Love tv burp. On Gold a lot at the moment. Never realised there were so many episodes made of it. I have someone on my board called Harry Hill though it's not the real one, we are sure.

Alex's Favourites from UK Singles Chart (1970-2001)
x_tW3vU3RyQ Recording stars from Frank Sinatra to Dolly Parton have recorded the songs of Carole Bayer Sager. So also have Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Melissa Manchester, Christopher Cross, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, The Doobie Brothers, Gladys Knight, Roberta Flack, Johnny Mathis, Leo Sayer, Carly Simon, Bette Midler, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Patti LaBelle, El DeBarge, Bob Dylan, Kenny Rogers and even Carole herself. The petite lyricist constitutes one-half of one of the world's most successful songwriting teams, as she and husband, Burt Bacharach, have proven many times. During the past year, the couple have enjoyed two number one songs, "On My Own," recorded by Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald, and "That's What Friends Are For." Records of both songs went gold. "That's What Friends Are For," recorded by Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder, also raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the American Foundation for AIDS Research. "That's What Friends Are For"-nominated for Grammys for "Song of the Year" and "Record of the Year" in 1986-was the number one song of the year. And, "On My Own" was the second-biggest seller of 1986. She has been writing professionally for more than 20 years, and began when she was a student at New York City’s High School of Music and Art. She graduated from New York University where she focused on English, Dramatic Arts and Speech. Sager, with her husband, made their debut as a team, by winning an Oscar for Best Song for the 1981 "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)." Their songs for other films include "Making Love," three songs for the film, Night Shift, and the Roberta Flack-Peabo Bryson hit recording of "Romantic Comedy." Two other Sager songs, "Looking Through the Eyes of Love," (from Ice Castles) and "Nobody Does It Better," (from The Spy Who Loved Me) were also nominated for Oscars, and her songs have also received Grammy nominations. Sager's lyrics are also heard in the long-running play, They're Playing Our Song, (the result of a collaboration with Marvin Hamlisch and Neil Simon). A singer as well as a writer, Sager has had three self-penned albums. Her own hit singles have included "Stronger Than Before," and "You're Moving Out Today." In addition to Burt Bacharach, Sager's list of collaborators includes Neil Diamond, Melissa Manchester, Bette Midler, Peter Allen, Quincy Jones, Bruce Roberts, David Foster and Michael McDonald. Other hit titles in the Sager catalog include "Come in from the Rain," Don't Out Loud," “When I Need You," "Midnight Blue," "It's My Turn," "Everything Old Is New Again," “Break It to Me Gently," "Making Love," "Heartlight" and her very first hit, "A Groovy Kind of Love."

Keane : The Singles Rate
Aphrodite, that's interesting. Well, Apollo here, I quite like Keane but don't know enough to help you here with ratings. I thought the best song on H&F was We Might As Well Be Strangers and my favourite from UTIS is Hamburg Song. I lost touch with Keane after that album. I saw them on breakfast tv the other morning. They looked well.

Anyone like Tori Amos?
No 'Past The Mission'? Not keen on Anastasia myself... :o ??? Oh well... I agree with Never For Ever though, I'd probably rate it after HOL.

the smiths vs pet shop boys vs new order
How can it even be a question, there is a link between The Smiths and Electronic (Johnny Marr) but what else? PSB music is fine until Tennant opens his mouth etc

Anyone like Tori Amos?
Definitely! I wanted also to enhance the point made about "The Ninth Wave" which was a whole concept of it's own, "And Dream Of Sheep" is marvellous, really!

Anyone like Tori Amos?
You know, I found "Aeriel" a disappointment, IMO there are just one or two good songs on it, WHEREAS, I like absolutely everything on HOUNDS OF LOVE and rate it as a masterpiece, one of the finest albums ever! In Tori's case I'd say Pink and Boys and Scarlett's Walk are my faves although The Beekeeper is fine, just songs about orange knickers leave me a little skeptical, each to their own but on balance if it comes to discussing who made the better studio albums I'd vote Tori all day long.

Anyone like Tori Amos?
I find it amusing when people love to criticize things they can't grasp. I would agree "1,000 Oceans" is pretty direct and also a haunting ballad. Even true Tori fans will stand up and say there are many bad songs (especially many of the cover versions) but anyone who just takes a personal dislike to someone and so discredits their entire catalogue, oh AND uses the cheap "aimless" jibe isn't worth debating with.

Anyone like Tori Amos?
Why? They are two entirely different musicians whose voices happen to sound similar. I absolutely love both and am not worthy to decree who is better or otherwise. I have said Tori is the greatest but that's just a personal hunch. I still feel, for example, Hounds Of Love is my favourite album of Kate's and that it's still beautiful after all these years. I picked up on the "Aimless" jibe, I think that's a cheap shot, really. Tori has proven her worth even though I would agree a lot of her covers I do not like and wish she'd never bothered. @tonyttt31, I liked some of your choices, "Here In My Head" is likely my best Tori song, that time she did it on Jools Holland Later was very special, I love Sister Janet also, first time I heard that was on the CD Single along with Home On The Range (think it might have been Cornflake).

Football Discussion [old]
They've scored the most goals POSH and could even afford to miss two pens! Who needs Ashley Grimes eh? (self-sarcasm included).

Anyone like Tori Amos?
You gotta be kidding! Kate was great but Tori, well, she's just the greatest (IMO).

NAME THAT TUNE!!
That's just it... can't even remember the words though sure they say "make it happen" somewhere in it, also speeded up the piano thing on the link if it makes it any easier.

NAME THAT TUNE!!
Thanks! I hope JAMSHA or Theo will see the thread then, it's frustrating looking at numerous GA vids, also like you say it COULD be another artist and I really can't pick out any of the lyrics, even from the chorus.

NAME THAT TUNE!!
And we are quite sure it is by Girls Aloud now.
-
NAME THAT TUNE!!
Yeah but I don't think anyone else using a mouse on a keyboard could do that faster.

NAME THAT TUNE!!
This is a little embarrassing but I know some kind soul here will know... I like this pop song and it has a real catchy chorus, an all-girl group, SugarBabes, Girls Aloud, who knows, I checked my NOW albums but can't find it... A friend suggested making a sound-clip but I had a better idea, downloaded some software (electronic piano) and hit it out on there, if you go to my website here... www.dy-na-mix.webs.com ... on the homepage before the banner you will see a grey box, click on the play and you can hear the melody, it's not as fast as the tune is in real time LOL I was not blessed with having rhythm, anyways, hope somebody will know what this song is as I would like it in my collection, thanks in advance!
