  1. I'm off on holiday for a few days but I will be on the look out for a rock song during that time, can't miss a Nuggets x
  2. pop hoes and other naysayers have been activated, wouldn't want it any other way I can only suggest listening to 'Caught In A Jam' more to understand the hype and see how catchy it is and give it your votes like I said in the listenthrough, Botanikka has a good chance of appealing to people and there may yet be others we don't know about but I am very excited to see what actually happens now aah
  3. Excellent top 2, I think I share it, and it's very close at the top so could be either way round but both are absolutely stupendous euphoric dance songs that I am very grateful were out when they were, nothing beat being out when those were on. Incredible vocals and instrumentals on both, I think the context surrounding 'Don't You Worry Child' gives it the edge for me these days but absolutely adore both. Thanks for the rundown RFC, great commentaries throughout and a good reminder of a great year. my ranking would be roughly like this: 01. Swedish House Mafia feat. John Martin – Don’t You Worry Child 02. David Guetta Feat. Sia - Titanium 03. Gotye Feat Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know 04. Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe 05. Coldplay - Paradise 06. Psy - Gangnam Style 07. Rihanna - Diamonds 08. Labrinth Featuring Emeli Sande - Beneath Your Beautiful 09. Sam and the Womp – Bom Bom 10. Cover Drive - Twilight 11. fun. feat. Janelle Monae – We Are Young 12. Florence + The Machine – Spectrum (Say My Name) (Calvin Harris Remix) 13. Rudimental feat. John Newman – Feel The Love 14. Gabrielle Aplin - The Power Of Love 15. Little Mix - Wings 16. Maroon 5;Wiz Khalifa - Payphone 17. Calvin Harris feat. Florence Welch – Sweet Nothing 18. DJ Fresh feat. Rita Ora – Hot Right Now 19. Flo Rida - Good Feeling 20. 4. I respectfully withdraw myself from being able to comment objectively about this race it definitely could just be a few very lovely fans being very vocal though!
  5. blacksquare and dandy unearthing my first thing in the morning playlists
  6. Quite. Practically, as such 'community work' takes away time from seeking more permanent work or other social and personal responsibilities these people have, they should be paid as if it were a job and should have the right to refuse if that would leave them financially worse off because of loss of benefits. Great that Reform is seeking to provide work for the unemployed, I'm glad it's not a cruel punishment for the people it views as beneath them under the guise of saving money.
  7. Three absolute essentials of 2012 there, I don't think I could imagine the year without especially 'Call Me Maybe' and 'Somebody That I Used To Know', both excellent examples of pop and indie respectively, both always sounding fresh and interesting and really masterful on both vocals and production, I mean many songs felt big but those were on another level. 'Paradise' is kind of an expression of Coldplay at their best for me, that epic build to something that's built with getting the stadium to feel fantastic towards the end of a show and that's one I remember following for a long time with the charts hoping that it'd finally manage to sneak a week at #1, I recall that being ineligible brief debacle made me support it even more (seeing the wonderful 'Every Teardrop' have an only okay chart run made me wonder if their chart relevance was done at the time). I was fairly on board this era but it definitely shone in the singles.
  8. Portraits Of Tracy - Caught In A Jam (with thanks to FKA Twigs and blacksquare) 'Caught In A Jam' is the lead single from Portraits Of Tracy's new EP Q: From Where Do Our Primal Instincts Originate? A: MTV! - including, among other things, a punk song entitled 'This Song May Or May Not Be About An Alt-Right Influencer' (lol). Whole EP's a good and sometimes intense listen, I recommend it. What genre is 'Caught In A Jam'? Idk (alt-pop or smth) but that's not really as important as the fact that it is super catchy and addictive and sounds like so many good things throughout its runtime. vote 'Caught In A Jam' in the final if you like it x
  9. Enjoyed South Arcade's performing at Reading last year and this was a lovely one from them, thank you for sending it! Sad to lose Juranabaijan, Pestolia, Aelandor, Persephonia, Ennea at least from the other semi, Ben's Sanctuary was 11th for me and Ajanaeda with Metric was 13th (good album if not their best) too. Thank you very much for getting me through everyone, I am loving the hype for Portraits Of Tracy so far <3
  10. REF 22,239 BIN 9,455 Farage did not attend the count, first citing a desire to avoid being 'humiliated by nobodies', but later claiming Essex Police had told him there was a threat and advised him not to attend, something the Police have stepped in to expressly deny. pathetic to the last
  11. that's going in my national thread stanning
  12. oh (tiny sample size but tbh this probably underrates the boomer nonsense over there if anything)
  13. Beach holiday to the cheap Bulgarian destination of Burgas next May hmm (no) Gives off a different vibe to other recent host cities and they may be forced to make the on-site thing smaller which is a good thing, too much oneupmanship in many of the recent contests.
