Emma Raducanu has been beaten 6-4 6-3 by Russia's Anna Kalinskaya in the semi-finals of the Washington Open. The 22-year-old, whose run in the United States has ensured she will regain her British number one spot from Katie Boulter, served five aces early on, but could not convert any of her four break point opportunities. Kalinskaya, ranked two places below Raducanu at 48th in the world, capitalised with a break in the ninth game on her way to clinching the first set. The two exchanged early breaks in the second set before the 26-year-old Russian pulled ahead once more, taking a lead that proved decisive and breaking again to seal the win. "It was an interesting match. It's nice to play against Emma," said Kalinskaya, who is aiming to win her first WTA 500 title. "I'm proud of myself. I stayed aggressive and stuck to my plan." Kalinskaya will face Leylah Fernandez in Sunday's final after the Canadian edged out third seed Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in an epic encounter that included three tie-breaks.

England will "wait and see" whether captain Ben Stokes is fit enough to bowl when they push for victory over India on the final day of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, says assistant coach Marcus Trescothick. After taking five wickets in the first innings, Stokes did not bowl as India dug in to reach 174-2 at the end of day four, still 137 runs behind. Trescothick said that was because Stokes, who has been dogged by injury issues in recent years and had to retire hurt while batting with cramp on day three, was "a bit stiff and sore". "We are still hopeful he will be better tomorrow and come back out, be a bit looser and ready to go again," Trescothick told BBC Test Match Special.

Ireland won the first of two women's one-day internationals against Zimbabwe by 97 runs at Stormont on Saturday. The hosts completed a sweep of the T20 series between the nations earlier in the week and picked up where they left off in the 50-over format. It was a day to remember for Amy Hunter as the 19-year-old's 43 runs saw her pass the 1,000 mark in one-day cricket, having previously reached that milestone in the T20 format.

French favourite Calandagan came from behind to pass Kalpana and win the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. Calandagan, ridden by Mickael Barzalona, provided trainer Francis-Henri Graffard with his second successive triumph after Goliath last year. The 11-10 favourite's attitude was questioned after he lost out in a tight finish to Jan Brueghel in the Coronation Cup at Epsom last month but there was no doubting his resolution this time. "I'm so pleased for this horse," said Graffard after Calandagan, running in the green and red colours of the Aga Khan, won by a length. Jan Brueghel, trained by Aidan O'Brien, made the running at a steady pace before eventual runner-up Kalpana hit the front going to the final furlong. Rebel's Romance, who was boxed in on the rail, finished third in the five-runner race.
