The BMRB Years- The Top 10 Sales
17TH OCTOBER Creating something of a vacuum at the top of the charts in its demise "Prince Charming" slumps 1-4 (61,000) this week and can thank its TOTP play for making that drop look respectable as it was on for 1-7 drop by midweek! The race to replace it was always between two tracks, The Tweets and Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin and again TOTP featured "It's My Party" and not "The Birdie Song" which saw its midweek No 1 position overturned quite dramatically by "It's My Party" which leaps jumped 8-1 (84,000) to become one of the years more unexpected chart toppers. P-RQJNYAR-c Four new tracks to liven up the top 10 this week starting with Toyah who leaps 13-5 (54,000) with "Thunder In The Mountains" a third straight top 10 hit for the group and incidentally has a video directed by Godley & Crème who continue the ascend with "Under Your Thumb" this week 4-3 (65,000) to create a notable week for them. The Toyah track is not available on their last album "Anthem" which contributes to its rapid climb (no Toyah track has been top 5 after just 3 weeks) as 1981 shapes up to be one to remember for the band. xltpyMkzdNo Parent album "Dare" is due next week, but already single No 3 is plucked from it and "Open Your Heart" explodes 21-6 ( 54,000) this week. Readers will note this is a "blue" single for the band denoting a "pop" release, but either pop or dance the group score a second top 10 hit on the trot. Incidentally with the Police and Shaky in the top 2 on the album charts it should be a real test to see if the band can compete with the big boys of 1981. bBI9zXQe0N4 With an ever growing fanbase Depeche Mode have been expanding In stature throughout 1981 with first hit "Dreaming Of Me" hitting No 57 and followed with "New Life" which went agonisingly close to the top 10 at No 11 this summer, but they wait no longer for a top 10 as "Just Can't Get Enough" trips into the big 10 moving 11-8 (47,000) and you only have to wait another month for debut album "Speak and Spell". -2YkK077SpE Bad Manners prove that the Ska revival isn't quite dead yet as "Walkin In The Sunshine" arrives 16-10 (44,000) and like its predecessor "Can Can" comes from their album "Gosh....It's Bad Manners" which also gets its release next week and will hope to follow Madness (their main rivals in the movement certainly since the implosion of The Specials) into the top 10. u9csSb-H9GE Two fallers complete the top 10, Ottawan slide 5-7 (49,000) and The Police hurtle 3-9 (46,000). 1- IT’S MY PARTY- Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin (84,000) 2- THE BIRDIE SONG (THE BIRDIE DANCE)- The Tweets (73,000) 3- UNDER YOUR THUMB- Godley & Creme (65,000) 4- PRINCE CHARMING- Adam & The Ants (61,000) 5- THUNDER IN THE MOUNTAINS- Toyah (54,000) 6- OPEN YOUR HEART- Human League (54,000) 7- HANDS UP (GIVE ME YOUR HEART)- Ottawan (49,000) 8- JUST CAN’T GET ENOUGH- Depeche Mode (47,000) 9- INVISIBLE SUN- The Police (46,000) 10- WALKIN IN THE SUNSHINE- Bad Manners (44,000)

The BMRB Years- The Top 10 Sales
10TH OCTOBER On a major charm offensive and with not much competition around "Prince Charming" holds top spot for 1 fourth week but it is now under pressure, it's sale of 106,000 shows how gentle a decline it is experiencing as its total sales move over half a million without seemingly suffering too much with the public. The band have now spent 9 weeks at the top of the charts this year. more than any other act and have confirmed they will be releasing a Christmas single- could the race be over already for the festive chart topper?, however it is probably their last week at No 1 and before moving on it's time to reflect on the YTD charts as we hit the 3/4 of a year mark! 1- STAND & DELIVER- Adam & The Ants 854,208 2- TAINTED LOVE- Soft