  14. Polls open in Clacton to cap off the silly summer season
  15. If it is streaming on Discord, you just have to be in a voice channel (it would be expected everyone in there is muted), and then while in it there is an option for anyone to share your screen, so I think what's been done before is sharing someone's screen playing the Youtube playlist. (there is an integration with Spotify that works slightly differently but I think everyone using it needs Premium so boo monopoly)
  16. Unless I'm forgetting something I think I have two: UP XXV with Inouwee - Danger in 2017 BJSC Worldvision V with Fat Frumos - Chip Chip in 2020
  17. 'Gangnam Style' and 'Bom Bom' were fantastic chaotic fixations of my first year at uni and I still love them, always sounded brilliant on the dancefloor. Particularly liked how Gangnam Style gave the mainstream charts an awareness of East Asian music, at least one song, though its uniqueness and eyecatching video was certainly a selling point. Nothing like it. 'Hot Right Now', about the same as 'Louder', fine floorfillers but didn't really catch my ear too much. Great start to your top 10 though, I think 'Beneath Your Beautiful' is possibly the most interesting track Emeli Sandé ever did, mainly because her vocal was contrasting against Labrinth's, and it was a good turn for him to do too, obviously 'Earthquake' is undeniable for that sort of song, but BYB is a really great mainstream pop duet, builds well. kinda more into the album version of 'Spectrum', one of my favourites on Ceremonials but that would never make it to the dancefloor and Calvin Harris' version is great for that purpose.
  18. I’m sure this applies more to the proverbial repetitive unchanging dance beats than a song that changes, though either way there’s not all that many songs where if someone didn’t like its first part that they’d be convinced by the parts that start 7+ minutes in
  19. ‘Diamonds’ is my big favourite of the recent songs but strangely I’m not quite sure why, I just sorta vibe with its sound, it could have not existed and I’d be just fine with it. ‘Call My Name’ and ‘Part Of Me’ are similarly inessential and I suspect it’s my Rihanna bias. Never really thought ‘Part Of Me’ escaped the demo feeling tbh very fun Glastonbury anecdote, I can barely imagine Corbyn and Perry in the same sentence lol
  20. A song being judged by its length is a little odd, there's so many different types of what that looks like, techno adventures, rock epics, contemplative sounds, dramatic finishes to an album, experiments, steady unchanging electronic beats etc It's quite a cool and diverse type of entry to stake your support behind and the intense feelings such a listen gives you is why they often attract high points - though a lot of the time I don't indulge because such songs are often the deep cuts, the rewards for going so deep into an artist's discography while BJSC by its very nature promotes a shallower sampling of a lot of different artists (not necessarily a bad thing!) since that you're never really voting for more than a third of a field, I don't think I would judge anyone who knows that after they've listened to a good proportion of the song and had an idea of what it's trying to do that it isn't for them simply not spending the time with the rest of if its length was excessive, the artists that record these long songs tend to make them for their biggest fans anyway.
  21. decided to do a little validation of the values in the Google Sheet for posterity's sake and indeed the poster higher up in the sheet got there first, their request reached Google's servers 132 milliseconds before the second one.

There's often a couple of 'definitely not alternative' artists on the list; and the winner hasn't often gone to the most commercial looking artists anyway. Would have hoped for Gorillaz but with their history with the award wouldn't have expected them there.
  23. 'Twilight' was also the song I was expecting to appear a fair bit lower and defend; for me it'd be in the top... maybe not 5 because I think there are at least 5 number ones this year that are undeniably better than it but top 10. Very happy with that placement for it as I expect few people would have it so high given how forgotten it was. Also enjoyed 'Sparks' and a couple of other tracks off their album as well (though 'Lick Ya Down' is indeed terrible and after such a bad first impression it's a wonder that I latched onto them at all), I think I must have been one of a very few who actually bought that. Definitely also had Amanda in my signature at some point during 2012. Main reason I got into Cover Drive was at this point my pop instincts were still very much following Rihanna, Alexis Jordan, that kinda pop-RnB-lite thing and the Caribbean sound helped, 'Twilight' especially has a few really good instrumental flourishes that hold up well today, the best of theirs, though that beach bar description is very apt, probably what it was for most. A number one I'm glad... somehow... got to the top spot and one I still have a big soft spot for these days, still surprises me it ever managed it though. The rest to appear lately are very much... don't mind, that's not a bad charity single from Justice Collective and a worthy cause but as you say there is a limit to how good these kind of things can be to listen to for entertainment purposes.
  24. Congratulations Harve, it's always a rare treat to have your 18 winning but though I kinda called it, amazing to see it happening with 7 others alongside me giving it the top marks and enough to win comfortably; utterly beautiful track and will go down as an excellent winner, long overdue after loving 'Pyrrhic' for years and of course Skall have had a few close calls that I wish had won over the years so great to see this one break through. Thanks for the great hosting all the way through Addy, unfortunate for me that I didn't do very well (undeserved, my song is still incredible) but I will aim to convince more people to pay attention to my song next contest x
