  1. Austin Reaves scored a career high 35 points as the Los Angeles Lakers rekindled their play-off push with a 111-105 win over the Orlando Magic.

D'Angelo Russell scored 18 and Anthony Davis added 15 points to end the Lakers' two-game losing streak.

Reaves, 24, was met with chants for 'MVP' (most valuable player) from the crowd at the Crypto.com Arena.

"I play with a sense of urgency, leave it all out on the floor, that's how basketball should be played," he said.

Talking about the crowd chants, Reaves added: "For them to recognize what I do - obviously not an MVP-caliber player, those guys are really good - but for them to do that for me is special, it means a lot to me."

  2. Cheltenham Gold Cup and dual King George VI Chase winner Kicking King has died at the age of 25.

The Irish National Stud announced the death of the immensely popular chaser on Twitter on Tuesday, calling him “a legend in every sense of the word”.

Trained by Tom Taaffe for owner Conor Clarkson, he won 12 of his 28 starts, placing on another 11 occasions.

His last win came in the 2005 King George at Sandown, where he held on bravely by a neck from Monkerhostin under Barry Geraghty, and he was not seen on the track for another 759 days due to a tendon injury.

However, he was unable to get his head back in front in a further five starts, finishing his career in 2008 after finishing a well-beaten second to War Of Attrition at Punchestown.

  3. Thing is, he'll keep them up and the appointment will be viewed as a success, they only need 3 maybe 4 wins. But what about next season? No long-term thinking at all...

Next season I can see being a struggle for Palace. They'll probably go down.

  7. Former England manager Roy Hodgson has been reappointed as Crystal Palace boss until the end of the season.

Patrick Vieira, who replaced Hodgson at Selhurst Park in July 2021, was sacked by Palace on Friday after a 12-match winless run in all competitions.

Hodgson, 75, managed Watford from January to May 2022, leaving after they were relegated to the Championship.

I see Crystal Palace are turned to the classic 'get out of jail' free card with Roy Hodgson like some clubs have done with Big Sam and Harry Redknapp.

  13. Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford, Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount and Newcastle keeper Nick Pope have withdrawn from the England squad for next week's Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Rashford picked up a knock during his side's FA Cup quarter-final win against Fulham on Sunday.

Pope, who has 10 caps, suffered an injury in Newcastle's 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest on Friday.

Mount is also recovering from an injury and will stay with Chelsea.

Tottenham's Fraser Forster, 35, has been called up to replace Pope but no other replacements are planned by manager Gareth Southgate.
