Gareth Gates - Daily star today
Some good news for Gareths fans at last And yes, Dido certainly doesn't rush her albums out, but with her success and sales, the whole of the music industry will welcome her back 'without prejudice'. Sadly, I doubt that'll happen for Gareth, so for his sake, let's hope he's come up with something that'll knock Joe Mott and his ilk bandy. :D

Daily Will Rant Thread. (anything, happy? sad? or angry?)
Well you got that right :D The woman (I suppose it's a woman) is really something else. Whatever the beginning, the truth is, the public lost interest, he lost his recording contract, end of. She'll probably re-write history and claim that it was all a deliberate ploy on his part, he only took the contract for fun, he never wanted to be a recording artist in the first place and he's been taking part in one 5 year long documentary to highlight the pitfalls of the music industry (for the benefit of mankind of course.) :D

why another x factor series so soon?
Well, what can anyone say to all this except, I really hope that Darius doesn't feel as ashamed of his involvement with both these tv talents shows as you appear to do. ;)

why another x factor series so soon?
Well you've answered your own question haven't you. Darius & Hayley both entered Pop Stars, but if Darius only took part in a documentary with no wish to become part of the group, who am I to argue? Anyway, he and Hayley must have enjoyed the experience, cos there they were again, auditioning for PI. Shayne got to the final 20/30 in Pop Stars the Rivals, and likewise, must have enjoyed it, 'cos he came back for more. Will took part in This Morning search for a boyband, along with Andy Scott Lee and both of them like the others, came back for more. Maybe Lee Blue would have too had he not already signed to his group. The second bite of the cherry reference. They all auditioned, more than once, in front of a TV audience, whether it was a public vote or not.

Simon Fullers 19 still holds all the recording contracts, so they'd all have to give him a percentage of their music earnings. Will as the biggest earner, is obviously forking out the most. A few of the contestants have had more than 1 bite at similar cherries, Shayne & Darius to name two. It may not be perfect, the upper hand and the biggest slice of the cake going to the men in suits, but I bet none of the finalists really regret that they entered, if they do, they are free to turn their backs on it all and go back to earning their living doing what they did before.

Alisha's Attic
Yeah, she did, with Eg White (Leave Right Now writer). Lucie has supported Will in the past on his 2004 Summer tour. He seems to like to keep things in the family, so to speak ;)

Alisha's Attic
You forgot to mention that Karen is one of Wills mates and often writes with him :D

why another x factor series so soon?
Why do we need a British version of Kelly Clarkson or Pink? Part of Shayne's blurb last year was that he could be the UK's answer to Justin Timberlake. All of these US stars are global, we've got them over here, why do we need clones of 'em? If they really really want to have a genuine winner, then they should be looking for a unque talent, anything else, and it's the poor mans version of Stars in their Eyes.

Daily News, Gossip and Chat.
Thank goodness that Will has chosen not to put all his eggs into one basket. Whether he was acting or not, we'd have still been waiting a couple of years for the next album and the whole music industry could change beyond recognition by then, there's no guarantee that Will would have another million seller. Artists are being hyped to hell & back at the moment and then fading when the next overhyped one comes along. It's complete madness, they're all becoming like the latest must have trainers or the new style mobile phones ;)

Daily News, Gossip and Chat.
I remember reading that 5 years ago, when PI was aired, no one in the music industry had any idea where new talent was going to come from. Signing up bands was easy, they're always playing small time gigs somewhere or other, but solo artists, even when they sent off demos, they were 99% sure to have them slung in the bin without rating a listen. No one wanted to invest money in nurturing a complete unknown singer. Nowadays, just in the last year really, singers, groups, uncle Tom Cobbley and all, are all over the net. If they get enough hits on their web site, then a label will take the risk, the works done for them, that makes XFactor finalists even less significant. The TV shows entertaining, the end result is all rather pointless now. I don't think even established artists who have failed with their last albums are going to find a way back in now. There's literally loads of singer songwriters out there who could be the next big thing, why try and flog old faces that have failed to the public again.

