McFly - Young Dumb Thrills
That's quite an excellent achievement and sales for them, so pleased for them. The album is a corker ('Head Up' is my favourite) and I loved the documentary on ITV over the weekend. They announced on This Morning today that they are launching a brand new subscription streaming service on Friday at 9am called McFly: Total Access. This IGTV explains it a little bit more: Basically it'll be a dedicated online hub with regular live streamed gigs from their new studio, as well as much of their filmed live back catalogue, fully restored versions of all their official music videos and on the site's launch this Friday to mark it being one year on there'll be the full O2 Arena comeback show from last year. £9.99 a month or £99 for a year's subscription. I'm sold I think!

Niall Horan - Heartbreak Weather
ThePensmith posted a post in a topic in Harry Styles and One Direction's Harry Styles and One DirectionLooking at his Insta Stories just now, like much of the music industry - and the world generally - he's having to cancel a load of promo dates for the album because of the Coronavirus outbreak. Just hope it doesn't adversely affect the release too much for him, I get the sense that he feels it's make or break. Obviously the timing of all this is beyond his control but hopefully it still does well. Lovely performance on The One Show last week as well. PXCISD94T20

ThePensmith's Top 20 Singles Chart
Hello everyone, time to bring you my first top 20 singles chart of a brand new month. Is Dua Lipa about to break into her second month at the top, or will new entries from Mabel, Jonas Blue and SZA with Justin Timberlake prove too tough a challenge? Here's where we find out... THEPENSMITH'S TOP 20 SINGLES CHART Week ending 6th March 2020 © AM LIMITED 2020 1. (HNE) SZA & JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - The Other Side 2. (NE) MABEL - Boyfriend 3. (5) JORDAN MACKAMPA - Magic 4. KEY (1) - last week's position (HNE) - highest new entry (NE) - new entry (RE) - re-entry CHART COMMENTARY A new month, and with it a brand new number one to finally end Dua Lipa's reign at the top. In fact all of the static top 3 from the last fortnight have been released from their stillwater marooning at the top end of our chart. Leading the charge as the week's biggest new single is what we tentatively think might be history repeating itself. Cast your minds back four years ago, when the first of the animated Trolls films made their cinematic debut. The song that accompanied its release from the soundtrack was 'Can't Stop The Feeling', which went onto be a mammoth eight week chart topper for Justin Timberlake, who also provided one of the voices for the film, as well as being our biggest single of that year. C5RrNaCfUXE Fast forward to March 2020, and the sequel, Trolls: World Tour, is awaiting release next month, and with it another soundtrack chart topper for the former *NSYNC star in a chart career that now dates back over two decades. Interestingly though, Justin isn't even the main star on 'The Other Side'. Instead that credit goes to American R&B songstress SZA. Either way, it gives her a debut number one with her first ever entry on our chart, whilst Justin adds his fourth chart topper to a pile that includes 'SexyBack' (September 2006), 'Mirrors' (February 2013) and the aforementioned 'Can't Stop The Feeling' (May 2016). 'Believe', the current Meek Mill hit that he also features on retains a top 10 berth in its third showing, down three places at #9, giving him two top 10s simultaneously for the first time in his career. Recent winner of Best British Female at the BRIT Awards - thus replicating the feat her mum, Neneh Cherry pulled off thirty years previously - Mabel returns to our chart this week with the second highest new entry at #2 for new single 'Boyfriend'. It is her third top 3 hit in the last year, including 'Don't Call Me Up' which peaked there exactly a year ago, and her chart topper 'Mad Love' from last June. She also hit the top 10 at Christmas with 'Loneliest Time of Year' peaking at #9. xi3c-9qzrPY Jordan Mackampa's debut hit 'Magic' is proving to be quite self prophetical - now on its third week around, it climbs another two places to #3, after climbing two to #5 from its entry point of #7 last week. Jonas Blue is also back in our top 10 this week at #6 with 'Mistakes'. A collaboration with Paloma Faith, it is her second top 10 hit in recent months following the #6 peak of DJ Spoony's rework of 'Movin' Too Fast' that she provided guest vocals to in January, and his fourth in the last twelve months. v1xJx5KyQu0 Also new in the top 20 this week: 'Spotlight', the first top 20 hit in three years for Jessie Ware, whose Table Manners podcast has taken off to such an extent that she has now published a cookbook with her mum and co-host, Lennie Ware. It's also now her highest peaking to date, entering at #12. kw56LGfrf4A Alicia Keys rounds off the new arrivals at #16 with 'Underdog', the second single from her forthcoming eponymous album 'Alicia' due for release in May. It improves on the performance of its first single, 'Show Me Love', which only got as high as #29 on our chart last September. izyZLKIWGiA

