Putting Jean and Priya together as scene partners was a great move! This is the most likeable Jean has been for me in ages. I loved Priya and Ravi together once upon a time but struggling to feel invested at this point, especially with the confirmed exit for Aaron Thiara Kitty Castledine is fantastic so I was here for a Penny-centric episode. Suki was pretty likeable in their shared scenes today too. I was thinking just the other day that I was missing Oscar, so yay for a glimpse of him finally, ready to see more of his energy again
  2. ^ Fingers crossed! Just noticed 'Pocketful of Sunshine' by Natasha Bedingfield is back (#159) following its fleeting appearance a couple of weeks ago, so maybe not all hope is lost with that
  3. Fontaines have fallen to #13 today, hopefully they can stabilise well now that drop is out of the way 2010s nostalgia continues as the following songs are back: 109 Tove Lo - Talking Body 153 B.o.B - Airplanes (feat. Hayley Williams)
  4. Phoebe Bridgers this week! I was looking forward to new Gurriers but this didn't grab me as much as their last couple of songs
  5. Need to have a proper listen to this front-to-back but I'm happy 'The Governor's Waltz' seems to be hanging around in the Spotify top 200, as it instantly grabbed me. I was bound to love it from the off with a reference to The Shining in the first verse!
  6. I'm so pleased that 'Madam Butterfly (Un Bel Di Vedremo)' was a good discovery for quite a few at the SyncTube session, including yourself - it would top that group for me too. My first exposure to it was on my Now 4 vinyl as a teen and my ears couldn't quite believe what they were hearing! This was from the same Malcolm McLaren of 'Buffalo Gals' and 'Double Dutch'?! What a satisfying swerve. It's a breath-takingly beautiful blend of genres, with the operatic vocals particularly stealing the show. Alphaville's 'Forever Young' never making the top 40 is such a shocking stat on paper, especially with its revival in the streaming era, but I'm glad the group managed a top 10 result out of 'Big In Japan' - also a quality release. I'd highly recommend the accompanying album! I was once on the hunt for more '80s synth-pop records to sink my teeth into, so looked up recommendations from forums and found the likes of that album and The Human League's Travelogue, both fantastic. Speaking of acts with a lack of chart presence here... it's shocking to me that The Romantics never touched the U.K. chart, as I'm really familiar with both 'Talking In Your Sleep' and 'What I Like About You'. At least Bucks Fizz gave the former some kind of top 40 stamp here, even if I wouldn't choose it over the original. Shame I didn't have room for 'Master and Servant' in my weekly SyncTube top 5 votes! A striking release from the group both lyrically and production-wise. Snap favourite for the next group as it couldn't be anything other than the epic 'Purple Rain' at the top for me too 💜 I first discovered the song when Ruth Lorenzo performed it on the X Factor, unaware of how much I'd adore the whole album as an adult. I'm pretty sure I came across Blondie's 'Call Me' from that series as well, thanks to Diana Vickers, so a formative time for some of my '80s favourites. I've still been trying to work out why 'Purple Rain' re-entered the chart in 2012, as per the discussion on SyncTube and the best evidence I can find for its boost remains a reduction to 59p on iTunes, what a time capsule. Glad the song eventually re-peaked even if under sad circumstances. An evergreen classic from the purple one! A tragically low showing in the charts for the wonderfully classy 'Smooth Operator' indeed! The first top 20/40 hit with 'smooth' in the title, but should've been top 10. Unsurprisingly Michael Jackson is the one who will rectify this, with Santana and Alien Ant Farm following suit... 'Apollo 9' was produced by Tony Visconti so neat that it should wind up in a section alongside Bowie, a long-time collaborator of his. I never got into his solo career as much as his work with the Ants, but shame his Live Aid appearance was quite the flop as mentioned by John, stalling his chart career until the '90s as you say. I only recently found out that he was part of the line-up of another iconic event, the Motown 25 special featuring that iconic 'Billie Jean' performance, how random! I understand Adam was a bit of a style icon for MJ though.
  7. Wow well done Rollo for the full house yesterday! today's game: Round 1: 33 (didn't get: Peter Skellern) Round 2: 30 (didn't get: Passengers, The Three Degrees) 3-in-10: 3 (Need You Tonight, Suicide Blonde, Never Tear Us Apart)
  8. 'Son Of My Father' is quite easily my favourite of that trio! An early glimmer of Moroder's brilliance and feels like a leap into the future as part of a #1s marathon, with that synth sound. Errol Brown was my nan's other celebrity crush that I'm aware of so she'd approve of this countdown so far Well... that Neil Reid song is not as bad as the also mentioned 'Long Haired Lover From Liverpool', but still dross. Mary Hopkin is comfortably my favourite Opportunity Knocks alumnus that I'm aware of.