Cell 780,600 3- THIS OLE HOUSE- Shakin Stevens 721,620 4- VIENNA- Ultravox 696,288 5- MAKING YOUR MIND UP- Bucks Fizz 685,692 6- ONE DAY IN YOUR LIFE- Michael Jackson 685,332 7- SHADDAP YOU FACE- Joe Dolce Musical Theatre 667,896 8- YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY- Shakin Stevens 630,108 9- GHOST TOWN- The Specials 605,232 10- BEING WITH YOU- Smokey Robinson 594,840 "Prince Charming" has sold 581,988 to date placing it at No 11 so far 9p__WmyAE3g The threat to Adam & The Ants ongoing reign comes from the Tweets as "Birdie Song" got TOTP exposure and shoots 7-2 (98,000) and it must be odds on to become the UK's No 1 next week- brace yourself! The expected challenge from The Police didn't come to be this week as "Invisible Sun" tumbles 2-3 (68,000) in the main due to the appearance of parent album "Ghost In The Machine" which slams into the No 1 spot today by an easy margin. Formerly both members of the folk outfit Hatfield and the North, Dave Stewart hit the charts earlier this year in tow with Former Zombies front man Colin Bluntstone on a cover of "What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted" peaking at No 13. Now he's back with the backing singer from his old group Barbara Gaskin on a cover of Leslie Gore's 1963 No 9 hit "It's My Party", as it rises 17-8 (61,000) it already surpasses the original peak wise. Rumour is that the pair are a couple in real life! wijSH0RYDnI In other news Godley & Crème continue to move in the right direction 6-4 (68,000), Madness move 10-7 (64,000) (the same position as their album enters at) but going in the wrong direction are Ottawan 3-5 (67,000), Alvin Stardust has had enough 4-6 (64,000) and OMD drop 5-10 (40,000) whilst Diana Ross and Lionel Richie hold at No 9 (60,000) in what a great week sales all around with only 8k separating numbers 3 and 9. 1- PRINCE CHARMING- Adam & The Ants (106,000) 2- THE BIRDIE SONG (THE BIRDIE DANCE)- The Tweets (98,000) 3- INVISIBLE SUN- The Police (68,000) 4- UNDER YOUR THUMB- Godley & Crème (68,000) 5- HANDS UP (GIVE ME YOUR HEART)- Ottawan (67,000) 6- PRETEND- Alvin Stardust (64,000) 7- SHUT UP- Madness (64,000) 8- IT’S MY PARTY- Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin (61,000) 9- ENDLESS LOVE- Diana Ross & Lionel Richie (60,000) 10- SOUVENIR- O.M.D (40,000)

The BMRB Years- The Top 10 Sales
3RD OCTOBER "Prince Charming" continues to lead a charmed life at the top as it clings onto No 1 but again loses a further 13% sales to clock in at 116,000 for this week but more importantly had another easy week at the top! It will move over the half million this week as the group top the charts for an 8th week- a new 80s record. Returning to the "Prince Charming/ War Canoe" issue of a few weeks ago, it seems that while Rolf Harris has officially been silent on the matter, his label is re-releasing the latter track this week to cash-in, just in case you wanted a copy. DqnSY_ctXoE The Police's "Invisible Sun" continues to bask in its mild controversy at it jumps 9-2 (69,000) and doubles its sales. it managed to just, at the death, catch Ottawan (68,000) to keep them in third place but they are both too far from Adam & The Ants to suggest they will make up the difference next week. TOTP and the BBC have declined to show the promo as it shows scenes from "the troubles" and instead used the track as playout with still photos of the band, The concept of a ghost haunting a commuter isn't a common one but clearly ex 10ccers saw a gap in the market and created "Under Your Thumb" which this week materialises 11-6 (63,000). Though it isn't the duo's first release since they left their famous group it is the first one to chart, and they even show their skill for producing as they direct the promo, they also have a high benchmark to recreate the success of 10cc after accruing 11 top 10 singles including 2 chart toppers. 