Eskimo Callboy - We Got The Moves
This honestly just sounds like what Germany should have sent to Eurovision.

Glass Animals - I Don't Wanna Talk (I Just Wanna Dance)
Absolutely loving this, shame Heat Waves is having a rebound as they release this as I think it would have a real chance of Top 40.

1950s Hits: Song by Song
Yes I did, the missing track is High Noon (Do Not Forsake Me) by Frankie Laine, I'll add it to tonight's update. That should get us back on track.

1950s Hits: Song by Song
Two for the price of one today as we missed yesterday. #10 Guy Mitchell - Feet Up (Pat Him on the Po Po) Debut: 14 November 1952 Peak: #2 WoC: 10 Run: 5-2-5-5-4-4-4-4-5-7 noj9p4wnhPQ This a fairly self-explanatory song the lyrics are about a good-for-nothing lowlife putting his life in order for the sake of his newborn son. The title refers to the old traditional of spanking a newborn baby to ensure that it's drawing breath. He talks about the things he's done in the past like drinking, gambling. womanising and fighting and how he's going to give it all up for the sake of his son. It's a really lovely song about the transition between young adulthood and parenthood. #11 Bing Crosby - The Isle of Innisfree Debut: 14 November 1952 Peak: #3 WoC: 12 Run: 4-4-6-4-3-3-3-5-4-5-7-11 _OMf85u94Fc It may come as a suprise to some but Bing Crosby did write songs other than White Christmas which we'll get to later on I'm sure. The song was written about Ireland by Dick Farelly while he was on a visit home to County Meath where he was from - the song is not about the same place as Yeats poem 'The Lake of Innisfree' as often though - either way it's a beautiful patriotic homage to all of Ireland from an Irishman sung by an American as the them to an American film The Quiet Man, is this where the American romanticism of Ireland started to get out of hand?

Thank God. The right decision. We all knew this was the end point anyway. Interesting that this gets ditched on freshers week as soon as they realised bullying young people won't work.

1950s Hits: Song by Song
#9 Rosemary Clooney - Half As Much Debut: 14 November 1952 Peak: #3 Woc: 9 Run: 6-3-3-7-3-5-5-6-7 6iX3z5toR08 Another track that had a solid run on the chart, if I was to be slightly overly upbeat I could rave about it spending 9 weeks in the Top 10 but I'm sure that's a bit disingenuously flattering when the chart only consists of a Top 12, and as we'll see from the songs that will follow this, not all that uncommon in this era. Rosemary Clooney is of course mother to George however she was a famous singer and actress in her own right, particularly in America but also in the United Kingdom, we'll see her in this journey a few more times in the 1950s as she had hits both on her own and with the band the Mellomen. The song was originally a hit for Hank Williams in 1952 - reaching No 1 on the Billboard Country Chart, but Rosemary would take her version to the masses and achieve a No 1 hit on the US Pop Chart, unfortunately for her in the UK - No 3 was the peak she could manage in the UK on this song, although she would later score 2 No 1 hits with 'This Ole House' and 'Mambo Italiano' at the peak of her charting powers in 1954.

Ed Sheeran - Shivers
Definitely going straight to No 1 but at least this time it'll be on merit rather than because it's Ed like Bad Habits.

1950s Hits: Song by Song
#8 Vera Lynn - Forget Me Not Debut: 14 November 1952 Peak: #5 WoC: 6 Runs: 7 (B) 7-6-5-10-10 JC0IFBnaTaY The third and final entry in the first weeks chart for Vera Lynn, this beautiful song about two lovers being apart from eachother - because the husband has gone away to war, although the lyrics don't reference that directly they talk about the male being far away and the RAF feature as backing singers!! It would enjoy a moderately successful run on the chart through the end of 1952, dropping out in January never to return.

