  6. HA I was convinced I was out THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU I am quite attached to this bop - voters thank you I think I only lost Aelandor from my votes - we never seem to make it to the same finals boo, but it was only like a... 3 pointer.
  7. oh man I don't like this
  8. Eh, see my instincts say Botanikka, Cumulonimbia, Nelionoir, SΓ©yetana (me), Zanmatony and Aelandor in rough order of surety, but I think Sandenia definitely has potential to sneak in against one of those. Or a couple of the others could.
  9. oof I did not expect Hushkanukia last at all. Herbilore I thought might be borderline too.
  10. good to see Rontvia through now let's get the other metal entries through xx
  11. I think it's a good article - the charts are no longer interesting to many people and this is not entirely for the better - and it's not laying this at anyone's feet, just a statement on how the different methods of music consumption make it really impossible to have a chart that both reflects the accurate consumption of people listening or buying music and the release schedule of new music at the point where it invites most commentary - eligible for award shows and part of the zeitgeist. It puts 'current music' more over towards award shows I think if the chart is reflecting less and less what most people see as 'the music of the day'. And it will continue to do that while the chart's movement remains uninteresting.
  12. It makes it harder for the party in the long run if its left is not being given sufficient assurances that in the long run important subjects like this will be tackled. So far I'm hearing that it may possibly be in the next budget but that was clearly not enough for this group to abstain and instead vote against a King's Speech, something they surely knew would lead to this. I'm honestly genuinely surprised that the main part of the party couldn't negotiate with these 7 to say 'look, the cap is clearly being removed as soon as it seems economically possible and there's close to zero chance it makes it to the end of this parliament, vote with us on our government programme and we can bring it in later'. To not be able to do that seems a failure.
  13. Seven Labour MPs have been suspended from the Labour party for 'a period of time' (not permanent) for voting for an SNP motion to scrap the two-child benefit cap. It's exactly who you think it is, McDonnell, Sultana, Burgon, Begum, Long Bailey and Imran Hussain and Ian Byrne, all people I'd far rather see in the governing party than out of it and definitely voting with their morals (country before party anyone?) rather than because they were told to. Definitely keeping up the media furore to get this cap specifically eventually removed.
  14. Yeah this and she can pick up Biden's warchest and claim succession from his primary campaign, which stops this feeling anti-democratic - everyone knew she was on the ticket already.
  15. Not blond enough for the sort of Republican woman president Last Dreamer is thinking of - his preferences coming from the same place as FOX News casting after all.

  17. The energy this gives to the Dem campaign should be a boost for them all around really, you could tell that even with people ready to vote against Trump that Biden talking about what he'd done wasn't going to play well. That's also how the popular vote helps, I'm not just talking about blue votes stacking up in California, actually California might see more rightward movement if still strongly Dem, but more that Dems have been often underestimated in polls the last few years due to undecideds breaking for them more than Trump and that the voting system obscures the fact that just more people in the country are happier voting Democrat and they outnumber Republicans everywhere makes it easier for those swing states to move towards them. A good VP pick should help Harris, almost certain she'll pick a white man - if she picks Josh Shapiro, then that could edge Pennsylvania over and I've just wargamed the states, and of course it still runs it close but in Michigan, Arizona and Nevada I get the instinct that changing Biden for Harris is neutral to positive for Dems, Shapiro pick could help PY, perhaps it is somewhat the other way in Wisconsin, NC and Georgia but those were the swing states I was thinking would be going Republican anyway. But then the race has only just begun again now, and the RNC just wasted ALL of their convention time tearing down Biden, hopefully this means some movement will be shown in a positive fashion from now.
  18. We'll see what the polls say once this news settles in but most of the Harris-Trump comparisons that had been done before now were more positive than Biden-Trump ones anyway for how well this will go.
  19. Many, many times. She's the liberal fantasy candidate and it will never happen. In many areas to the median voter Harris and Obama as a presidential candidate would be similar though. Michelle's a good speaker but so much of candidate quality in how they reach different parts of America is based on identity, and Kamala's got a lot more experience in working within government and as a prosecutor, so a lot more qualified.
  20. @1815087772216303933 Biden's endorsing Harris then, panic over. Good timeline.
  21. Not so much a set up, nobody in politics thinks that far ahead - but likely served its purpose as an early warning system in case of this exact situation. Before 3 weeks ago every Democrat was fully expecting and hoping for a reelection campaign and nomination. I reckon this puts the race firmly with a Democratic advantage, remember they have the advantage in popular vote and Trump's known quantity as a candidate continues to play against him the more he shows up, the main reason we were worried about Biden was he appeared far more senile and out of it than Trump, 'only candidates who could lose to each other etc'. Very likely it's Harris, I've been impressed with what she's been putting out and keeping message discipline tight, on debates I really don't know how Trump can come at her, and I don't feel that Biden's disapproval ratings really carry over to her, she's got a whole different feel about her as a candidate, energetic compared to Biden's phlegmatism. And if it's not, Newsom, Whitmer, Shapiro all look like strong photogenic candidates who can now get a chance to shine - though an open convention would be something to avoid.
  22. Genuinely, thank the f***ing lord - even we knew this was coming for about a week it's a bit of a shock to know it's absolutely happening Now we just wait for Kamala's announcement and Operation Coconut Tree is a go go
  23. Biden's ended his re-election campaign. edit: @1815080881981190320
  24. One thing I don't like about the policy is that it's a regressive policy on top of an already regressive tax, in that Meekul is correct that the people who'll end up paying the price are the middle class stretching their means to send children to a better education rather than anyone who can really afford it - and indeed from knowing a few private schools on the lower end of such, they are panicking about that. Of course it's an exemption that should have been closed years ago, and as you've all indicated, state schools are in a far more dire state and greatly in need of funding to make it more equal with a much greater payoff for society in the long run - my line has been when discussing it that it's a step towards making state schools an education fit for everyone, including both those whose families could never afford private school and those whose families are currently sacrificing nearly everything they have to ensure their kids have a good education.
  25. Visions Of Atlantis - Tonight I'm Alive a7NqrMQ6-KQ Austrian Nightwish Visions Of Atlantis have gone down a very piratical route in the last couple of years, with this new album literally called Pirates II, which is fantastic for me as pirate metal is my jam. The whole album is worth recommending, but Tonight I'm Alive in particular is a HUGE party track with singer Clementine going all out, it was very instant for me so I hope you all enjoy.
