  1. Congratulations to Dandy and Jim for the win, as well as all those who got all 20/20 correct! Very pleased with my final result of joint 5th place. Glad to get a half-point for guessing "All Rise" by Blue for number 8. I was thinking of "stairs" or "staircase" at first when I looked at the clue - for some reason I never thought of "Steps" which is galling as I have always been a massive fan of theirs! In the end then, I was more focusing on the "blue" aspect of the picture than the "stairs" and that's how I came up with All Rise by Blue. I'm not alone there as six of us thought the same! But yeah, "All Rise" was one of the answers I was doubtful about when submitting. I actually wasn't too far off in guessing the percentage of players who would get all 20 correct - I said 12%! Close but not close enough! I assumed 20 would be the least guessed one as that's what caught me out the most! But funnily enough I got that correct in the end and it was number 8 that I fell down on. Thanks to Mango for hosting - I really enjoyed taking part, and great to hear there could be another edition of Song Pictionary in the pipeline soon!
  2. Thanks for hosting Dan. I enjoyed taking part, and I am very happy with 12th place - I wasn't expecting to finish that high!
  3. Oh yes, good point about the exclusion rules meaning that the 76-100 positions remain intact. Thanks for the link to the correct Top 75 chart for the w/e 23 Dec 1995!
  4. Thanks for explaining the anomaly for numbers 9 and 10 on the chart for 23/12/1995 kingofskiffle. Now that you point it out, I see the extra Childliners entry at number 61 on the OCC site which I presume should be removed and all entries from 62-100 moved up a place (and the number 101 record promoted to 100). I see that in 2020, a user left a comment to this effect at the bottom of that particular 23 Dec 1995 chart, but over four years later, it still hasn't been updated on the OCC site. Now don't get me wrong - I still love the OCC site and I still think it's wonderful and full of information, but it's a shame these types of things aren't corrected.
  5. It also appears that numbers 9 and 10 for the chart of the week ending 23rd December 1995 have subsequently been swapped around from what they were originally announced as. It seems that "The Gift Of Christmas" by the Childliners was originally announced as a non-mover at 9 with "Wonderwall" by Oasis at 10. Now the OCC site, as well as the Top 40 Charts book (the Virgin one that goes up to the end of 2008) has "Wonderwall" at 9 and "The Gift of Christmas" down to 10 for that particular week, (the original two positions swapped around). The Virgin Top 40 Charts book has the new corrected version of the chart for w/e 6th January 1996 that jimwatts has referred to above, with those minor changes such as Not So Manic Now going in at 20 rather than 18. Funnily enough, the book still shows the original version of the chart for w/e 11th June 1994, so that particular chart must have been changed/revised at a later date than the 6/1/96 chart was. I remember discovering the discrepancy for this chart around 2016, so I suppose this new edited chart wasn't first made available until the OCC launched their big archive site the previous year, around the same time as the revised version of the infamous w/e 10th July 1999 chart was first made available. On the topic of the 10/7/99 chart, as well as the odd climb of the Sporty Thievz track in its second week as gooddelta mentioned above, "Get Ready" by Mase had a strange run for the time too, only falling from 32-36 in its second week, in an era where pretty much every track entering the chart in the 30s plummeted right out of the chart in its second week, meaning its first week sales/position was definitely understated, that it should have entered in the 20s than at 32. (As it turned out, it entered at 25). Interestingly the (always excellent) Polyhex site retains the charts for the 11/6/94 and 6/1/96 weeks as they were originally announced at the time, but has updated the 10/7/99 chart with the revised listing. It's always hard to know which version of the chart to use for those two weeks in '94 and '96 (does Melanie Williams really lose her top 40 status in the former chart and does "Low" by Cracker gain it?) as there was never an acknowledgement at the time that these charts were wrong. The problem with the July 1999 chart was hugely publicised at the time and it's widely known that the original chart that was in the public domain for 15 years was based on incomplete sales data, so it makes it easier to disregard the original chart and take the updated chart as the correct one in that case. And as a big Tina Cousins fan, I'm totally down with her having an extra Top 40 hit to her name!
  6. Well deserved winner! I have enjoyed following this thread and seeing the results of the vote. Thanks to Conor for running this poll and compiling the results.

  9. Thanks for hosting Gezza, it has been very interesting following the results of the vote on the thread! Very happy that Don't You Want Me, my 29-pointer finished up in second place, and great to see my 26-pointer Like A Prayer win! Like A Prayer is great, although Live To Tell is my absolute favourite Madonna 80s track (now THAT could have been a contender for my 30 points if it had topped the charts!)
  10. I didn't clock until just now how few number 1s there were in 2021! Only 12! Olivia, Ed and Adele really dominated the no.1 spot between the three of them throughout most of the year, didn't they! Here's my vote: +12 – Little Mix – Sweet Melody +10 – Olivia Rodrigo – Drivers License +9 – Adele – Easy On Me +8 – Elton John and Dua Lipa – Cold Heart +7 – Ed Sheeran – Shivers +6 – Lil Nas X – Montero (Call Me By Your Name) +5 – Ed Sheeran - Bad Habits +4 – Olivia Rodrigo – Good 4 U +3 – Nathan Evans, 220 Kid and Billen Ted – Wellerman +2 – Ed Sheeran and Elton John – Merry Christmas +1 - Russ Millions and Tion Wayne - Body 0 - LadBaby featuring Ed Sheeran and Elton John – Sausage Rolls For Everyone
  11. Great to see that Frozen (my 29-pointer!) won. It's such a brilliant song by Madonna and is my joint favourite of hers (along with Live To Tell), of course she's had some brilliant other tracks too! Don't Look Back In Anger is great too and a very worthy runner-up! Many thanks to Gezza for compiling and hosting this rate - it has been very enjoyable to follow as the results came in!
