ACR Status Update: 16th September 2021
lol this comment has already aged like milk, "peaks at #8 on AM" apparently, even though it's currently #7 there lol

I highly doubt it lol, even Bad Habits only did 26k pure sales (not sure how many of those came from the physical). Luckily, though, he should only need around 50,000 total chart sales to secure the #1 this week.

Lets not forget that Shivers also has a signed CD single that will be sure to boost sales lol

That seems like a rather muted debut, no? I know it's only halfway through the day, but I seem to remember Bad Habits being like #9 on Apple Music by like late afternoon / early evening.

I assume you meant #3 combined for Bad Habits there?

Not sure where you got 20k from lol, just based on that number of 1.2m streams ahead on Spotify Drake would be ~8k chart sales ahead (assuming an average ratio of 150:1, though Drake may likely have had a higher proportion of free streams), and those 8k chart sales have clearly been mostly made up by Bad Habits' higher sales, Amazon, Deezer and YT figures.

Thank god for that :D Worst song I've heard all year easily imo lmao

Actually tho what is the likelihood of Bad Habits getting an 11th week do we think? I doubt it's going to be able to do bigger weekly Spotify numbers than Girls Want Girls even if Bad Habits ends up ahead every day for the rest of the week, just because of Drake's massive first day streams. But do we think that, if Bad Habits is able to climb back ahead of Drake on Spotify and Apple Music in the next day or 2, it's higher sales and Amazon Music, Deezer, etc figures will be enough for an 11th week?

The new Spotify chart with the huge dropoff for Drake on his 2nd day has given me hope once more that the dream of Ed's 26 week domination is not truly over yet :D

Next week number 1
Based on the Apple Music charts I am fully expecting Drake to be #1. He's literally got the entire Top 10, it would take a drop off of unheard proportions for Ed to be back at #1 within the next few days for him to take the #1 for the week as a whole

It's up by 45% over this point last week on Spotify, and you need a 25% increase for an auto-reset, so Heat Waves should get reset

Album Chart Battle: Drake vs. Iron Maiden
Personally I'm expecting '=' to do around 200k - 300k first week with 40k - 50k from streaming, so better in total than the 125k opening week sales of No.6 but with roughly comparable streaming figures to the 50k it managed, but well behind '÷' with its 672k total sales, 79k from streaming

Yeah, probably won't make a difference to the #1 spot either way now that Jail is back down below Bad Habits even when combined on Spotify, and I imagine it will continue falling from now on. Hurricane will probably pose a bigger threat to the #1 spot next week than Jail will tbh
-
Spotify & Apple Music Chart Discussion
I have no idea either, but since Jail was combined on Spotify for the first few days of its existence I took a guess that it would end up being combined on OCC. Could be entirely wrong though.

I could see that system working tbh, a song would need to be in an artists Top 3 songs of the week to enter the chart, but if, in later weeks, it ends up dropping out of an artist's Top 3, it should still be allowed to chart along with the artist's other songs
-
Spotify & Apple Music Chart Discussion
Hmmm it'd probably be better than the current system but personally I don't think there should be any manipulation of the figures. I think it should be 100:1 for paid streams and 600:1 for free streams (and 1:1 for actual sales of course) and then that's it, and wherever songs land is where they land, regardless of how old they are, how long they've been on the chart, or how many other songs the artist has on the chart.

Spotify & Apple Music Chart Discussion
But if you just choose a few lead singles and then you're done with it, what about singles that get promoted after the album release (Save Your Tears, for example)? What about songs that aren't singles but immediately resonate with fans and become a standout hit from the album on release (Galway Girl, for example, didn't become a single until a week after the album release, and was chosen as a single because it was the standout hit)? What about songs that become a standout hit but never become official singles (favorite crime, for example)? I don't think we should try to cling to the past and alter the rules of the chart to prevent something from happening today just because it wasn't possible in the past. Streaming is the way that people listen to music now, and streaming allows for these incredibly impressive album bombs on occasion, and we should embrace that, not reject it. They only happen occasionally and almost always clear up after a couple weeks at most anyway. If anything the bigger problem is the way all of the same xmas songs clog up the chart for a month every single year (not saying that the rules should be changed to ban that, just saying that it's inconsistent to ban album bombs even though xmas bombs are arguably the bigger problem when it comes to "clogging up" the chart).

Kanye should be allowed an album bomb imo. I don't like his music (or personality) at all, but if he has 27 of the 100 most popular tracks of the week then he should have 27 entries in the OCC Top 100 for the week. The chart is simply meant to be an accurate representation of the most popular tracks of the week and the 3 song rule and ACR prevent it from doing its job properly imo