26sfqiGEjKE Moving ahead of the rest of the field again Madness score a 7th top 10 hit in the 80s today, which is fittingly enough from their new album "7" which is finally out next week. Following Godley & Creme's rather unusual theme Madness have chosen a song about a criminal who tries to convince others of his innocence, all of which is backed up by another typically energetic Madness promo. The group will also feature in their own film "Take It Or Leave It" out later in the month and will detail the band's rise to fame which is part financed by the group themselves. GIDFeLoIxX0 So what of our other tracks in the top 10, well climbers come from Alvin Stardust who is quite done yet as he moves 5-4 (65,000) and the Tweets 8-7 (60,000) who make a decent gain for retail despite a 1 place rise. Not so good news for OMD who recede 4-5 (63,000), Lionel Richie & Diana Ross who slip 7-9 (57,000) and Soft Cell who have a dramatic drop 2-8 (57,000) and have a 35% loss of sales as the public seem to have had enough for now. Regardless it is a very strong week at retail 1- PRINCE CHARMING- Adam & The Ants (116,000) 2- INVISIBLE SUN- The Police (69,000) 3- HANDS UP (GIVE ME YOUR HEART)- Ottawan (68,000) 4- PRETEND- Alvin Stardust (65,000) 5- SOUVENIR- O.M.D (63,000) 6- UNDER YOUR THUMB- Godley & Creme (63,000) 7- THE BIRDIE SONG (THE BIRDIE DANCE)- The Tweets (60,000) 8- TAINTED LOVE- Soft Cell (57,000) 9- ENDLESS LOVE- Diana Ross & Lionel Richie (57,000) 10- SHUT UP- Madness (55,000)

The BMRB Years- The Top 10 Sales
26TH SEPTEMBER Both of the top 2 records this week hold steady despite a decline in sales for both tracks of 8% and 31% respectively to record a total of 134,000 and 88,000. Cumulatively "Prince Charming" has sprinted to 359,000 in just 21 days, an impressive feat regardless of the act, but it is still a long way behind the 618,000 sales of "Tainted Love" - where that places it on the YTD we'll find out next week. 9p__WmyAE3g It's a strong week for sales with Ottawan advancing 4-3 (86,000) and almost sneaking past "Tainted Love", and OMD shifting 80,000 copies of "Souvenir" but lose a spot 3-4. Lionel Richie is better known as the lead singer of The Commodores who were last in the top 10 with "Still" in 1979, he now strikes out as a solo act with "Endless Love which Is taken from the film of the same name. In tow he has Diana Ross who has had a quiet 1981 after a rather stellar 1980 and this is her 14th top 10 as a credited artist, it's also currently in its 7th week at No 1 Stateside where it is on the money to become the biggest hit of the year. It climbs 13-7 (65,000) this week. UsqDoz2Co4o Dating back to the 50s and called, at various times, the Chicken Dance, the Duck Dance and the little bird dance and composed as a folk song in Switzerland, the "Birdie Song" has landed in the UK. Though the exact roots are unknown it was recorded by Dutch act "De Electronica's" last year as a B-Side which some bright DJ decided sounded better than the A side and flipped it. It went on to be a massive Dutch hit and success around Europe followed in a slew of alternative versions, here in the UK an entirely reputable producer, Henry Hadaway, produced a version for which he invented the group The Tweets, and this week finds himself soaring 25-8 (47,000) with the "Birdie Song", a far cry from working with some of the big names from 50s/60s pop. The "original" Dutch version climbs 59-29 this week and could join it in the top 10. HGDmLMn-0h4 Becoming the 6th track to debut in the top 10 this year The Police return with a song which has already been blanked by BBC due its subject, namely the current troubles in Northern Ireland. "Invisible Sun" shoots straight into No 9 (35,000) and is the first single from their forthcoming album "Ghost In The Machine" which is due in a fortnight's time and the track is also a 7th top 10 hit for the group. 