  1. The expose on foreign money in our politics doesn't stop feat, from what I've watched, potentially serious breaches of election law~ edit: full version from undercover group Verbatim media, C4 have verified it and used an edited version:
  2. Zack Polanski gearing up to run for Holborn & St Pancras. Labour look likely to select Sagal Abdi-Wali, Somalian-born and leader of Camden Borough Council. If so, a good choice to combat the Greens but we will see. Expecting the reporting of this one to confuse the commentariat. It's a constituency that probably more people than average in the UK have actually visited. I've been there, of course, as it has a large part of Central London in it and I don't think that's true of many other by-election seats. Point is, a busy campaign will be very noticeable and much of the public will have personal experience of what the area is like. It's also one of the few completely left-wing seats in the UK, strong Labour, no real sign necessarily that Starmer had a personal vote that was more centrist, Reform and the Conservatives under 15% combined on the last election. Andrew Feinstein, the independent last time, is not running, so a large part of his vote is likely Green. Will be very interesting to see which narrative prevails, Labour probably start ahead, but if you're a student or minority voter in Holborn who isn't yet convinced that Burnham will be meaningfully different from Starmer, a great opportunity to vote to get the Green Party Leader in Parliament if Polanski is indeed on the ballot.

I am encouraged that right-wing shite of 'net stupid zero' is becoming more and more laughably out of touch, and that governments are pivoting towards solutions needed, be that renewable energy, public transport, EV adoption, recycling, whatever - and for all people moan about 'doesn't matter what we do, the big polluters are China and India', at least the former of those has made huge strides in the past decade. Of course it would have all been better had this been done earlier but the move towards a more sustainable future is becoming more and more popular and/or necessary, so I have hope that we'll see positive moves in what needs to be done. Possibly the big ones now are sustainable farming, adoption of alternatives to meat, and removal of fossil fuels from all forms of energy (read into that data centre story and it is because they don't have the electric grid so are planning to use gas-fired stations to start), but all that's the really tough part. Getting ourselves away from the use of plastics will be a big long-term one also. Long said the news coverage of climactic disasters should be borderline apocalyptic and alarmist and thankfully the coverage of both the Nepal floods and the 2026-27 super El Niño are getting a bit more towards that, but all this, and heatwaves and bad crop harvests is very much baked in, very little that can be done except weather them. We won't see super dramatic changes (like the AMOC collapsing) either within our lifetimes, it'll be just more boiling frog stuff - that is to say it'll still collapse in a century or so but not to the point where anyone notices the point it stops working. It's a very dangerous future and there'll be bad times ahead, up to and including potential collapse of society in some of the poorer and hotter states of the world. It's also why caring about immigration is such a nonsense, to fix the eventual waves of people fleeing climate struck countries you need to not help perpetuate a climate crisis and instead help other states weather such a thing, but of course anyone who cares deeply about immigration is deep in the culture wars and would never countenance helping the other even if it would directly help them in the future.
  4. 12 hours left to enter! Up to 56 provisionally confirmed now, so hopefully a few more than that this afternoon and evening x
  5. Little clarification, I said 'troll', not 'troll entry'. If it was an original troll entry I wouldn't have said anything and left it to the mod team. It's more in the vein of 'blindingly obvious veto' but with the further baffling decision to obfuscate it with an altered artist and song title name, which tries little more than our patience, and I only say this because I'm sure the mods will feel the same way.
  6. *Séyetana
  7. That said, do not take that Beaverdonia entry as actually happening as they have submitted a troll and will not receive the light of heaven.
  8. You're all good, I just hadn't updated it since Monday. Up to 53 now.
  9. I've listened to all the entries and can confirm that everyone has sent pop and your song will disappear into the maelstrom of the most pure pop yass queen slay tunes/everyone else has sent pop and is not in the mood for whatever avantgarde Moroccan indie breakbeat offering you have chosen (run with whichever circumstance makes you more worried)
  10. 45 countries as of Monday morning, excellent stuff. Love to see that we have not only my fellow 37 debutant Daehun returning, but also another of the 37 debutants, welcome back Ramrynia! East Rukahavian entry pending of course. Nearly 4 more full days to get your entry in if you haven't already!
  11. That previous time was my first full contest to host (for those not around wondering how I hosted, I finished 3rd the contest before after Jake/FARC won twice in a row, they declined to host the second time, and 2nd in 135 was leww/Aeroche who of course has hosted many wonderful contests over the years). Though I have also hosted a few spinoffs and I'd stepped in to help with a stage or two a couple of times before. I had a LOT more time then (was on my summer holidays while working as an ESL teacher) but I hope to give you all a clean, professional hosting job nevertheless this time around.
