  1. There's a lot of room between "entire album in UK top 20" and "career over, people have moved on" - let's learn some nuance please because people clearly haven't entirely moved on from Ed when his tour collection has been top 10 almost every week since it came out, proving a strong interest in his back catalogue, and the new single is possibly on for a UK top 5 debut. Not as big as before? Sure, but there's clearly still a lot of interest in him.

  4. This is an insane take when the = album had six top 10 hits (+ Celestial, Merry Christmas, Afterglow, Peru and Bam Bam feature on various editions of it), and the only single pushed from - was a #1 hit. I know Autumn Variations happened in the middle but I think it's fair to say that wasn't released with much expectation commercially, especially on the single side of things - American Town wasn't released before the album, had weak playlisting, no physicals and no official music video. There's no reason to write Ed off even if there's a reasonable expectation for him to perform less well, off the bat, than with Bad Habits and Eyes Closed.
  5. Not Ed "underperforming" before the Spotify update even comes in. Take a day off y'all x
  6. Not quite - her Running Up That Hill cover had charted at #100 a few months before (though still not her debut single anyway).
  7. Technically Olivia Rodrigo debuted at #1 with her debut single (drivers license), though of course, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series track All I Want had already made the chart at #72 (of course it later peaked at #32) so it wasn't actually her first hit. Debut singles even charting has become an increasingly rare phenomenon as the industry has become the long game. Many artists accumulate a fanbase and decent streaming totals over a series of singles that find their way onto playlists on streaming platforms, and they can do this without even getting a chart hit. In the current UK top 100, the only debut singles (primary artist only) to feature are: Adele - Hometown Glory ( though even this didn't chart on its initial limited release, peaked on re-release) Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing ( ) The Killers - Mr. Brightside ( also charted on re-release) IN PARALLEL - NOW IT'S GONE Skye Newman - Hairdresser Which is a little bleak when the only two that aren't ancient are pretty low down and don't seem to be making particular gains towards the top 40 yet. If we widen the field to look at songs in the top 100 that were their respective artist's first charting song: WizTheMc & bees & honey - Show Me Love Ravyn Lenae - Love Me Not Leon Thomas - MUTT Chrystal - The Days Chappell Roan - Good Luck, Babe! sombr - back to friends Ely Oaks - Running Around Morgan Seatree feat. Florence + the Machine - Say My Name Sleep Token - Emergence Sydney Rose - We Hug Now KiLLOWEN - pick your poison Journey - Don't Stop Believin' ( ) BL3SS & CamrinWatsin feat. bbyclose - Kisses Which makes it look a bit better, there are still new artists managing to break through, it just shows how much time it can take now, and how the TikTok algorithm and what songs go viral can really make a difference.
  8. I don't think they were pushed to radio at all, because Capital have always been huge Anne-Marie supporters and nothing there either. Also wouldn't think she'd be a veteran artist given she debuted around the same time as Dua Lipa, Alarm wasn't even 10 years ago.
  9. The two songs she released earlier in the year weren't pushed - neither song had even one play on Radio 1 (according to their last.fm), even Capital didn't playlist either song, and no Spotify support. I'm not really sure what the strategy is with these mini EPs but given the last song of hers as a primary artist to get a proper single push was UNHEALTHY, then I don't think her hitmaking days are behind her with the right song and perhaps a relevant feature.
  10. +5 Benson Boone - Beautiful Things +4 Tate McRae - Sports Car +3 Doechii - Anxiety +2 Ariana Grande - Twilight Zone +1 Sabrina Carpenter - Busy Woman -1 Chappell Roan - Pink Pony Club -2 Chappell Roan - The Giver -3 Drake - Nokia -4 Alex Warren - Carry You Home -5 Alex Warren - Ordinary
  11. I've turned this feature on so vote editing should be allowed now! I've gone for Benson, Tate (Sports car) and Gaga.
  12. Miley's hit and miss for me but this is definitely a hit for me, love how nostalgic it feels.
  13. This is effortlessly catchy, was in my head after one play, and the production is very infectious too. Definitely his best since Celestial for me (and Shivers before that).
  14. Two more songs out on 11th April!

My takers this week! Michael Schulte - Afterlife Cher Lloyd - Green Light (though I preferred the last single a fair bit) Albums Knox - Going, Going, Gone (this hasn't let me down at all, early faves are Happy Ever After All, Now & Then and the title track) Casey Lowery - Lekkerland (intrigued to see if his bid for a UK chart position can pay off this week) Djo - The Crux (will be hearing this ASAP but the two singles were promising)