1VuDjJ9KIxM The Pointer Sisters are already 12 years old but have only 2 minor UK hits to their name thus far though they are a big act in their native US where they have achieved several top 10 hits, including "Slow Hand" which provides them with a top 10 hit this week as it glides 11-10 (35,000). The track has already peaked at No 2 in the US behind "Endless Love" and is again seemingly beaten by that song in the UK listings. ipCBK4TTnO0 Two other songs to mention, Alvin Stardust continues to impress 8-5 (79,000) and Cliff drops 5-6 (66,000). 1- PRINCE CHARMING- Adam & The Ants (134,000) 2- TAINTED LOVE- Soft Cell (88,000) 3- HANDS UP (GIVE ME YOUR HEART)- Ottawan (86,000) 4- SOUVENIR- O.M.D (80,000) 5- PRETEND- Alvin Stardust (79,000) 6- WIRED FOR SOUND- Cliff Richard (66,000) 7- ENDLESS LOVE- Diana Ross & Lionel Richie (65,000) 8- THE BIRDIE SONG (BIRDIE DANCE)- The Tweets (47,000) 9- INVISIBLE SUN- The Police (35,000) 10- SLOW HAND- The Pointer Sisters (35,000)

90s Top 10 Sales- Week By Week- 1996
Yes I've noticed the figures are always higher than the sales. I'm using the sales given at the time so I don't think it's a matter of revising down. More likely they got them from the record company who beefed it up to make the act look more popular or gave them shipment figures

General Election 2024 Live Thread
Absolutely true. At 48 i've spent 2/3 of my life under Tory rule and the other 13 years under Blair/Brown so you can see how "left-wing" the country really is. The amount of people in the thread STILL thinking Corbyn would have got in or why Labour are still treading a pretty central line to have power is bewildering when the truth is pretty evident. As Rooney put it the country is pretty centre right in most respects. Labour only ever get in promising not to rock the boat too much...... Forgot to add Liz Truss losing was a great sight- whoever you support frankly.

90s Top 10 Sales- Week By Week- 1996
11TH MAY When Mr Blobby returned to No 1 in late 1993 it was viewed as a freak achievement in this day and age, an anomaly of the Christmas charts but it almost happened this week as George Michael’s “Fastlove” haemorrhaged 32% of its sales to record just 74,000 sales whilst the former chart topper from Mark Morrison lost a more modest 20% to emerge with 71,000 and was within striking distance at the end of play. With Gina G in continuing in third place (64,000) on a decline of 12% and Eurovision still a fortnight away it all makes next week’s chart an interesting prospect with any of the tracks capable of making No 1. 2xLZkh0HomM Blur’s fourth single from “The Great Escape” becomes a forth top 10 single to be taken from it. “Charmless Man” comes with a promo featuring actor Jean-Marc Barr and sees the album bounce 54-47 but it has already sold over 820,000 in its 34 week lifespan, the single opens at No 5 (43,000). QnZCK43DbYg It’s a good week for Britpop as The Bluetones add to Blur in the top tier by coming in at No 7 (31,000) with double A-Side “Castle Rock/ Cut Some Rug”. A third single from their No 1 album “Expecting To Fly” which rises 37-31 and has already gone silver (100,000). zISz5khFE3E Back in the late 80s/ early 90s rapper Busta Rhymes was part of a group called Leaders Of The New School which broke up live on an episode of “Yo! MTV Raps” in 1994 with Busta going on to do feature raps before recording his solo album which is now ready. Lead single “Woo Hah!! Got You All In Check” dutifully enters at No 8 (29,000) and features a sample of Sugarhill Gang’s “8th Wonder” among others, his album left the charts quickly after its No 48 debut but hopefully can shift something more now that it contains a hit. 