Will Young - Who Am I (Out Physically 24/4)
I would have liked to see him get is 10th straight top 5 single, but not this time I think. It's a great song, had it been the first or second release, no probs, but the album has sold loads and Who Am I has been available for download for 5 months, so it ain't gonna happen. It's doing it's job though, selling the album, getting plenty of airplay and raising Wills profile for the upcoming tour

Gareth Gates & BMG Part Company
When any artist has a recording contract worth X amount of pounds, that is money up front to cover all the recording costs plus promotion and every other costs such as transport, clothes etc. needed for that promotion. The bigger the contract value, the better the co-writers & producers and the more promtion etc. that buys. Now, the downside is, the label will want to recover all of that up front contract money and then some. So, the word was that Will had a £500k contract for Keep On. According to Robbie Williams, the label make 3 quid clear profit per album. Will has sold well over 700k in physical sales of Keep On, making a profit for BMG of over £2.1 million pounds. Add to that his downloads, which were Sony/BMG biggest selling of 2005 and you see why Will will get a further contract with BMG for album no.4. If they can't re-coup the up front money from the artist and are in to a big loss situation, there's very little chance of that artist ever getting a second bite of the cherry, unless of course, the label spent next to nothing on them in the first place.

Will & Gareth were on his S label straight after PI. Looks like that was a 2 album deal only. I think Simon Fuller is too shrewd to tie his acts up for too long without renegotiating. Wills last album didn't have the S logo on it anymore, but we knew he'd got a new 500k deal with Sony/BMG for Keep on early last year. He's used most of the big labels for his other acts, Spice Girls, S Club, Rachel Stevens etc., so he doesn't restrict himself to one record company, obviously looking for the best deal to get his percentage from ;)

Licenced from 19, all Simon Fullers PI acts are.

Gareth Gates & BMG Part Company
Simon Fuller has a reputation for being very loyal to his people. 19 have Gareths recording contract & management contract so they'll be looking around for a new deal for him I'm sure.

It's not just Vic Newton though is it? There's obviously been a press release from 19, but Miss Newton has grabbed the chance to slant the story as she sees fit

Shayne Ward - No Promises
I think Shayne's biggest problem is that his manager and record label are firmly routed in the last century, when boybands reigned supreme and Cowell could make stars out of anyone who appeared on tv, from Robson & Greene to Zig & Zag. It's been a bad 18 months for solo male artists anyway, with a couple of exceptions. Indy bands are the in thing now, anyone with a finger on the music pulse, should be looking for the next big band, not going back in time and looking for the new Robbie Williams, George Michael or whoever It's not Shaynes fault and he's probably going to be quite successful this year, thanks to 3 months of the biggest tv promo available. But Cowell & Walsh should be looking for something fresh & innovative for him, not a rehash of 1999's Westlife material. There's is a tired old formula and they're making the mistake of thinking a nice voice, and good looks are going to cover the cracks.

Shayne Ward Album
Well if Shayne's ugly, gawd help the rest of us is all I can say. His looks don't appeal to me, but I can recognise the fact that he's a good looking bloke, just not my type 'tis all :D

Shayne Ward Album
We all follow artists for different reasons and for me, however many times I see Will promote a song, I know it's going to be a slightly different version every time. Sometimes it's better than others but that's part of the excitement. Even for Will, I would not tune into the obligatory TV shows, just to watch him opening and shutting his mouth in time to his c.d. :P Yesterday, the lovely Gene Pitney died. He'd been around ever since I could remember, great artist, great songs, but I have one very sad abiding memory of him which always comes to mind. Some years ago, he appeared on Richard & Judy to promote his new song or tour or something. He was supposed to be singing live from a boat in the Albert dock, only he wasn't. The music started, Gene didn't. He was standing there, waiting for his cue that never came. It's been shown many times since on 'It'll be alright on the night' type shows and I'm sure many people have laughed their socks off at his predicament. A great singer, a great songwriter, didn't deserve that. It would have been oh so different, if only he had sung live that day as he always had done before and probably since. :(

Shayne Ward Album
I'm sure he'll be absolutely fine. His fans will be buying into Shayne the singer this time around, the music will matter more when he releases album 2. Every artist from these Tv talent shows has done well initially and even those who've now disappeared, have realised a dream and have earnt more in a few months, than a lot of us would earn in years. Who knows, his second album could be critically acclaimed, multi platinum selling, or bomb, only time will tell, but for the moment, I would think he's pretty happy with his situation.