Badflower - This Is How The World Ends
The much anticipated second album from this Californian rock band, who were named Apple Music's band of the week for their EP Temper in 2016. They really broke out with their debut album Ok, I'm Sick in 2019 - although they'd been raising their profile by touring rock events around the world in the run up to it's release having been signed by a major label in 2015. They've since had 3 hits on the US Rock chart and 7 hits, including 2 No 1s (Heroin and The Jester) on the US Mainstream Rock Chart. Family is a powerfully dark song - as is Badflowers forte - about the a family breaking down with the protagonist blaming himself for all the issues going on. They've released 3 singles recently in the lead up to the album. Rwsh17a9Lqk Don't Hate Me picks up where Family left off with the 'Don't Hate Me' hook used in the closing salvos of family now made into a song of it's own about struggling with depression and self-loathing. oSE8j5p8N_U The most recent song is a complete switch-up for the band with a song about cheating with a good friends girlfriend and the friend getting angry, but the target of his anger not giving a crap and goading on the fight. It's a much more mainstream sounding song with a pop-punky feel but more interesting because it expresses much more self-confidence lyrically than anything else I've heard from Badflower, maybe this album will be the switch from what made them catch the eye of the rock world on OK, I'm Sick to a more mainstream sound with traditional lyrical content. Let's hope they don't lose too much of what makes them so interesting through that. S_ww6l6I2is

Coronavirus Discussion
Lots of churches are already following tonnes of restrictions similar to the pandemic mandated ones to keep people safe, restrictions that Nightclubs really can't if they want to turn any profit (social distancing, masks are still mandatory in many with older populations). Only holding services after prolonged breaks between them (equivelant to a nightclub opening say Wednesday/Friday or something). I think the issue for me is like you say more about the precedent - it's creating a two-tier society pitting vaccinated against unvaccinated which is completely unfair. It's a medical matter, and you're medical status shouldn't be something that every Tom, Dick and Harry has to ask you about for you to do everyday things, especially when there's no great evidence this will make any difference - you can still carry it if you're vaccinated after all - a negative lateral flow test on the door would surely be fairer, although I imagine more expensive.

Chartfridays Personal Chart - 6 September
This week's chart is a bit late - but here in the end. The big news of the week is ABBA releasing new music, with Don’t Shut Me Down becoming the 3rd single in a row on Chartridays in a row to enter straight a No 1 on release week…. Will that run continue or will we finally see a No 1 last out a couple of weeks with these titans of pop. Elsewhere there’s some more new entries with Charli XCX’s pop era in full swing opener on a massive banger in Good Ones entering the Top 10 straight from release. Eskimo Callboy get a Chartfridays debut with ‘We Got The Moves’ - the German metalcore/electronicore outfit who just inject fun into their songs and are a nice contrast to some of the far more serious bands in that genre.15 (NE) - Eskimo Callboy - We Got The Moves The rest of the chart sits in a semi-holding pattern, with little drops mainly due to the new entries. 01 - (NE) - ABBA - Don’t Shut Me Down [01] 02 - (NE) - ABBA - I Still Have Faith In You [02] 03 - (01) Don’t Let It Get You Down - Miles Kane [01-03] 04 - (02) Where Are You Now? - Lost Frequencies ft Calum Scott [01-02-04] 05 - (03) Fleabag - Yungblud [14-03-05] 06 - (04) Wallflower - Jinjer [04-06] 07 - (05) Assault and Batteries - Ice Nine Kills [05-07] 08 - (06) Cold Heart - Elton John, Dua Lipa (PNAU Remix) [09-06-08] 09 - (NE) - Charli XCX - Good Ones [09] 10 - (07) Stay - Kid Laroi, Justin Bieber [03-07-10] 11 - (08) Torpedo - Feeder [08-11] 12 - (09) Runaway - R3gab x Sigala x JP Cooper [30-09-12] 13 - (10) Steel Commanders - Sabaton [10-13] 14 - (11) Deja Vu (ft Alicia Harley) - Gorillaz [11-14] 15 - (NE) - Eskimo Callboy - We Got The Moves [15] 16 - (12) Alone Again - Asking Alexandria [31-12-16] 17 - (13) Feast of Fire - Trivium [28-13-17] 18 - (14) Timebomb - Motionless in White [14-18] 19 - (15) In Your Arms - Disclosure [27-15-19] 20 - (16) Bitter Taste - Billy Idol [29-16-20] 21 - (17) Lifetime - Swedish House Mafia [02-17-21] 22 - (18) Back From The Dead - Halestorm [13-18-22] 23 - (19) Change My Clothes - Dream and Alec Benjamin [06-19-23] 24 - (20) One Missipi - Kane Brown [20-24] 25 - (21) Remember Their Names - Rudimental, MJ Cole, Josh Barry [08-21-25] 26 - (22) Writings on The Wall - Iron Maiden [04-22-26] 27 - (23) Talk About - Rain Radio [12-23-27] 28 - (24) Bedroom Eyes - The Knocks [05-24-28] 29 - (25) Chasing Stars ft James Bay - Alesso and Marshmello [25-29] 30 - (26) Bad Habits - Ed Sheeran [16-26-30] 31 - (27) Industry Baby - Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow [10-27-31] 32 - (28) Hot Air Balloon - Don Diablo ft AR/Co [28-32] 33 - (29) All Things $ Can Do - Cheat Codes (ft Travis Barker and Tove Strike) [19-29-33] 34 - (30) Leave Before You Love Me - Marshmello & Jonas Brothers [20-30-34] 35 - (31) Don’t You Hold Me Down - Alan Walker & Georgia Ku [31-35] 36 - (32) Remember - Becky Hill, David Guetta [ 21-32-36] 37 - (33) I Guess I’m Love - Clinton Kane [24-33-37] 38 - (34) Pollyanna - Green Day [34-38] 39 - (35) I Wanna Love You But I Don’t - Ben Platt [15-35-39] 40 - (36) Happier Than Ever - Billie Eilsh [07-36-40] OUT 38 - (38) Let Them Know - Mabel [11-38] 37 - (37) Distorted Light Beam - Bastille [25-37] 39 - (39) Enter Sandman - Weezer [32-39] 40 - (40) Rumors - Lizzo, Cardi B [34-40]

