Palhinha makes a Premier League return, one year after he joined Bayern from Fulham for a fee worth up to £47.4m. The 30-year-old midfielder has three years remaining on his current Bayern contract.

Sturm Graz have rejected a second bid of £1.6m from Derby County for right-back Max Johnston. Sky Sports News revealed last week that Derby’s opening bid of £1.4m was knocked back by the Austrian champions - and it’s understood an improved bid of £1.6m has been turned down this weekend. Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr have failed in an attempt to sign Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes. Contact was made through intermediaries, but there was no formal approach to Man Utd. Fernandes rejected the chance to join Saudi Pro League rivals Al Hilal earlier this summer.

Chelsea have completed the signing of teenage defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax. The Blues will pay an initial fee of £35.5m plus add-ons for the 19-year-old, who has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Groundbreaking rider Sibylle Vogt has been banned for six months by France Galop stewards after testing positive for metabolites of cocaine at Compiegne in March, although she mounted a similar defence to that which gained partial success in other high-profile cases. The Swiss-born Vogt is based in Germany with Peter Schiergen and became the first woman to win a major European Classic on Novemba in the 2021 German 1,000 Guineas. Vogt already had an international profile thanks to her victory in the Saudi Cup jockeys challenge the previous February, and has won ten Group races in Germany. Vogt accepted the adverse sample findings but pleaded for a more lenient sentence than the standard six months for a first offence, arguing that she had not taken or knowingly come into contact with cocaine, but believed she had suffered contamination through a sexual partner.
