  1. I think the plan the government are trying to push them to is a subscription model. The question is how far they go with it. Remove the compulsory license fee but allow people to make a voluntary donation and keep the BBC roughly as is - Remove the compulsory license fee but make access to the BBC a condition of paying a subscription fee - essentially privatising it. Abolish the license fee, and fund the BBC directly from taxes to remove the pressure of individuals to pay the bill. The last one would actually deal with the concern Dorries is citing around pressure on individuals, so if she does anything else we know what we already know for sure - this is a political move.
  2. I've got a feeling this is going to be one of those that's alright to start with cos it's sounding different to a lot of other stuff around and is clearly displaying some talent, but if it sticks around in the charts for weeks on the end it's going to grate a lot. A bit like ArrDee and Oliver Twist. Liverpool have a history of getting behind locals, so no doubt even the 'washed olders' will be pinging a quid on it.
  3. It's hard to have a non politic discussion, when this is ultimately a political decision. Starve it to death - the ultimate Tory philosophy. Unfortunately it will actually work here unlike with the NHS
  4. Making River the Doctor would raise some pretty awkward rewatches
  5. Dorries going after the BBC accusing it of a left-wing bias and forcing it to find 2bn in savings. The BBC that's been a government mouthpiece for the past few years? Might explain the slightly less cloying BBC news pages in the past few weeks now they know being Boris's Broadcasters won't get them saved from the Dorries axe. Honestly this stinks of a government that knows it's on it's way out - the next real discussion won't be til 2025 - which means they likely chastise Labour who'll be in by then of 'not scrapping the licence fee, which we would have done' despite the fact they've had 14 years by that point to do it. How many more of these ridiculous smoke and mirrors tricks are we going to get?
  6. Don't think Won't Stand Down is making the top 40 - down to #137
  7. Due to all the football references obviously, not the scouse accent :P To be fair the lyrics are actually reasonable clever for this sort of music, once you've deciphered it. He's clearly talented.
  8. He's asking for the right to.pay for it himself though. Whilst this is clearly a consequence of his own making, it seems a bit daft he can't pay for police protection - given he's still a royal family member it's going to be tough for him to.privately mount a operation capbale of protecting him https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60012238

So what we all thinking on this one? Likely to be a dominant story until he dies in and out. Been given a pig heart transplant (world first) but it turns out he best a man and left him paralysed in 1988 for which he was sentenced to ten years. The man he attacked died at the age of 40. The pig heart thing was a bit sick in the stomach feeling for me and just feels wrong, the fact he also turns out to have such a rotten past seems to make it even more wrong, although I'm not sure it would be ethical to stop people having transplants just because they've done bad things.

Animations cancelled. Well that's put me in a bit of a downer mood. Was hoping more would have been finished by the time I got round to them. https://winteriscoming.net/2022/01/14/bbc-r...tm_medium=email
  11. Thanks popchartfreak. Another great read
  12. As awesome as these polls are to look let's be honest as soon as Boris is replaced they'll be the other way round again
  13. Would have needed to have made her own tardis.

First losers then. It is possible to lose this game, but you have be utterly stupid to manage it. Also it seems to be getting more watchable this week than last week, and seeing the result of failure makes it more real.

At least the contestants this week look slightly more bothered about the amounts of money their risking than last weeks.

Anyone given this another go? Where the f***s this guy buying a house? Splitting it between the 3 kids, but wants 100,000? So that gives him 33,000 to buy his house with?
  17. So as part of research for the 70th anniversary stuff I came across Wandering Star - the No 1 song that spawned from this film. It honestly seems quite odd to understand how this film spawned a No 1 hit. Wanderin' Star is one hell of a song - despite Marvin's singing (although he sings it in a way to deliberately suit him and the charachter of Rumson - Marvin's insistence of drini) but the film itself is a bit of an overlong mess - carried primarily by the music (alongside Wandering Star the title I'm On My Way (Paint Your Wagon) and Gold Fever also stand up as memorable songs) but the central plot of the two partners sharing the woman bought at an auction while Marvin's character was drunk out his skull, and the difficulties coming from that (which is introduced after an age of world building going pretty much nowhere) really doesn't feel like enough to fill 2 hrs 35 minutes. The plot of the No Name City being taken over by the gold rush is obviously the other primary plot, but so much focus is given on Rumson and Partner and Elisabeth the plot around the city being taken over is somewhat lost.
  18. Let's be honest if this whole ordeal had been a thick of it storyline we'd have accused the show of losing it's touch and getting a bit silly....
  19. Man who lost mum as a child doesn't grow up to be perfect. Hardly story of the century. Losing parents as an adult can be damaging enough for most people.
  20. Muse at 42 was a bit unexpected hope they can keep going, would be really cool to see a band like them go top 40 in the current climate
  21. Can't work out if I'm laughing cos I luv this or hate it... 'Newton liked them thick as f*** but he didn't say that 'I am a god I can turn wine into vomit'
  22. Same band so might not county but Sixty Minute Man had the hilarious follow up a few years later Can't Do Sixty No More.
  23. The news of Andrew being a probable sex pest broke ages ago. Royal family have basically left him to hang himself. Looks like Charles was the driving force behind stripping Andrew of his titles - presumably there's a lot of private anger about this if there's any suspicion he's guilty - finding out your brothers a nonce must be pretty hard on anyone without the world watching
  24. The military were rightly baying for him, if it's a choice been forcing servicemen to potentially toast a peado or hurting your grown up sons pride a bit even if by some miracle he turns out to be innocent, the choice is obvious.