Airplay Top 50, 13/08/06
I don't think massive album sellers like the Scissor Sisters would bother too much if the single doesn't make no.1. It must be all about advertising the album surely, the single acting as a lost leader.

The Puppini Sisters
According to a post on Wills OS, it was record label politics that caused them to have to pull out.

Shayne Ward - Stand by me
Oh yes, I do agree, but I think maybe you're talking about a couple of specific acts not receiving airplay. Shayne certainly hasn't, although he is on R2 b list. His fans were complaining that even a certain Manchester DJ wasn't playing Stand By Me, even though he likes Shayne. The fact is, the song's dated and probably doesn't fit in with the styles of some DJs slots. Just for the record, Shakira hasn't been getting much airplay either (at no.38, her highest yet this week) doesn't seem to have harmed her sales much, does it? ;)
-
Shayne Ward - Stand by me
I have to disagree with you there Val. Just look at our charts and the wide variety of acts that are selling on them. From a host of Indie bands to the likes of Lily, Sandie and Norah, to rock acts, James Blunt types and unfortunately the odd US rapper for those that way inclined. If that isn't listening to a wide range of talent, I don't know what is. I think we can all be excused for not wanting a trip down memory lane with a dated Shayne type solo though, nothing to do with his talent, just a dire choice of material.

Shayne Ward - Stand by me
Well yes, but here it is again, Gareth was successful you say, but I'm asking HOW SUCCESSFUL?
-
Shayne Ward - Stand by me
We do keep being told that Gareth made it big in Asia a few years back, exactly how big I wonder. Obviously not big enough to keep his deal with SBMG intact and without a UK or US deal, it doesn't really mean a hill of beans does it? I'm sure Shayne would much prefer to secure his position in the UK first before branching further afield.

It was a BMW he bought :D , or did he? We haven't seen it again since, and it just seems a bit strange to have 2 sports convertibles. Maybe he traded in the Audi but I'd a thought he'd have got something more non descript.

Pop Idol 1
No, Wills grandfather had died the year before PI. I think the pressure just got to Will that week it was a rollercoaster of emotions is how he describes it in his book and I'm not surprised really. I think both Will & Darius, being older & wiser, had cottoned on to the fact that the show was being steered towards a win for someone other than them and when you're trying your hardest it must be soul destroying to have this happen. Probably a feeling that whatever they did, they weren't going to win so was it all worth it? Still it all worked out in the end, thanks to the voting public, but it could't have been easy for the contestants.

How Many #2s have there been?
Yeah it was a good track and even better that it reached no.2 but not no.1 that particular week

WILL -IS NOT SUPPORTING MADONNA
But it's not happening Lifelight, It was a rumour in a SA newspaper that Madonna's people have denied.

Thank you very, very much for translating all that for us Lifelight The piece that interested me was about being experimental. I'd really love to know if he is going to release anything with Groove Armada because I think this is the way Will can experiment without perhaps laying his own work on the line. ;)

Lily Allen Topics Before Forum
Not necessarily, but I think someone that's actually been in the business for a little more than a week and 2 days, which is in fact the length of time she's had anything to offer the punters and get a return on. ;)

Artists Forum League Tables.
I don't think you need to talk do you? Just click onto the forum maybe  Whatever, a remark passed about the disparity between posts & views seems to have them slightly paranoid and the usual guff about whatever (well us lot I think), who cares , no one apart from a few over there anyways

Lily Allen Topics Before Forum
I watched her on TOTP and felt like I was a victim of a very clever con trick. It's all very artful & subtle, from the simple lyrics, little girl vocals, coy glances to one side and the trainers with 50's style dresses that look to become her trademark. A very good bit of manufacturing, the equal to anything that's gone before with 'not what you know, but who you know' playing a major part by the looks of it. The real pity though is, Lily is grabbing all the limelight this week when a real find, someone with real talent is being virtually ignored. What a shame, Paulo Nutini, is likely along with James Morrison, to be two of the best male vocalists to hit the scene in the last couple of years. ;)

Paolo Nutini - Last Request
I hope he does very well 'cos I like this guys voice very much. Not a big fan of the video to be honest, but a good song nonetheless