  12. A bit late to the party, but a shame to see my 30-pointer (Sinead O'Connor) just narrowly miss the top 10 in 11th place ... I honestly thought it would have made the top 10, but I guess missing out by just one place was close enough. Still a great top 10 overall! I still love Your Woman - I actually didn't even know that Dua Lipa had recently sampled it so that didn't have any bearing on my vote (yeah I know, I need to brush up on my present day pop knowledge!), I honestly just voted for what I saw as a very unique and memorable song that brings back some great memories for me. Stay is gorgeous and I am glad to see it so high. Believe and Baby One More Time are great songs too, and great to see all of them do so well in this rate. Looking forward to seeing which track will win!
  13. Oh dear, lost two records I rated highly, Earth Song and Eternal's I Wanna Be The Only One (which I gave 28 and 23 points to respectively!) Personally I loved Eternal, I thought they had some great songs that I loved in the 90s and that I still come back to quite often - and I totally agree that I Wanna Be The Only One is a song full of joy that never fails to put me in a good mood - got to love those key changes near the end! I had originally given MmmBop a couple of points but had no longer any room for it when I finalised my top 30 - so just narrowly missed out on my top 30 (you could say it was my no.31). A brief word on two recent dropouts that I voted for: Let Me Be Your Fantasy still sounds great and uplifting, while I have always loved Country House. Sacrifice is a beautiful song but I didn't have any room for it in my final top 30. Same goes for Show Me Heaven.
  14. Exactly - and especially when you get to the second half of the 90s and the rate of turnover at no1 really increased, there was so much diversity at the top of the chart and different styles of music making the top in quick succession (even though in a lot of cases it might have been just the one week at the top).
  15. Voted! ^_^ I had been chipping away on reducing the full list of songs down to a Top 30 over the last couple of weeks and I have finally settled on a Top 30 I'm happy with. I've had to be quite ruthless though and a lot of tracks I love and thought I'd surely include didn't make the cut in the end! So many great diverse songs hit the top spot in the 90s. Looking forward to seeing the results!
  16. Oh wow, I'm surprised but delighted that Somebody That I Used To Know topped this countdown! Even though I gave STIUTK 30 points, I still was expecting We Found Love (which is great too) to win. I'm very pleased to see that Buzzjack shares my love for Somebody That I Used To Know! I echo the point made that it is a unique and very memorable track that still sounds great. I heard it only yesterday and it still sounds just as good as it did in 2012. The video is amazing and so clever too! Thank you to Gezza for organising and compiling this countdown - it has been very interesting to follow over the last couple of months!
  17. Ooh, my 28 and 29-pointers gone in one fell swoop! I still love Rather Be and We Are Young - they're both fabulous songs and genuine 2010s classics!
  18. So I ended up joint 13th which I'm happy with really - I was hoping for a mid-table finish and that's what I got! (I knew I was never going to win!) Was a little bit surprised that George Ezra wasn't the most guessed number one based on how recent it is and its ubiquity, but I was also considering Dua Lipa as an answer to that question so I'm kicking myself for going with George and not with Dua! :drama: Thanks for hosting, Mango and congratulations to the winners! Very enjoyable quiz and it has reminded me of a few tunes I haven't listened to in a while!
  19. Entered. B-) Hoping I redeem myself somewhat in this quiz after flopping spectacularly in the Albums Covers quiz last week! I enjoyed taking part and am looking forward to the results.
  20. Ooh gawd, it's last place for me :o though I'm not surprised, I knew I'd done badly as soon as I submitted my answers! I'm kicking myself now seeing some of the album covers I missed that I should have got! But despite my wooden-spoon-taking last place finish (I'll just say I came 27th, that sounds better! :cheer:) I still enjoyed taking part in the quiz. Thank you Mango for running it and well done to all the winners, and hopefully I'll do better next time!
  21. Really enjoying following the results! So it seems I'm the sole voter for Dance With Me Tonight - a real catchy song by Olly and so hard to believe it will be 10 years old this year! I bought it at the time. I loved it and I had such a big crush on Olly (still do!) Quite surprised that "Good Feeling" by Flo Rida got no points - I still hear it quite a lot on the radio every now and then, and I heard it the other night on one of those "classic dance anthem" shows. Looking forward to the countdown progressing and seeing who makes the number 1 position (and whether it was my 30-pointer song!)
  22. I have to admit, although I got the Drake question correct, it was a guess (lucky guess!) for me. I got the Now/Grace Kelly by Mika question wrong which annoys me as I used to own a copy of that exact Now CD/play it a lot at the time it was released! But I sold it a few years later and just could not remember the number of the Now album. Really enjoyed taking part in that! Great quiz, thank you for hosting. I am pleased with 27th place!
  23. Votes just submitted via PM - it was quite tough to whittle down to my top 30 songs but I managed it! Looking forward to seeing the results.
  24. Well done to Blinding Lights winning out! It's really the song that defined 2020 for me. I still love it!
