Very impressive stage show, Austria's song is still a bit oversingy for me though, though it does have some very exciting bits. Do feel that's going into the final as a favourite though

This is a much more unpredictable semi. Worried for Latvia, they've been looking borderline. Australia and Lithuania, my other big favourites here, are probably in but they're not nailed on. Will probably be very nervous tonight for those 3. With the other semi rewarding non-English songs, that looks good for Latvia, Serbia and even Montenegro (big question mark?) but maybe the Anglosphere nations all voting here will make that not such a phenomenon.

Pretty much. The divide seems to be if you like songs from musicals or not (as I guess it's... slightly more West End musical than most pop songs, not hugely so though IMO), and I love musicals. Fairly certain my assessment of it as one of (if not the) best UK entries will last after the contest, it did with Electro Velvet and that was inferior to this - also ragged on for being an unconventional pop-adjacent entry. That said, a fairly open year like this where a song with this title wins would be pretty perfect narratively. In my dreams.

I can totally see people giving Israel points. Strictly song-wise, New Day Will Rise is an okay ballad with a positive message, it's far less a case of playing the victim the way Hurricane was painfully (while also being a much worse song) and more along the lines of mid-2010s Russian cynical peace ballads. Yuval also seems far less antagonistic as an entrant than Eden. so like, coming out of the depths of last year.