Coronavirus Discussion
Surely if you're requiring it for Nightclubs, some of which round me can only 100-500 for a headline dance gig then your definition of large scale events is going to have to reflect that. I think the focus on Nightclubs is an attempt to mitigate a massive outbreak when everybody moves to uni, as even students who aren't - i've noticed their talking about 'large venues' in their latest briefings on this - so it might be a case of you can go to one place but not the other. It's also probably in consideration of unis going back where people will be moving in together from all over the country and likely to want to hang out 'freshers flu' is a real thing and I'd imagine Covid would similarly love that environment. Arena gigs are surely going to requiring them, as will festivals (although their won't be many in winter, and hopefully the passes will be gone by summer)

Is anyone else genuinely uncomfortable with the idea of vaccine passports? It's seems like generally people are now resigned to the fact it's going to happen but I honestly don't see all that many practical benefits to it and many negatives to it.

The Wanted - Most Wanted: The Greatest Hits
Which is fine as a song theme for the latest and greatest indie rock band who look like they just walked out your local dive, the point is rather lost when it's sung by to the latest in a long stream of boyband's who are all about image management and being good looking and trendy.

1950s Hits: Song by Song
#7 Doris Day, Frankie Laine - Sugarbush Debut: 14 November 1952 Peak #8 WoC: 8 Chart Runs: 8-12 (B) 8-8-10-10-10-10 G_ASJgm1Dp8 A duet - the first duet of this run-down, from Doris Day and Frankie Laine. Honestly I don't really have much time for either Doris Day or these particular runs of duets she did with both Frankie Laine and Johnnie Ray through the fifties, and this corny song about two lovers is not any exception to that. In an early example of pop music inspiration from traditional music that would come to define many pop acts of the future and many more after them the song is based on an old South African folk song called Suikerbossie which you can hear a beautiful version of below. That said the song performed particular well among the songs on the first week charts, hanging around the lower echelons (at the time) of the music chart for a total of 8 weeks. Z-71zOAeBJQ

Roger Daltrey - Who Was I Tour
Looking at the capacity of some of these venues, good look anyone getting any tickets before the scalps sell them for £100,000 “The truth is singers need to sing,” Daltrey said in a statement. “Use it or lose it. “Throughout my life I have sung with so many great musicians, from the heavy rock of The Who and Wilko Jonson, to the Irish lilt of The Chieftains. On this tour I want to take the audience on a musical journey through my career as a singer, with a show of songs and sounds that explores and surprises. I look forward to having closer contact with my audience than festivals and arenas allow. Leaving time to chat.”