Gareth Gates & BMG Part Company
I'm very open to any other suggestions val4jaden, if there's something you'd like to tell us, why don't you? As I said, I was replying specifically to Nosiers post, I've absolutely no idea as to what's been going on with Gareth, only what she said, and that was 'it's common knowledge that 19 have been financing this album'

Shayne Ward - No Promises
They ask for an address if you fill in those little forms in the c.d. cases. That might account for me never getting any artist info, 'cos I've never filled one in. :D I am registered on Wills official site though, and I still never get anything, not even an e-mail.

Shayne Ward - No Promises
Yep, he'll definitely get to no.1, the album will too, and the next single release after that. I think he'll mirror the success that Will & Gareth had 4 years ago in his first year, but the jury's out on what'll happen to him after the inevitable break to come up with album no.2.

Shayne Ward - No Promises
Have I missed the bit when someone said they detested Shayne? Don't put words in other peoples posts Baytree, That's s***stirring and totally uncalled for. It's a perfectly legitimate discussion about Shaynes promotion, and your entitled to put your view. There's no need for the rudeness directed at other members here.

Well that's probably because you're registered on his site, or is it just D you're a member of? Whatever, you got my share, 'cos I didn't receive a single one

Gareth Gates & BMG Part Company
Had you read my earlier post Nosier, you would have noticed that I had stated that BMG were not lying, that they could hardly admit to dropping him from a recording contract that they never held in the first place. ;) BTW, my assumptions are based entirely on what you said, i.e that 19 were financing this album. As they hadn't done that in the past, then either the contract between 19 & Sony/BMG as regards Gareth, had come to an end or Sony/BMG chose not to.
-
Gareth Gates & BMG Part Company
If your information is correct that 19 have been financing this album, then it's safe to assume that Sony/BMG severed their ties with Gareth long ago, otherwise they'd have financed it surely? Whether Gareth only ever had a 2 album deal with S records is a possibility, but it seems the media weren't far wrong when the original story first broke over a year ago.

I kinda miss the Darius forum too, like I miss toothache :D Funnily enough, I'd been sitting on my hands, trying not to respond to something on there, when CC disappeared in a puff of smoke. I blame it on that ;)

Gareth Gates & BMG Part Company
Well actually, no it isn't. Darius would be looking for a label to finance the writing & recording of an album up front. Had he been an unknown, then he would have gone to the labels with demos etc. but he wasn't. Established artists do change labels of course and depending on how successful they've been ,determines the value of their contract. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that Darius is financing his own album, but that's a massive risk. Producers, co-writers, musicians and studio time costs hundreds of thousands of pounds and with no guarantee of an eventual release, it could cost him plenty. Mark Owen does it, Mel C & Mick Hucknall, to name a few, but they've earned miliions in their time and can afford it. I don't think Darius is in quite the same league yet. The same can be said for Gareth. Has he financed his own album? Perhaps he's had financial help from Simon Fuller, but with the news that he & SONY/BMG have parted company before a 3rd album release, it seems that they've not been involved with him for quite some time, certainly they couldn't have made any investment in his new album, otherwise thay'd be looking to recoup something back.

Gareth Gates & BMG Part Company
They're not assumptions val4jaden they're facts. Take a look at one of the Gareth c.ds you own. It'll be marked very clearly on there, '19 recordings, under exclusive license to (probably Ronagold (like Will) part of the BMG company).
-
Gareth Gates & BMG Part Company
Gareths recording contract is, and has always been with 19 recordings. Hence, BMGs wording was accurate, they can hardly drop him from a contract that they haven't got with him. Their agreement, with 19, was to release him under license. Sony/BMG put up the money and they manufacture & distribute the discs and make money for the company in the process. They obviously feel it would not be economically viable to continue with the agreement and have called a halt to proceedings. Much the same happened with Darius and his label last year. Darius and Gareth still have recording contracts, what they don't have now, is a label who'll manufacture, bank roll & distribute their music. How easy it'll be to find a label who will, is another matter.

Rubbish follow up album, sophomore disasters, career killing
Daniel Bedingfield. His first album went 5 or 6 times platinum and spawned a couple of massive singles and yet he didn't register at all when he came back last year. I don't really understand what happened and how he lost that amount of support so quickly.

Shayne Ward - No Promises
Joe Mott in todays Star is asking all the radio DJs with any influence, to promote the Gnarls Berkeley track, to get it to no.1 instead of Shayne. All a bit childish really, people will buy what they want to buy, whether Joe Mott & co. like it or not.