1WU5PeOODrI The Netherlands seems to be producing the club hits these days and hot on the heels of Technohead come Klubbheads, a trio of DJ’s whose “Klubbhopping” has been big in clubland for a few months now and gets its chart berth at No 10 (24,000). giZP-8eanp0 Suggs Featuring Louchie Lou & Michie One inch ever closer to the top of the chart 5-4 (54,000) and are to be congratulated on the longevity of the cover of “Cecilia” especially given the increasingly quick turnaround of the charts these days. Manchester United rise 8-6 (42,000) as they formally win the premiership, but Manic Street Preachers drop 4-9 (26,000). 1- FASTLOVE- George Michael (74,000) 2- RETURN OF THE MACK- Mark Morrison (71,000) 3- OOH AAH JUST A LITTLE BIT- Gina G (64,000) 4- CECLILIA- Suggs Ft Louchie Lou & Michie One (54,000) 5- CHARMLESS MAN- Blur (43,000) 6- MOVE MOVE MOVE (THE RED TRIBE)- Manchester United Squad (42,000) 7- CUT SOME RUG/ CASTLE ROCK- The Bluetones (31,000) 8- WOO-HAH GOT YOU ALL IN CHECK- Busta Rhymes (29,000) 9- A DESIGN FOR LIFE- Manic Street Preachers (26,000) 10- KLUBBHOPPING- Klubheads (24,000)

90s Top 10 Sales- Week By Week- 1996
4TH MAY Nothing could stop George Michael scoring his 7th solo chart topper this week- sales of “Fastlove” ended up at 110,000 as he scored his second hat-trick of solo credited No 1 singles dating back to “Five Live EP” in 1993. His album “Older” was already a practically guaranteed chart topper after waiting 6 years since his last studio album but it should debut now with big sales. “Fastlove” contains a sample of Patrice Rushen’s “Forget Me Nots” a No 8 hit in 1982 and keep an eye out in the video for a dig at his former label Sony! Incidentally if you include his Wham! hits then he’s topped the charts 11 times putting him fourth in the all time list! SHAQlFq6TFg Continuing with those 80s acts doing well in the 90s The Pet Shop Boys return with a new single from their first album (proper) in three years and it’s their 15th top 10 single. “Before” comes with a remix of “In The Night” for those hard core fans and is new at No 7 (35,000) and heralds a new album due in the autumn. D0skdPRuPsk One place below Pet Shop Boys is a football single- must be the end of the season? And Manchester United must be involved? They seem the only club capable of generating a top 10 single year after year and this is now the third year they’ve done it, the song is “Move Move Move (The Red Tribe)” and is co-produced by a certain Pete Waterman. The team have already won the League (almost) and have their sights set on the FA Cup final on May 11th, the single meanwhile debuts on sales of 30,000. WA5KT6qJXy0 More Britpop for you now, Sleeper have been slowly amassing the hits since their breakthrough with “Inbetweener” in early 1995 with some thanks to its Dale Winton featured promo and a support slot for Blur. Their name is plucked from the Woody Allen film and frontwoman Louise Wener has already become something of a tabloid star who is never afraid to share an opinion making her good print. The band record their first top 10 single this week with “Sale Of The Century” which sneaks in at No 10 (25,000). 6ExJNEj6KI8 Mark Morrison’s album is new at No 4 but sales of “Return Of The Mack” barely alter at all with another 89,000 copies passing hands as it dips 1-2, Gina G also maintains No 3 (73,000) and has now sold 308,000 copies making it the biggest Eurovision seller since Bucks Fizz 15 years ago. Suggs Featuring Louchie Lou & Michie One aren’t done yet as they climb 6-5 (52,000) but are still below the Manic Street Preachers who are off 2-4 (59,000). Michael Jackson retreats 4-6 (48,000) and Lisa Marie Experience slide 7-9 (27,000). 1- FASTLOVE- George Michael (110,000) 2- RETURN OF THE MACK- Mark Morrison (89,000) 3- OOH AAH JUST A LITTLE BIT- Gina G (73,000) 4- A DESIGN FOR LIFE- Manic Street Preachers (59,000) 5- CECLIA- Suggs Featuring Louchie Lou & Michie One (52,000) 6- THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT US- Michael Jackson (48,000) 7- BEFORE- Pet Shop Boys (35,000) 8- MOVE MOVE MOVE (THE RED TRIBE)- Manchester United Squad (30,000) 9- KEEP ON JUMPIN- Lisa Marie Experience (27,000) 10- SALE OF THE CENTURY- Sleeper (25,000)