  12. Great start to this - 'Skyscraper' is perhaps the most generic and inoffensive (and thereby by the rules of quality, the most offensive) X-Factor single, just utter uninspired dreck by someone whose victory was more indicative of X-Factor fully morphing into a pointless 'who has the best story' show rather than an avenue for musical talent, not that it had ever been too far from the former. Would have chucked out 'One Way Or Another', 'Let's Get Ready To Rhumble' and 'Talk Dirty' very early - not much to say about any of them besides that except that 'Talk Dirty''s instrumental would be better served on another song that didn't feel so creepy, with the right backdrop it could be okay on some novelty dance hit or something. Perhaps it is a novelty dance hit, just a very bad one because of HIM. In complete agreement with you on 'Blurred Lines', I probably would have done something similar as it's very hard to rank - the plagiarism case was a complete nothing although it's at least helped kill off any long tail of popularity such a big seller might otherwise have, the song itself is very catchy and well made in a musical sense and I initially enjoyed it but unfortunately it's saddled with some of the most evil lyrics to ever appear in an incredibly popular song. definitely feel like I remember that marriage incident happening but can't recall the artist - my rule with online quizzes is I don't look things up and ruin it for myself, nice little addendum to this ranking.
  13. 2021, contest 136. Was a good time.
  14. Click that picture hyperlink down below to enter, but give the rules the once-over first: Rules To enter you must have an eligible BJSC country, such as Séyetana or our graphic lead Neliönoir. Most reading this are like this, but if you are new and wish to join in, please sign up in this thread. All eligible BJSC countries may enter, except for Baleghde, Kylienips, Numayania and Wholune. They failed to submit votes last month. That is a ban this time around. Be certain prior to entering your song that it does not fall foul of the Veto Framework. The mods are watching, and they will judge your fate using their discretion. If you have erred, Séyetana will find you. To source a replacement entry. Obviously. Ensure that your song has not been submitted previously to a contest in the main BJSC forum. Check the list at this link. Songs previously submitted to spinoffs will be disallowed, while songs from other contests elsewhere on the forum will also usually be disallowed, so especially if it's an older song, run a search forum-wide. As the previous winners, Séyetana will autoqualify. If there are an even number of entrants and Bøtanikkä enter, they will also autoqualify. The deadline for confirming will be Thursday 3rd September 23:59. The plan is for semis the following day. If for any reason this deadline is extended or late entrants accepted, at Séyetana and mod discretion, then songs released after this time will always be barred from this contest. Confirm if you dare! Confirmed countries (64): Neliönoir Séyetana Cor Lupus Sovarasma Dalisska Bøtanikkä Jadakissnia Deandria Daehun Taahino Bronzil Zephyra Continuum Danæviia New Lexico FSR Rontvia Elëdan Yehesi Cheiron Ennea Altyr Muunilinst Herbilore Flynnonda Vaskla POPHub Dobago Land of DW Persephonia Zanmatony Thelonia Greenfroze N DNTN Ajanaeda A-Konohagakure Ojnoj Pagasa Juranabaijan Lookylion Mothertopia Mulgracia The Spodic Empire Aeroche Jupiterdonia Terra Avium Ramrynia Aesthetica Kluminican Republic New Helvetica Lentyll Ben's Sanctuary Skall Scotland 2 Hendinia Beaverdonia Pestolia Lotunia FARC Harmonica Freidland République d'Áskorza Kathaldazia East Rukahavian Fljótavík Aelandor Trifoski
  15. keep an eye out this evening perhaps
  16. I unusually think I have found an excellent entry to enter for an autoqualifier - and one that I hope can beat the last couple of times I had an autoqualifier. also when @Jacob- enters we will have it confirmed that both Séyetana and Aelandor's 100th entry will be in contests I host which is a somewhat unbelievable little coincidence. much love to blacksquare who made me a very generous offer that I am taking up and I am in awe of their ability to get the things I envisioned for this theme brought to life which is, to answer Cow's wonderings earlier, specifically something completely different from 136!
  17. coming soon! a new contest of contrasts to delight and shock the sensibilities of the audience! prepare your best efforts of all musical genres for an appointment starting within the next 48 hours! ⬜⬛graphics by neliönoir⬛⬜
  18. Mack to win in the next 18 contests so I keep the record of most entries before a first win of course x I did feel it was a pretty unfavourable semi for my song (though in this case because semi 1 was filled with its fans!) to good to see that confirmed by stats also and we love to see that YTD increase.
  19. Also like of my votes, quite a few of them were in the top 10 or near, really glad these were hits for FSR Rontvia, FARC, Lentyll, Bronzil, Fljótavík. Molly in the club was a really great grower too.
  20. seriously, thank you everyone so much! I never thought when I entered this song that it’d be anywhere near contending but as the contest unfolded and all the hype seemed to be coming from everywhere (with especial thank you to blacksquare as well as everyone else who stanned it enough to keep mentioning it), I was trying not to allow myself to believe that it would happen lmao very glad to win and it’s not even that it took 15 years to do it lol but it’s just a real excellent feeling seeing those points roll in all in support of this amazing tune Portraits of Tracy created thank you harve for some brilliant hosting, I am technically away right now but I will look very much forward to inviting you all to Séyetana next month
  21. Holy…
  22. we might be?
  23. all according to plan ^ me talking shit, idk what will happen at all
  24. here to finish at least last or something I haven’t looked at the forum since the semi final results (whatever happens tonight I’ll be happy with)
  25. Voted. Very tough final to rank.