ThePensmith's Top 20 Singles Chart
Hello everyone, time to bring you my personal top 20 singles of the week as always. Can Dua Lipa make it a month on top with 'Physical', or will she be challenged by new singles from Jax Jones and Call Me Loop? Here's your answer... *N.B As of this week, the Flashback Chart feature will no longer appear on my weekly commentary, due to an increased work schedule from my end as of next week. THEPENSMITH'S TOP 20 SINGLES CHART Week ending 28th February 2020 © AM LIMITED 2020 1. (1) DUA LIPA - Physical 2. (2) NIALL HORAN - No Judgement 3. (3) JONAS BROTHERS - What A Man Gotta Do 4. (HNE) JAX JONES FEAT. MARTIN SOLVEIG & RAYE - Tequila 5. (7) JORDAN MACKAMPA - Magic 6. (4) MEEK MILL FEAT. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - Believe 7. (5) THE SHIRES - Independence Day 8. (6) JAMES BLUNT FEAT. DIJON - Trust3000 Compiled from my own personal listening in the last seven days across streaming, digital and physical formats. KEY (1) - last week's position (HNE) - highest new entry (NE) - new entry (RE) - re-entry CHART COMMENTARY Glad you could join us for what is probably going to be one of our shortest commentaries since Christmas. For Dua Lipa retains the biggest single in our chart once again, as 'Physical' becomes the first record this year to spend four weeks at the top of our chart - and indeed, the first since Mark Ronson and Camila Cabello's 'Find U Again' held pole position for a whole lunar cycle in August last year. Much more about the single there is little to say, other than the fact that, with the success of both 'Physical' and 'Don't Start Now', all the signs are pointing to her forthcoming second album 'Future Nostalgia' - due to hit the shelves in April - being an even bigger success than her debut. Highest new entry of the week - and the only new arrival to this week's top 10 - is at #4 for Jax Jones, who has teamed up with Martin Solveig and Raye for his new single 'Tequila'. It marks his highest charting single since 'You Don't Know Me' peaked at the same position almost three years ago to the date. wKkj8AeRPus Call Me Loop's debut hit 'Self Love' was a fixture in our top 10 for much of late summer last year, getting as high as #4 in August. The follow-up, the somewhat unfortunately named 'Downhill From Here', finally surfaces this week and enters at #12. rkji5N5Gi-Q Just one place below that is Irish songstress RuthAnne, back with her sixth top 20 hit 'Cold Water', but which fails to repeat the top 10 successes of her last two singles, 'Take What I Can Get' and 'The Vow', both of which made #6 in August and October last year. Exciting to know new stuff isn't too far away - I loved 'Tears on the Dancefloor' so I'm expecting great things from this.

