The BRIT Awards 2025
Have to say been watching clips back online today. So delighted for Jade, she really deserved it and last night felt like it was the start of something big for her. Sabrina Carpenter and Sam Fender were good as well I thought, very deserving winners. Good year for the BRITs in all I'd say which in this day and age is a lot!

Five
So they were at the BRIT Awards last night - coincidentally 25 years to the very night they opened the show with Queen doing "We Will Rock You"! Jack Whitehall predictably gave them a mild roasting (and a very on the nose joke involving Stormzy and Five Guys 🤣)

Oh same. S Club 7 used to do it as well and I always remember thinking it cost them several number ones!

I was gonna say that their three singles prior to "Keep On Movin'" were an unlucky run. Although that said, it was only with "If Ya Gettin' Down" that they were truly in with a shot of being number one, it was number one all week until Ricky Martin took a last minute surge of 3,900 copies on the Saturday (as he had done the week before with Steps and "Love's Got a Hold On My Heart", which had also been midweek number one). With "Everybody Get Up" they were #2 on 82,000 copies - just over 34,500 behind All Saints who were number one with "Bootie Call" that week (which I bought that week - so I was partly responsible for that happening!), and with "Until the Time Is Through" they were #2 on 84,000 and were 55k+ behind Cher with "Believe" on its fifth week, so were never in contention for the top those times. Some of it was also owing to the fact they priced all said singles at £3.99 first week - All Saints for example were £1.99 with "Bootie Call" in that week so they sold more on the strength of that (it fell to #7 a week later). The one instance where they were lucky to be #1 was with "We Will Rock You", as Ronan Keating "Life Is A Rollercoaster" which they knocked off the top from the previous week had a big chunk of its original CD1 sales disqualified - over 100k - because they broke chart regulations on having a CD-Rom video featured on it but not of the actual song. Had it not been disqualified, that would have missed out.

Link Not surprised at "Got The Feelin'" being their second best seller. That and B*Witched "C'est La Vie" were on constant rotation for me that summer, I had the cassette singles of both! Pretty flawless singles run really when you look at it. Buzzing for the tour!

Really sorry if this is an obvious question - and I did read the Upgrade and Downtime thread and the fact it's not BBCode now - but I'm having real trouble embedding YouTube videos into posts. Not sure what I'm doing wrong - please can someone help?

So it appears Five are on the verge of making an announcement next week. Their Instagram profile has wiped - as indeed has Scott, Ritchie and even Abz (née Abs)' ones (Sean doesn't have one, and of course we all know about J). I wonder what they're about to announce? https://itsfiveofficial.com/- Olly Murs
I mean it's hard to say at this stage, but I do think BMG is where he should have gone on the last album. Mainly because they handle the distribution side of things more and make those more accessible whilst allowing more creative and promotional freedom to the artist, which was something that EMI definitely didn't give him on Marry Me. Obviously Kylie Minogue is a good example of someone who BMG have done wonders with - her last three albums have all been released with them and all have gone to number one. I'd say he's got a stronger chance of it doing better than the last album provided they get all the elements right - and crucially, that the new material is better than the last album, because it was essentially a three or four track EP of good songs buried in a load of filler.- Big Boys
Binge watched the whole of the series on Thursday night. Just magnificent.- Boyzone
Anyhow, back on topic... their next three singles, "Key To My Life", "So Good" and "Father and Son" have all been added to DSPs today, as has "Working My Way Back To You" (which was their debut single in Ireland):- Olly Murs
Just shared on his Instagram Stories that he's signed a new record deal today with BMG. Looks like new music isn't too far away then!- Boyzone
As I mentioned a couple of posts back, Louis being a wazzock of the highest order is not news to me. His total lack of accountability or remorse that's been highlighted in this documentary but also Boybands Forever last year is one thing. But then it's also well documented that he basically did the sum total of flap all for Girls Aloud after Popstars: The Rivals. In fact, all he did until they got Hilary Shaw on board was (checks notes) take a third of their earnings, call them a "bunch of English knackers" over a phone call to Nadine, and turn up at the video shoot for "Love Machine" to tell them they didn't look fat anymore. All the while Kimberley was doing his job because apart from Peter Loraine at Polydor they didn't really have anyone backing their corner. - Rachel Stevens: Finding My Voice