  9. 01 Charli xcx - Music, Fashion, Film 02 Ariana Grande - petal. 03 Slayyyter - WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA 04 Overmono - Pure Devotion 05 Cannelle - CINNA 06 Olivia Rodrigo - you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love 07 Man/Woman/Chainsaw - Cannonball 08 Eartheater - Heavenly Body: If I’m the Bottle You’re the Message 09 Kelela - new avatar 10 L'Rain - fata morgana
  10. Wow Fontaines have debuted at #3 on Spotify!! 🥰
  11. I think she first charted for me in 2021 but my appreciation for her this year is next level, what a talent. omg I'm so happy to hear that <3 here's hoping for a decent result in the final! thank you for commenting <3
  12. I’d say that is generally the case but my grandad is a Bee Gees super fan, so that rubbed off on my dad a bit, in amongst the rave stuff he was listening to in the ‘90s at least it wasn’t the Take That version…!
  13. This album has now shot up to #17 in the mids! Tour boost doing its thing *.*
  14. I felt awful being the one who had to announce that 0 pointer, in my electronica edition 😭 thankfully Jester came back strong with top 3 in the next contest!
  15. Strapping in for another “who knows” kind of month for my own entry based on these predictions so far then
  16. Ooh last time I checked this was still greyed out in my playlists but indeed showing again now with this upload! Excellent, thanks for the heads up Think it was previously on the Colour Girl album which is all greyed out apart from this one song now this single upload exists.
  17. Sorry I missed your previous post when I was catching up on a few pages of the thread in one go, thanks for clearing this up 😊
  18. Shame if some impending episodes are being pulled! I thought I remembered previous Scott chart rundown voiceovers being left in since the scandal broke, so I wonder if it's something more unexpected, like when episodes with the 'Gouryella' video in were skipped over. --- Catching up on the August posts in the thread so far. Aw at that William Orbit produced Madge/All Saints top 2 the other week - very fitting. 🕊️❤️ My favourite new entry in the top 10 that week was 'Sitting Down Here'. Rinsed by the radio but I've never tired of its charms. I don't think I knew the second Vengaboys album was called the Platinum Album - Platinum Pixie who x 'Won't Take It Lying Down' is my favourite Honeyz release! The single edit did a great job of adding some extra oomph to it. 'Don't Give Up' was a great #1 Chicane another fantastic ambient electronic producer and I like the cold stylistic choice of Bryan's vocal processing too, against the more hopeful lyrics. Didn't realise it was a chart topper by such a slim margin, phew. 'Still D.R.E.' what a classic 😎 I'm obsessed with Lulu's Playboy Bunny shirt on the TOTP re-run: Fell in love with this cover via Julian's 2000s top 40 hits thread and then it soon got removed from streaming! Hope it's back one day 🙏
  19. Well done John and Rollo for those 39s yesterday! today's game: Round 1: 36 (didn't get: Nick Lowe) Round 2: 30 (didn't get: Vonda Shepard, Alvin Stardust) 3-in-10: 3 (I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday, Angel Fingers, See My Baby Jive)
  20. David and Sia, much like Calvin and Florence, were a great team at the time - I really like both 'Titanium' and 'She Wolf (Falling to Pieces)' from them. I don't rate 'Don't You Worry Child' quite as much as others (although I'm another who looooved 'Greyhound' and still do) but it's still good and takes me back to my secondary school experience coming to an end. Fantastic countdown, RFC! I thoroughly enjoyed reading your commentary for each song. My own top 10 would look like this: 01 Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know (feat. Kimbra) 02 Rudimental - Feel the Love (feat. John Newman) 03 Calvin Harris - Sweet Nothing (feat. Florence Welch) 04 Coldplay - Paradise 05 David Guetta - Titanium (feat. Sia) 06 fun. - We Are Young (feat. Janelle Monae) 07 Florence + The Machine - Spectrum (Say My Name) (Calvin Harris Remix) 08 DJ Fresh - Hot Right Now (feat. Rita Ora) 09 Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe 10 Swedish House Mafia - Don't You Worry Child (feat. John Martin)
  21. I didn't realise how dark the lyrics of 'Angelo' were until now From one artist who appeared in Eurovision to another! Although Baccara had their #1 hit before taking part in the contest and didn't perform quite as spectacularly as Brotherhood of Man, but still did well, finishing 7th... for Luxembourg *_* a couple of places higher than Spain that year. Not sure I was aware they were the first Spanish act to make #1 here, so that's cool to know. 'Yes Sir I Can Boogie' is great fun and my favourite of this latest trio to drop out. ❤️ 'How Deep Is Your Love' was the first dance song at my parents' wedding!

The deep voice in this song is Theron Thomas who is actually the same man from 'We Can't Stop', so those comparisons check out!
  23. No problem, I bought one as well 🥰 also up to 4 formats with this alongside the vinyl, CD and cassette I got on release week! I received an email about that restocked lenticular vinyl (which I see is now sold out again!) but only saw this as I happened to be checking the store, they should definitely advertise it more
  24. Ooh the tour edition zine CD format is available on her U.K. store now! The vinyl with the lenticular cover has been restocked as well
  25. I wasn’t prepared for how chaotic this video was going to be