JLS - Beat Again Tour - November 2020
I think - and this is just my take on it - it's two things. Firstly, because there's still a lot of love for them out there. They had - and still do - a genuine bond and brotherhood between them, which is one of the main appeals, but if you went to the tours back in the day you saw why cause you really got your money's worth, it was a proper full on show. Also they took their break at probably the right time first time around, before people got sick of them but whilst there was still a lot of good will towards them, which obviously has led to them being able to pursue their personal projects so well - Marvin presenting and DJing, JB presenting and farming, Aston doing solo stuff, Strictly and musical theatre work. Also, they did the sensible thing like Take That did of testing the waters first with a tour to see if their audience was still there, which it obviously is based on this, and I think that'll stand them in good stead to record some new stuff. I think that's probably where Pussycat Dolls have fallen down, 'React' is an OK song but it's no 'Don't Cha' or 'Beep'. Not to mention that with the best will in the world, a great deal of Nicole Scherzinger's career since their split was along the same lines musically.

JLS - Beat Again Tour - November 2020
Tour now sits at 30 dates - another Belfast show went on sale this morning:
-
United Kingdom · Eurovision Song Contest 2020
I don't think it'll be JLS. They've only been back for a week and a half, and all they've done so far is put a new tour on sale, they've even said themselves they've not been in the studio yet. I think the optimist in me would like to think that with Radio 1 announcing it it could be a more contemporary artist, and I love Mabel, I think she's fantastic so would be a great choice to send her with a really current, upbeat song. The other side of me though wonders if it's just something they'll announce under obligation and then speak no more of five minutes after the fact.

Concerts
Booked for JLS' reunion tour at The O2 in December last week :D Westlife are playing up the road from me in Colchester in July - although it's not sold out yet so I'm gonna judge a bit nearer the time and see if any tickets go on a Groupon deal or similar. Also not strictly a music 'gig' but have seen that Rob Beckett is doing his stand up tour in Brentwood in October which I would like to go see, I think he's hilarious

JLS - Beat Again Tour - November 2020
I think for me it's stood up well because it had a slight air of melancholy in the lyrics, when you listen to it, even though it is an uptempo song. But yeah the trance style production on it has me LIVING :D I am loving these quiz style games they've been doing in their interviews again, like this one for Capital they did. They're so competitive  ox2U2aZexpQ Their greatest hits album from 2013 (I don't like calling it by its actual name, more so because it should be called something else now) returned to the album chart at #47 on Friday.

