clyro. And the playlists are much more open to pop music now, which is fantastic. But earlier in the decade Britain was turning out very few new pop acts (Girls Aloud were there, but took a long time to get 'credibility' so Sugababes kind of ran the show) as instuitions like Radio 1 failed to give them exposure on an equal level as to a group like The Killers.
  9. It's interesting how quickly the record companies have adapted to the new climate really.
  10. Edith Bowman has blasted The Saturdays for being copycats. The BBC Radio 1 DJ also hit out at current pop acts for offering nothing different, reports the Daily Star. "We need something different - everyone is the same," she said. On The Saturdays, whose new single charted at number three yesterday, she added: "They are just copying Girls Aloud. "They are not exciting." Source: DigitalSpy -------------- This has REALLY annoyed me. I've never taken a personal issue with Edith, but she shows why Radio 1 needs more pop specialised DJs. Radio 1 is so harsh on pop music (less so now, 6/7 years ago it was absurd) and Edith has supported countless carbon-copied rock bands over the years, have they ever been compared to other artists? It's ridiclously unfair. Britain probably has 3 big pop acts (JLS, Girls Aloud and The Saturdays) and she takes issue to one having a similar pattern to the other, when the station quite happily plays all these rock bands without commenting on how they borrow from each other. It's even more concerning that a radio 1 dj cannot distinguish between a saturdays and a girls aloud song.
  11. It's a shame really as the top 10 has become alot more static in the last few years (and therefore more enjoyable, having a top 10 hit is much more of an achievement now) but the number one slot has become a joke. Adding an airplay component is not a bad idea, but the playlists are so controlled (I did not personally like The Wanted's song, but the fact that it sat on the top spot and radio 1 still refused to play it shows how dangerous counting airplay could be. But I heard rumours of streaming counting? This seems like quite a good idea as the likes of spotify grow. As long as a streams are ratio'd down so that a legal download still has the weight of importance on the chart, it could be a good way to move the chart forward.

I'd love to see Green Light get to No 1 purely as this summer has been lacking a cheesy summer anthem so THANK YOU roll deep. However if they don't go the distance i'd rather Flo gets a second week purely as this year is getting out of hand with all these number one changes.
  13. I imagine that when we say sales have grown since FIO then sales for Missing You will naturally be a little bigger as more people are downloading. I'd be suprised if it did not manage 50k but at the moment that can get you anything from a no 3 position right down to no 8. Will depend on the strength of other song sales next week.

So even if the song leads for the next 3 days we think it is unlikely it could get the no 1 spot come sunday? I would quite like to see it get no 1 just to teach the wanted a lesson for the LONGEST PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN in recent history. My goodness it has been around since time began I swear.
  15. I am suprised it is not more popular, I think it is a fantastic summer song!
  16. How much did body language open on?
  17. Certainly better with a full listen. But not a no 1 I imagine, shame really as I hoped they would have learnt that leading with a ballad is a bad move after last year. Top 5.

I imagine England staying in the competition will keep Shakira from falling. At least until sunday! Marvellous news for England, will be interesting to see how the football songs move over the next few days in the build up to sunday.
  19. The entire Basement Jaxx back catalogue? Feelings Gone with Sam Sparro has been played to death on my itunes - such a shame it was never a big hit.

I mean she hardly DOMINATED the early noughties did she?

I'm certainly not a massive footie fan but look at these sales, it's incredible! The chart has been so predictable so far this year (you can normally tell by midday sunday what the following week's number one is going to be) I think this is great to get some passion back in the charts. It shows how much England cares!
  22. Espically off an album with plenty of better choices, such a shame.
  23. Kylie's release has been bumped up to june 13th. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/news/a21...ased-early.html

Pop is off to a good start in 2009. If the saturdays released this it would be hailed as their best song since up and go top 5, but under mini viva's umbrella I think it may sadly go missed by the larger audience. In other words, UNFAIR FLOP.
  25. Whoever produced this KNOWS how to make a pop album. Catchy beyond words, an album that reminds you do occassionally get brilliant pop albums. Comparisons with Come & Get It are very accurate but hopefully this won't vanish like that did.
