Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1995 before moving to Australia, the actor, singer and songwriter already displayed a natural command of the stage at 11 years old, when he performed at his first in a series of local telethons in Perth. After graduating to popular online videos and coming out publicly as gay at age 18, Sivan pursued film and theatre acting in tandem with the honey-coated synth-pop of his 2015 debut album, Blue Neighbourhood. The 2018 follow-up Bloom took him to a new level of international fame, thanks to the Ariana Grande duet “Dance to This”, sex-positive club hit “My My My!” and other upbeat departures from his more melancholy debut. “I’d go into the studio and think, ‘What am I sad about?’” Sivan told Apple Music at the time of the album’s release. “And it just wasn’t there. So I started writing these lighter, happier songs.” He leaned even further in that direction with “Rush”, the lead single from his 2023 album Something to Give Each Other. I could accept the Sound of Girls Aloud songs being on Chemistry's deluxe, but Ten's songs going onto Out of Control's deluxe would feel so wrong to me! I'd hope for a Ten deluxe release, I'm sure they wouldn't miss having a greatest hits out on vinyl.

Thursday's episode was the best of the week, I found. Character-based drama, no strings. Totally agree with the love for Priya and Jean sharing scenes, they're a surprisingly great duo, and Penny getting more airtime is always good in my eyes, she's been severely underused (as is Vinny though I'm still not finding him much use sadly). Joel and Lily's blossoming friendship could be great to see more of, too.

Not playing an artist isn't the same as blacklisting. Capital have a target audience, and most (not all) rap songs don't tend to appeal to what they consider to be their listener base's tastes. Ella Langley surely falls into that bracket too, being a country musician. Capital almost entirely play pop and dance.

Dai Dai would have been a #1, it just got unlucky colliding with the week Rein Me In broke the record, so Sam campaigned more than he otherwise would have to keep the #1 spot and it got snatched out of Shakira's hands at the eleventh hour. Shakira's obviously not too worried about the UK market though, and it's surpassed everyone's expectations regardless, so I'm happy with how it's done.