The BMRB Years- The Top 10 Sales
19TH SEPTEMBER Well it turned into a bit of a tussle for the top spot this week but it was all over before the weekend with "Prince Charming" commanding a slimmish lead of 17,000 in the end and shifting a cool 146,000 copies for Adam & The Ants. It's their second No 1 single of the year selling 225,000 in 14 days it looks set to deliver them another massive seller for the act of the year. Minor controversy occurred this week when it was alleged that Ant had "borrowed" the riff from none other than Rolf Harris and his track "War Canoe" from the early 60s- this, it transpired, is true but merely because they are both based on an old Mauri folk song. DqnSY_ctXoE "Tainted Love" therefore drops to No 2, yet in selling 129,000 copies it has the highest tally for a record in that position in the whole of 1981 and beats the previous high of 124,00 recorded by Shakin Stevens' "You Drive Me Crazy" back in May, it also takes its total sales to 592,000 copies and is now in the top 5 for the YTD. Already a hit in France under the title "Haut Les Mains" Ottawan looked to be joining the long list of one hit wonders with the massive "D.I.S.C.O" being followed up by "You're OK" fizzling out at No 56 and not much after, they have however rekindled their UK chart career with another song that the UK public seem to have brought back in their suitcases. "Hands Up (Give Me Your Heart)" leaps 11-4 (82,000) this week and looks like it could at least replicate the chart peak of "D.I.S.C.O" if not its total sales of 620,000. It was released originally back in April but once again the power of the summer holiday proves its worth! -gziBMCvLGs Talking about career resurrections, Alvin Stardust arrives in the top 10, 26-8 (47,000) with "Pretend". He last had a hit in 1975 when "Sweet Cheatin Rita" made No 37 and it now takes a cover of the Nat "King" Cole classic which spent 5 weeks in the runner up position in 1953 to give him another hit- let's see if this can do any better! -yQIpFE9kzo Elsewhere OMD make waves with "Souvenir" which climbs 8-3 (83,000) but is way off the pace of the top 2. Moving down this week are Cliff Richard 4-5 (63,000) though he has his album out this week, Aneka 3-6 (54,000), ELO 5-7 (49,000), Rolling Stones 7-9 (43,000) and Human League 6-10 (42,000). Interestingly we found out this week that Hansa's Japanese licencing partner turned down releasing "Japanese Boy" in that country as it was "too Chinese"- go figure. 1- PRINCE CHARMING- Adam & The Ants (146,000) 2- TAINTED LOVE- Soft Cell (129,000) 3- SOUVENIR- O.M.D (83,000) 4- HANDS UP (GIVE ME YOUR HEART)- Ottawan (82,000) 5- WIRED FOR SOUND- Cliff Richard (63,000) 6- JAPANESE BOY- Aneka (54,000) 7- HOLD ON TIGHT- E.L.O (49,000) 8- PRETEND- Alvin Stardust (47,000) 9- START ME UP- Rolling Stones (43,000) 10- LOVE ACTION (I BELIEVE IN LOVE)- Human League (42,000)

General Election 2024 Live Thread
I think this is broadly right. If you add the tory vote to reform then it spells trouble for Starmer so it's reasonable to say the split let Labour win. Fair enough a victory is a victory and it's seats that matter but I think this is more fragile than it at first appears. Labour won't be able to campaign again on the change ticket in 5 years so the clock is ticking to do something. Radical however is doubtful given that people may feel it wasn't something they voted for but we will see.

