Jaz Ranks The 2013 Number Ones
It was pretty random to watch Robin Thicke become such a talking point for a short while, after vaguely being aware of him through 2007's 'Lost Without U' via Now 67 and the song 'When I Get You Alone' which had been covered on Glee. Almost as retrospectively random as Kendrick Lamar scoring his first top 40 hit with a feature on Thicke's 'Give It 2 U'! I think I was a bit too young to properly grasp how inappropriate the lyrics of 'Blurred Lines' were at the time, plus it was a completely different era, pre-#MeToo - so it got a pass. My prom was in 2013 and everyone went wild for this song when it came on, as you'd expect for the biggest of the year. But what a fall from grace it has had since then. I agree that production-wise it is good but the lyrics do leave a bad taste, so it's not a song I'm in a rush to revisit nowadays. The thumbnail of that 1D video is another time capsule! Nobody cared that the world's biggest boyband was goofing around with a Tory PM but there would definitely be discourse nowadays. Like Harry's 'RIP Baroness Thatcher x' tweet from the same year randomly getting dragged up from time to time. Musically, I adore the original 'One Way Or Another' (although triggered that it booted me out of the Pop Factor contest on this site when paired against Nelly Furtado's 'Maneater' ) and 'Teenage Kicks' is great too, but this mash-up falls flat. I still dipped in and out of Saturday Night Takeaway at the time so recall that PJ and Duncan performance well! Musically it is pretty naff but I still loved the randomness of that chart moment

BJSC 188 ⬛⬜ The Black And White Room ⬜⬛
So excited for this edition! Pretty set on my current potential as I looped it about 10 times in a row which is always a good sign. I'm planning to send a long* ethereal trancey thing with YouTube views in the hundreds, simply needs to be shared (* long as in 7 minutes not half an hour x)

The universe not wanting this version to chart once again! I learned from the TOTP Story of 1993 documentary that Dolly’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ was originally going to be used for the Volkswagen advert that sent ‘Young At Heart’ by The Bluebells to #1, but Whitney’s version becoming so successful changed those plans and paved the way for that chart-topping switch instead.

Very sad circumstances but it would be great to see Dolly achieving a U.K. #1 single under her own name in the coming weeks, after Whitney’s version of ‘I Will Always Love You’ got there and also that Comic Relief version of ‘Islands in the Stream’. Fingers crossed ❤️

RIP Dolly Parton
Oh that's heartbreaking news. 😭 I think I first came across Dolly as a kid when she was a guest star in Hannah Montana and then found my way to her classics. One of those celebrities who seemed universally beloved, deservedly so. Her husband of many years passed away just last year so at least they'll be reunited now. RIP Dolly 🕊️

A strong start to the week! Diane Parish and Scott Maslen were both phenomenal, really moving performances. I liked the hopeful ending too after such heavy scenes.

VOTING: EDITION 14: The Best Song Contest in the World... Ever! ~ Singer Songwriter
Voted! I can't wait to find out who sent my favourite. The '60s and '70s really delivered. ❤️ I thought the chorus of that Youssou N'Dour song sounded familiar and a bit of digging tells me that's because it was in the BJSC '80s spin-off! That previous outing was almost a decade ago now at least.

Friday Chart Predictions
Monday midweek positions for all of the Girls Aloud reissues so far: Sound of the Underground: #9 What Will The Neighbours Say?: #10 Chemistry: #15 Tangled Up: #16 So a single place slip since last time much like the difference in positions between the first two! Shame the trajectory isn't the other way round as I think each of these albums is better than the last.

Top 100 Best Selling Singles Of The 1970s
'Fernando' is gorgeous. Neat there was a connection between Wizzard and ABBA for the 'See My Baby Jive' write-up! That song is pretty much a non-festive version of 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday' sonically, for me. I prefer their other chart topper. 'Tragedy' is of course a classic. Shame the also mentioned 'Shadow Dancing' didn't catch on here, especially considering it was big enough in the U.S. to be the EOY #1 for 1978 there, such disparity. 'Way Down' is a pretty average Elvis song for me but I understand its placement here, considering the circumstances. My mum said his death is one of her earliest vivid memories of a news story at the time! My festive namesake back with their... unique stylisations. 'Cum On Feel the Noize' is a good one from them, pretty anthemic and I like the Oasis version too. 'Oliver's Army' the superior Elvis song from today's batch

Jaz Ranks The 2013 Number Ones
Looking forward to this! I turned 16 in 2013 so sat my GCSEs that year and moved into A Levels during the Autumn. But I spent plenty of time obsessing over music otherwise and moved my personal chart to BuzzJack this year, after originally starting it on YouTube back in 2011! That area of the forum, The Lounge and following the weekly chart thread encouraged me to post more on the forum, to the point of winning 'best emerging poster' in the Awards that year, however, would not become as prominent as I am now until 2015. I have quite fond memories of the charts this year too and vividly recall that period of big hitters that you mentioned!
