  1. It was inevitable a song would do this at some point but its a massive achievement nonetheless

Not sure people asking Alex questions between songs would be great for him. He's an excellent performer but if you've ever seen him being interviewed that could end up being famous for all the wrong reasons
  3. #38 Broken Wings by The Stargazers/b] Debut: 19 February 1959 Peak: 01 WoC: 12 Chart Run: 11 (B) 12-7-6-7-8-2-1-3-6-8-12 iNl9kNhq3TM The first of 3 UK #1 songs for The Stargazers and 9 #UK Top 40s. I absolutely loathe these guys so don't expect gushing write ups/detailed ones for the utter trash they've subjected me to listen to in researching this thread. Worryingly this is one of their better tunes. Whatever the record buying public were smoking in the early 50s I'd like some...

People maybe not quite as in the Christmas mood on Monday as they were on Sunday....
  5. Adele now has 12 of the Top 15 on Spotify

They might get better overall viewership but I'd imagine advertisers would pay more target younger demographics as so few watch TV now. A
  7. I don't mind LadBaby doing their thing for charity but they could at least come up with a new joke.
  8. I absolute f***ing hated this the first time I heard this but it's actually growing me.
  9. Streams around Christmas are still larger than any other time of year - although given that usually incorporates the chart after the Christmas week that covers Christmas Day and Christmas Eve, it's arguable the new year one is a bigger deal these days.

Imagine telling someone when Candle in the Wind came out this was a real quote from a Christmas chart battle said in seriousness....
  11. Ah fair enough. Happens not to be one I'd heard of. #37 Now by Al Martino Debut: 5 February 1953 Peak: #3 WoC: 12 Chart Run: 10-9-7-6-4-5-4-3-5-3-4-8 JoXRhxVrNsk Now we move onto one of a number of slightly less successful hits from the man who gave us the UK's first number one. It was however still a pretty decent success clocking in at 12 consecutive weeks on the chart and peaking at #3. Released after Al Martino had moved to Britain to get away from people he described as 'bad guys' who claimed he owed them thousands of pounds - American mafia men - who were demanding a safeguarding payment from, it's notable along with several more of hits from this era for not charting in the US. It would be 1959 before he was able to move back to America after negotiating a deal - allegedly without paying the supposed debt. He took full advantage of his British popularity and notability of being the first person to have hit on the chart to record and tour in the UK throughout the 50s
  12. Adele's streaming numbers will presumably get a big boost today (in tomorrow's numbers) thanks to the ITV special. I'd imagine a fair few kids/young adults who stream watched it with their parents. We really need to see some uptick in Spotify numbers for ITV and the labels to consider making An Audience With regular
  13. Surely definition at least one of your marriages is unsuccessful if you have more than one. Seems Eddie was quite the lothario. I hadn't actually clocked him being Carrie Fisher's dad though until you mentioned Debbie Reynolds.

Except labels probably would rather push young guns Bieber might be a good shout

Only 4.4m for Adele. Probably going to need to do well on catch up if they plan on bringing the format back regularly. Comfortably beaten by Strictly and Im a celeb
  16. I was thinking the opposite that because she's one of the few artists who does insane physicals, she might have been better leading up with 3-4 singles dropping separately then the album. I could have seen her get 1.5-2.0m for dropping a second single.
  17. That's an impressive level of chart mediocrity.
  18. He deserves it but it would be unusual for the Brits to be that progressive.

The audience with special was absolutely brilliant from start to finish. These things are always a bit cloying to the artists involved, but it certainly didn't feel sycophantic as a certain bitter presenter has tweeted. I took advantage to skip some of the celeb questioning, although the ones I did watch seemed fairly decent questions and stuff the audience at home might actually care about. I really hope ITV do more of these with other artists but it's hard to think of names big enough to carry these off. There's a few American names I can think of like Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran could probably do one if it was soon before his star fades and then you're looking at bands from earlier in the 2000s like The Killers, (I know their American but there adoptive Brits), Arctic Monkeys or Coldplay probably (who likely wouldn't do this kind of thing as it doesn't fit their image) but I'd imagine some of the magic would be lost (all American's seem to have done the original run, I don't really remember them to be honest. I've seen a repeat of the Al Murray pub landlord ones and that's about it). But most current pop stars don't really have name recognition outside their own fans, and those that do don't have enough material behind them yet to do this. Glad to hear that the audience wasn't entirely celebs as well.
  20. Going to watch it on the hub when it appears. Hopefully it rates well and encourages them to do more things like this with other pop stars. I know most of them aren't anywhere near as big as Adele but it'd give them something good on a Sunday night.
  21. #36 Eddie Fisher - Everything I Have Is Yours Debut: 29 January 1953 Peak: 8 WoC: 5 Chart Run: 12 (B) - 8-9-11-10 dycjZzZpp38 Another hit song for Eddie Fisher, and another beautiful one at that. It was also a minor hit in the US peaking at #23. The pop standard dates back to 1933 and was originally song by Art Jannet in Dancing Lady - a pre-Code film featuring Fred Astaire. The music was written by Bunton Lane and lyrics by Harold Adamson.
  22. The weeks on end bit won't though, Christmas is coming.
  23. You can, play the first song and then shuffle. She's asked them to change the button at the top from shuffle to play the album, which is what it should have been.
  24. I don't think so, there's always been singles artists and album artists. A lot of people would have only bought singles - or just not bought music - even in the vinyl days.

Shame all the smaller artists who've been moaning about this for years. Playing an album in order is just common sense, and anyone who wants to listen to a random selection can skip to them!! (This was only ever an issue on the mobile version iirc though)
