vinyl
You must! :D I am moving premises soon actually, into the Royal Arcade in Boscombe.. next to the Post Office and opposite Cafe Nero! I will have a LOT more stock, having just bought a job lot of 2000 LP's/45's, and will also be doing CD's :) It's a two-story unit so my brother in law is running upstairs (new) and I'll be downstairs (vintage). Should be open in around 3 weeks!

Captain Beefheart
I would recommend Safe As Milk, it's his first album and is kind of more Delta blues influenced, but 'Electricity' is on there, which features a theremin, and there's a song called 'I'm Glad' which is a complete curveball, being as it is a stunningly affecting soul song. Dropout Boogie is a classic too

Ari Up of The Slits R.I.P.
Oh no :( I was just talking about her with my mate the other day, I had a Slits LP (Cut) which I sold in my record shop, and she was saying how I should have kept it back for her as she's a massive Slits fan. Devastating. R.I.P.

Must Be The Music | Series 1
Have been watching this and really enjoying it so far. Emma's Imagination was great tonight, and deservedly through to the final.

Die Antwoord - "Enter the Ninja"
My sister and her fiance showed me this a few weeks ago after they saw it on Starz, we all thought it was the biggest load of $h!t to trouble the airwaves since Crazy Frog. Hopefully it will flop horribly.

VINYL COLLECTIONS
Thank you mate :D I've only ever been to Barnstaple once and that was when I was very small, nice to know that there's a record shop there! Good to know that there are still a few HMV's left stocking new vinyls too, it's so hard to find new indie/alt-rock 7's  The nearest to me is Square Records in Wimbourne, which is a great little independent although unfortunately with very little vinyl!

VINYL COLLECTIONS
I do indeed know Twyford :D There used to be an amazing record shop in Wokingham actually when I was around 14/15 (1997/8) called RP Music but it closed down around 10 years ago, which was a $h!tter :( I used to vertially live in there, they sold vinyl and CD's but it was a little before my interest in vinyl started! Also, a bit before my time, but when my sister was growing up in the late 80's/early 90's there was a record shop next to Woolies in Wokingham called Mark One, it was really old-school and had listening posts and stuff. Oh if only these places were still there! Ah the Sound Machine is amazing yeah, does the same guy still run it? Asian/mixed race bloke? I used to spend a lot of time in there buying promo CD's as I used to review stuff for a mate's website. Do they still sell vinyl? Apparently there is a place in Reading up Oxford Road, past Broad Street Mall etc, that sells second hand vinyl and CD's too, although I never got around to looking for it  Fopp was always pretty good as well, and Virgin Megastore before it became Zavvi <_< Yeah making a decent amount of money is hard work, but I kind of work at it all the time - texting or e-mailing different contacts if I think I've got particular records they'd like, advertising and promoting etc.. I try and do everything, and buy in stock, as cheaply as possible though. I don't have any overheads as I just rent a basement off a mate who runs a vintage clothes shop and he takes care of the bills, plus the rent is very affordable (£35 a week, which I can sometimes make in a day). Once I move on to my own premises it'll be twice as much expenditure so I'm hoping to stick where I am until I save up enough for a shop of my own and build up my stock. It's definately more for me about the music than the money though, I just like the fact that I'm providing a service to people and keeping the vinyl flame burning :D

VINYL COLLECTIONS
It was always my dream job too, I'd wanted to do it for years and years, ever since I left school. Things only really started to happen for me when I moved 3 years ago though, I found Berkshire (Wokingham in particular) very frustrating in terms of opportunities. You should come work with me, you're only a couple of counties away :D The only bad side of running a record shop is that you get chancers coming in trying to sell you piles of utter crap for something ridiculous like a couple of hundred quid, when it's three dozen country & western compilations on budget labels <_<

Best Coast / Crazy for You
Like what I've heard so far, anything that's swaddled in lo-fi haze is always a winner with me. Plus anything with that 'Be My Baby' girl-group drum sound.

YES! You guys rock I run a record shop in Bournemouth so people like your fine selves are pretty much my reason for being :D I spend 4-5 days a week surrounded by vinyl, and can't imagine anything better. If any of you are ever in the Dorset vicinity, pop in and see me!

King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man
g8Yo3FJDrbc This track is f***ing awesome, I bought In The Court Of The Crimson King on vinyl recently, of which this is the first track on Side 1, and it's put me back onto prog again.. I know it can be kind of wanky and pretentious (*cough*Yes, Rick Wakeman etc*cough*) and rivals idm/electronica in the chin-stroking stakes but at it's best, with Crimson probably being one of the most universally loved prog-rock bands, it can be really rewarding to listen to.

EastEnders ·
The bit I found most surprising was when Denise and the others ran out of the house at the end and a crowd had gathered - nobody seemed at all surprised to see her considering they'd all not long been to her funeral

Mercury Prize 2010
Oh dear, a very safe and cosy list this year. I'm not bothered at all who wins, I predict The XX.

albums/singles - - - mid-year
I need to refamiliarise myself with modern indie stuff, I'm so out of touch :/ I run a record shop so I'm always surrounded by vinyl but not a lot of what I buy in is post 80's/90's  I would like to stock new vinyl releases eventually though. The best new thing I've heard all year is probably Memory Tapes, I've also liked Joy Orbison (a lot) and Fenech-Soler. And lots of one-off bits on Xfm/6 Music - Dinosaur Pile-Up, Dum Dum Girls etc.

Mary Queen Of Shops
Yeah I've been watching this, it's compulsive viewing! That DIY shop in the last episode is only 10 minutes from where my sister lives in Surrey, next time I talk to her I'll ask if she knows it. What did they reopen it as, The Fixit Factory?

The Animals - Club-A-Gogo
v0-7E4D38F8 I was just going through some 45's I purchased over the weekend at carboots, for anybody who didn't already know (me included) this B-side to Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood might sound a little familiar to those Girls Aloud fans out there..

Yvette Fielding quits 'Most Haunted'
David Wells was great, it's not really been quite the same since he left. I thought he was very sincere, and after the whole Derek hoo-hah it's kind of what they needed to silence the doubters. In recent years, with Brian Shepherd, Ian Shillitoe and then Chris Conway, it's just been ridiculous with the whole revolving door policy. If MH continues without Yvette, and I really hope it does, then they should get Johnnie Fiori in as medium, and Lesley should take over Yvette's role! And as sweet as Cath is, she doesn't really add anything to MH other than the ability to outscream Yvette, so a good shake-up/overhaul would definately benefit it.

BBC6music Lives!
This is fantastic news! :cheer: I was only listening last night to Guy Garvey's show, which is wonderful. It's the only station I bother to listen to these days, as there's so much $h!te polluting the airwaves everywhere else. It's like the last bastion of good taste. Long live 6 Music! \/

which movement?
I would have loved to have been around during the original summer of love, 1967. Or just the mid to late 60's in general, so many amazing homegrown bands and American imports such as The Byrds and The Lovin' Spoonful .. we were spoilt for choice! I feel sorry for kids growing up today who only get to hear Lady Gaga and bloody Glee. The 60's seemed such a fertile (in more ways than one!) time and the ripples created by The Beatles, The Stones, The Who etc have gone on to influence and inspire many.