The BMRB Years- The Top 10 Sales
12TH SEPTEMBER Another week and barely any slackening of the pace for "Tainted Love" as it completes another 170,000 copies to take its total to 463,000 putting it right on course to be one of the biggest hits of the year if not the top seller itself. We'll take a look at the best sellers of the year to date in a few weeks but there is no doubting the way that the song has certainly jelled with the British record buyer in part due to a mildly controversial appearance on TOTP. The pair are actually the first duo to hit No 1 since John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John back in 1978. CCTBuOheUpE Were it not for the extraordinary showing of Soft Cell at No 1 then no doubt we would be celebrating a second No 1 (not to mention a second debut at the top) for Adam & The Ants. "Prince Charming" is the title track from the most eagerly awaited album of 1981 which is due in November and it will be a miracle if it doesn't top the charts, the follow up to the first release from the era "Stand And Deliver" (it remains the biggest selling single of the year) this week "Prince Charming" debuts at No 2 on a sale of 79,000. In a normal week I would be stating that nothing could prevent its charge to the top next week but maybe the high bar set by Soft Cell might be to much to overcome! 9p__WmyAE3g Now on his 45th top 10 hit Cliff Richard will shortly be issuing his next album "Wired For Sound" and the title track bounds 11-4 (63,000) this week to become his biggest hit since last year's "Carrie" peaked at the same position. It's co-written by BA Robertson who is gearing up for a release of his own next month in a bit to keep his tag as popstar (in his own right) alive, and by way of trivia the video is filmed in Milton Keynes! 5h9UL0TTtnQ A 21st top 10 hit for Rolling Stones is up next, "Start Me Up" is already a major US release and its rise this week from 13-7 ( 54,000) to become their highest placed track since "Miss You" back in 1978 indicates the same over here. Interestingly the track actually dates back to 1975 when the band recorded it as a reggae song, subsequently it has been remade over the years into different versions but never good enough until it made the new album "Tattoo You" which debuts on the album charts at No 2 today behind "Dead Ringer" by Meat Loaf. SGyOaCXr8Lw The subject of a mix up at the pressing plant saw initial copies of the Human League's "Love Action" (this week's No 6- 57,000) actually being pressed with "Souvenir" by OMD on the A-Side. Well both songs are now in the top 10 independent of each other with the OMD song storming 23- 8 (53,000) to equal the peak of last year's "Enola Gay" and shares the same county house as backdrop to the promo as the Cliff Richard track, namely Buckinghamshire (in this case Stowe House). With a third album due before Christmas it proves the wealth of expected big sellers due before the big day itself in December, it also allows a chance at vocals for Paul Humphreys. kQWVQe6I8TI Four fallers also to mention, Aneka slacks off the pace dropping 2-3 (72,000) and was lucky to hold the top 3, ELO drop 4-5 (61,000) despite a sales increase, UB40 head into reverse 7-9 (47,000) as even a TOTP performance can't help them, and Gary Numan can't make it into the top 5 and dips 6-10 (36,000) but his album goes in at No 4 to compensate. 1- TAINTED LOVE- Soft Cell (170,000) 2- PRINCE CHARMING- Adam & The Ants (79,000) 3- JAPANESE BOY- Aneka (72,000) 4- WIRED FOR SOUND- Cliff Richard (63,000) 5- HOLD ON TIGHT- E.L.O (61,000) 6- LOVE ACTION (I BELIEVE IN LOVE)- Human League (57,000) 7- START ME UP- The Rolling Stones (54,000) 8- SOUVENIR- O.M.D (53,000) 9- ONE IN TEN- UB40 (47,000) 10- SHE’S GOT CLAWS- Gary Numan (36,000)

Kylie ● UK Chart Runs & Sales
Was just going to add I suspect that this is the truth- for whatever reason it has actually sold 200,000 since 1994 and as the last award was Silver it has now gone Platinum as that's the difference between the two awards. That would put its sales at 1.044 million which fits in with all the other updates and the rate it is selling. As we all know this isn't the way it should work but maybe there's a Kylie fan at the OCC :D It's the only way it makes sense in my opinion.