ThePensmith's Top 20 Singles Chart
Evening all - hope you've had a good week. Let's take a look at how my personal top 20 singles are holding up. Is Dua Lipa about to make it three weeks at the top for 'Physical'? Maybe Niall Horan or Meek Mill with Justin Timberlake have overthrown her? Here's where you find out... THEPENSMITH'S TOP 20 SINGLES CHART Week ending 21st February 2020 © AM LIMITED 2020 1. (1) DUA LIPA - Physical 2. (2) NIALL HORAN - No Judgement 3. (4) JONAS BROTHERS - What A Man Gotta Do 4. (HNE) MEEK MILL FEAT. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - Believe 5. (NE) THE SHIRES - Independence Day 6. (5) JAMES BLUNT FEAT. WARD THOMAS - Halfway 7. (NE) JORDAN MACKAMPA - Magic 8. (6) JP COOPER - In These Arms 9. (7) NERVO FEAT. PLASTIK FUNK & TIM MORRISON - Dare Me 10. (8) BECKY HILL FEAT. TOVE LO - Calling On Me 16. (3) THE PUSSYCAT DOLLS - React 17. (12) LÉON - In A Stranger's Arms 18. (13) NO ROME FEAT. DIJON - Trust3000 19. (15) CHRISTINE AND THE QUEENS - People, I've Been Sad 20. (17) DJ SPOONY PRESENTS GARAGE CLASSICAL FEAT. PALOMA FAITH - Movin' Too Fast Compiled from my own personal listening in the last seven days across streaming, digital and physical formats. KEY (1) - last week's position (HNE) - highest new entry (NE) - new entry (RE) - re-entry CHART COMMENTARY As you were: Dua Lipa is number one for a third week with 'Physical', whilst Niall Horan stays put in second place with 'No Judgement'. Combined with a one place rise back to #3 for Jonas Brothers with their former chart topper, it seems that nobody can hold a candle to these three records at the moment, all of whom are outperforming all other current hits. The highest new entry of the week thus slides in at #4, marking the debut of one artist and the (sort of) return of another. US rapper Meek Mill has been releasing music since 2012, but his latest single 'Believe' gives him his first ever hit on my chart today. The powerful track features guest vocals from Justin Timberlake, M.I.A since the disastrous flop of his last studio album 'Man of the Woods' two years ago, and who thus returns to a top 5 berth for the first time since 'Can't Stop the Feeling' actually topped our chart in the spring of 2016. 4rNo-UuGDfA The Shires are certainly not wasting any time with releasing new singles off their soon to be releasednew album 'Good Years'. 'New Year' and 'Lightning Strikes' have both been top 10 hits within the last two months, and now 'Independence Day' gives them a third - seventh overall of their career - and also their highest peaking to date, entering at #5. PEkHsIJa2A8 #7 this week is a new entry for 'Magic', the debut hit for Coventry based, London born singer/songwriter Jordan Mackampa. Whilst he cites Marvin Gaye and Bill Withers as influences, this catchy little floorfiller actually owes a little bit more to a 60s, bossa nova type sound. Keep your eyes peeled on this young man. bEFDQT7mJhE Finally this week, Aloe Blacc and Sean Paul return with new singles. Aloe was last on our chart as recently as May last year when 'SOS', his collaboration with the late Avicii spent four weeks locked at #2. 'I Do' is the first single off a brand new album and enters at #11. Sean Paul meanwhile has been making sporadic appearances on and off on our chart in recent years, topping the charts at Christmas 2016 of course with Clean Bandit on 'Rockabye'. His new single is a collaboration with Tove Lo, called 'Calling On Me', and returns him to our top 20 at #15. ZFXLDUtAqnE A-jQRB-r2Do FLASHBACK TOP 10 Your chance to see how my personal top 10 was looking on this week in the last 20 years. This week in 2011: JLS score their sixth consecutive number one - with Tinie Tempah - on 'Eyes Wide Shut', plus classic hits from Chipmunk, Rihanna and Bruno Mars 1. (HNE) JLS FEAT. TINIE TEMPAH - Eyes Wide Shut qJcBWDCBldY 2. (1) CHIPMUNK FEAT. CHRIS BROWN - Champion 3. (2) RIHANNA - S&M 4. (4) BRUNO MARS - Grenade 5. (3) TAIO CRUZ FEAT. KYLIE MINOGUE - Higher 6. JLS - Beat Again Tour - November 2020
I know, it's going to be really celebratory! I can say you're in for a treat - I went to all their tours back in the day with the exception of the Goodbye tour (I couldn't get to it because of family commitments at the time). I think my favourite they previously did was the 'Outta This World' tour, which I saw at Wembley at Christmas 2010 with my dad. There's a few videos of it from their film 'Eyes Wide Open' on YouTube: Z9xnvyAMbKU Da1_ZYVIRs4 5n0Zn8Mj5cc Pr5JYSRmxNo

One hit wonders who..
Another song of theirs that was well recognised - but didn't chart/get released here - was 'Fashion', which subsequently went onto be the theme tune for Gok Wan's show he did on Channel 4 called 'Gok's Fashion Fix'.

About what I expected results wise so far! The video for 'My Heart Takes Over' is one I see in a different light now though after reading Frankie's book (I went to her launch event for it a couple of weeks ago in London). She was really struggling mentally at that point God love her.

JLS - Beat Again Tour - November 2020
I loved the LuvBug singles, 'Resonance' was my favourite. Quite unusual for somebody from a pop band - especially one that was as huge as they were - to take that move to behind the scenes as it were, but Marv's had a solid DJing and production career out of it. They spoke on the Brits red carpet the other night about doing something with Stormzy, which I actually think would make sense if they got the right song. Tinie Tempah was on 'Eyes Wide Shut' with them when he was at his peak, and that seems to be a favourite single of theirs for many to this day (still one of mine too).
