It was a bit hard to judge Jonathans vocal abilities on the strength of the couple of lines that he sang, but certainly, the XFactor was very apparent. He doesn't need any sob story, so Simon, button it, and let Jonathan do it on his own, he might just prove to have what's been sadly lacking from these shows since the first PI. Anyway, I digress, so back to the topic in hand.

I doubt he's 'done a runner'. ;) It's probably just an unfortunate bit of bad timing that the site's gone down.

Didn't he barter his autograph for a sausage sarnie when he was on a radio tour a couple of years ago? I think it was in Birmingham and he'd driven himself there, stopped at the market on route ('cos he got lost I think) and did the trade off :D

Please God no, never let us resort to talking piffle, drivel or downright b******t in order to boost the count or delude ourselves or anyone else for that matter. If Wills career ever goes pear shaped like some, then I hope we can hold our heads up, remember the good times and face it with the honesty that we know our man will.

Think we're going to have to make the most of these magic moments 'cos we could then have a 2003 type drought for most of 2007 into 2008 :cry:

Well I suppose it's the Ostrich syndrome. As individuals, they probably face the reality of whats happened, but on sites like these, it's almost like one of those religious sects where if one person says that something is fact, the others follow like sheep and convince themselves it is fact. It's really quite dangerous and it does give an insight how distorted the truth can become when a handful of people refuse to accept it. To be honest, none of the players are important enough to matter. If they're happy in the make believe they've invented, then they're more to be pitied than blamed. Just lets be thankful that it's nothing to do with us. ;)

To be honest, I don't know why I even bother to get involved in any debate with that lot. I care as much about Darius & Gareth as the rest of the British public do (which is zilch, yesterdays men, who no one gives a toss about ;) ) and as for what they think, I care even less :D Note to self: When bored, watch paint dry, it's infinitely more interesting :P

It's not what I think about commercial success, it's what the label thinks about it. Does anyone honestly believe that the likes of SBMG see an up and coming young singer and think 'Bless, he's cute, not a bad voice, nice bloke, let's give him a contract and let him have his dream'? Of course they don't, they look at the guy and think 'How much money can we make out of him'. We're not discussing a charitable and altruistic entity, we're discussing a multi national, multi million pound industry with share holders to answer to and worse still, an industry where there's a never ending supply of young kids, willing to sell their grandmothers, just to get a contract from them.

I tell you what Val, when I see half a dozen or so labels beating a path to Gareths door, contracts in hand, I'll take it all back OK? ;) I've no more idea than you have about Gareths future, 19 management appear to have a deal that works with SBMG (It no longer includes Cowells SYCO records) so why that same deal wouldn't work for Gareth is a mystery. Gareths album is a done deal, (working with 19, their producers their writers, it's been made without the input of SBMG obviously) all Gareth needed is a label who would produce , manufacture and distribute the c.ds (at a profit ) that SBMG have not taken up their option again really has nothing to do with whatever the content of the album is surely, other than their belief that they don't see a profit in it for them or their shareholders. When the likes of some of the biggest music artists in the World have to comply to their labels wishes in order to get their music out there, then no, I'm not willing to believe that someone who's had an underperforming second album, would have the clout to dismiss one of the biggest labels in the World and expect offeres to pour in from all sides. And this is not a personal attack on Gareth, far from it. The music industry is cut throat. Lee Ryan and Duncan James are going to be in Gareths position, their albums haven't performed well, would you honestly believe that either of them would tell SBMG to stkick their contracts 'cos offers would be pouring in?

Perhaps if we had any idea how many sales equal platinum in Asian countries, we might get a clearer picture as to how many in total Gareths last album sold. I can't see it possibly being anywhere near the required British 300k otherwise SBMG would be biting Gareths hand off to get the next album release I bet.

Some good news for Gareths fans at last And yes, Dido certainly doesn't rush her albums out, but with her success and sales, the whole of the music industry will welcome her back 'without prejudice'. Sadly, I doubt that'll happen for Gareth, so for his sake, let's hope he's come up with something that'll knock Joe Mott and his ilk bandy. :D

Well you got that right :D The woman (I suppose it's a woman) is really something else. Whatever the beginning, the truth is, the public lost interest, he lost his recording contract, end of. She'll probably re-write history and claim that it was all a deliberate ploy on his part, he only took the contract for fun, he never wanted to be a recording artist in the first place and he's been taking part in one 5 year long documentary to highlight the pitfalls of the music industry (for the benefit of mankind of course.) :D

Well, what can anyone say to all this except, I really hope that Darius doesn't feel as ashamed of his involvement with both these tv talents shows as you appear to do. ;)

Well you've answered your own question haven't you. Darius & Hayley both entered Pop Stars, but if Darius only took part in a documentary with no wish to become part of the group, who am I to argue? :rolleyes: Anyway, he and Hayley must have enjoyed the experience, cos there they were again, auditioning for PI. Shayne got to the final 20/30 in Pop Stars the Rivals, and likewise, must have enjoyed it, 'cos he came back for more. Will took part in This Morning search for a boyband, along with Andy Scott Lee and both of them like the others, came back for more. Maybe Lee Blue would have too had he not already signed to his group. The second bite of the cherry reference. They all auditioned, more than once, in front of a TV audience, whether it was a public vote or not.

Simon Fullers 19 still holds all the recording contracts, so they'd all have to give him a percentage of their music earnings. Will as the biggest earner, is obviously forking out the most. A few of the contestants have had more than 1 bite at similar cherries, Shayne & Darius to name two. It may not be perfect, the upper hand and the biggest slice of the cake going to the men in suits, but I bet none of the finalists really regret that they entered, if they do, they are free to turn their backs on it all and go back to earning their living doing what they did before.

Yeah, she did, with Eg White (Leave Right Now writer). Lucie has supported Will in the past on his 2004 Summer tour. He seems to like to keep things in the family, so to speak ;)

You forgot to mention that Karen is one of Wills mates and often writes with him :D

Why do we need a British version of Kelly Clarkson or Pink? Part of Shayne's blurb last year was that he could be the UK's answer to Justin Timberlake. All of these US stars are global, we've got them over here, why do we need clones of 'em? If they really really want to have a genuine winner, then they should be looking for a unque talent, anything else, and it's the poor mans version of Stars in their Eyes.

Thank goodness that Will has chosen not to put all his eggs into one basket. Whether he was acting or not, we'd have still been waiting a couple of years for the next album and the whole music industry could change beyond recognition by then, there's no guarantee that Will would have another million seller. Artists are being hyped to hell & back at the moment and then fading when the next overhyped one comes along. It's complete madness, they're all becoming like the latest must have trainers or the new style mobile phones ;)

I remember reading that 5 years ago, when PI was aired, no one in the music industry had any idea where new talent was going to come from. Signing up bands was easy, they're always playing small time gigs somewhere or other, but solo artists, even when they sent off demos, they were 99% sure to have them slung in the bin without rating a listen. No one wanted to invest money in nurturing a complete unknown singer. Nowadays, just in the last year really, singers, groups, uncle Tom Cobbley and all, are all over the net. If they get enough hits on their web site, then a label will take the risk, the works done for them, that makes XFactor finalists even less significant. The TV shows entertaining, the end result is all rather pointless now. I don't think even established artists who have failed with their last albums are going to find a way back in now. There's literally loads of singer songwriters out there who could be the next big thing, why try and flog old faces that have failed to the public again.

I don't think massive album sellers like the Scissor Sisters would bother too much if the single doesn't make no.1. It must be all about advertising the album surely, the single acting as a lost leader.

I thought Chris Evans was on Radio2, has he got a slot on Radio! as well? :unsure:
