Jersey look set to have to go through an extra round of qualifying if they are to reach the 2028 T20 World Cup. The International Cricket Council are planning to introduce a Global Qualifier to follow their regional qualifying tournaments. Jersey won Sub Regional Europe Qualifier A in May, taking them through to what was set to be the final round of European qualifying next summer alongside Italy, Scotland, the Netherlands, Denmark and one other side. But under the new plans, sides which reached the last T20 World Cup but did not earn automatic qualification for 2028 will play in the Global Qualifier. Last year Jersey missed out on a place at the 2026 tournament on net run rate, having beaten Scotland to finish third behind Italy and the Netherlands. The change means Jersey will now face Scotland, Denmark and one other side, with the top two teams progressing to the Global Qualifier.

The 2027 ODI World Cup, to be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, will be a 14-team event but will include a Super Series round before the group stages, and a new Super 7 before the semi-finals. The new structure, announced by the ICC on Wednesday following the body's Annual Conference in Edinburgh over the weekend, was introduced, the ICC said, to "enhance consequence" in the early stages. Teams qualifying 12th to 14th will play the Super Series round. One team from the three will progress to the Group round, becoming one of 12 teams split across two groups. The top three from each group along with the next-best-ranked team across both groups will then qualify for the Super 7, from which the top four go through to the semis.

Wrexham have agreed a £7.2m deal to sign Fiorentina centre-back Matias Moreno. The 22-year-old Argentine is now discussing personal terms with the Welsh club. Fiorentina have inserted a 50 per cent sell-on clause into the deal if it goes through.
