    Crystal Palace have made their first summer signing with the arrival of Morocco centre-back Chadi Riad, in a deal worth £12m plus £2m in add-ons.

     

    The 20-year-old, who moved to Real Betis on loan from Barcelona last summer before making the move permanent, has joined the Eagles, external on a contract until June 2029.

     

    Riad made 30 appearances for Betis in all competitions during the past campaign and helped them finish seventh in La Liga.

    Emma Raducanu continued her Wimbledon preparations by cruising into the quarter-finals of the Nottingham Open with a straight-set win over Ukraine's Daria Snigur.

     

    Raducanu - playing only her second match since April after deciding to skip the French Open to focus on her fitness - made light work of the world number 127 to win 6-2 6-2.

     

    She will face compatriot Fran Jones or American Ashlyn Krueger in the last eight.

     

    In the men's Challenger event, Cameron Norrie suffered a shock 1-6 6-4 6-4 loss to world number 773 Jack Pinnington Jones.

    Afghanistan are through to the T20 World Cup Super 8s after beating Papua New Guinea by seven wickets in Trinidad, eliminating New Zealand in the process.

     

    After bowling out Papua New Guinea for 95, Afghanistan were made to work early in the chase but Gulbadin Naib's unbeaten 49 got them over the line.

     

    Gulbadin was the only batter to really find any rhythm on a tricky surface at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, hitting four fours and two sixes in his 36-ball knock.

    Chelsea have been given permission to discuss personal terms with Aston Villa's Jhon Duran, according to The Telegraph.

     

    The Blues are on the lookout for a striker this summer - and a deal for Duran to go to Stamford Bridge could open the door to a Chelsea player going the other way.

     

    The Telegraph report that on top of Conor Gallagher being a target, Villa have enquired about Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen, who spent the season on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

     

    Maatsen has a £35m release clause in his deal, the report says, which Dortmund are unwilling to pay. That has opened the door to Villa to swoop in.

    I believe this is the second time Scotland have played in the first match of a major tournament, 1998 World Cup against Brazil and now Euro 2024 against Germany?
