  1. Unfortunately I've had the misfortune of listening to people who defend him today. Some peoples capability for mental gymnastics is astounding - unsurprisingly those who were inclined to break the rules in the first place quite inclined to go 'they were just doing what we were all doing.'
  2. Can't immediately see a thread for some of the more ridiculous Ofcom completes, the weekly round ups can sometimes be a laugh and some of the weirdest end up in the news. 179 complained about Olly Alexanders 11.25pm performance being "over-sexualised" in the NYE show on BBC1.... Good job they didn't book Lil Nas X https://metro.co.uk/2022/01/12/bbc-respond-...aints-15905874/
  3. Really hoping muse can somehow squeeze a Top 40 out of Won't Stand Down, it's their best track in a very long time.
  4. He has to go now surely? Even Tory stalwarts must be utterly outraged at this picture, the Queen at a socially distanced funeral and the public unable to mourn a royal death in the usual manner. There's no amount of clamouring or apologizing can surely undo this. It says enough that my reaction was 'oh another one' rather than any anger If Labour are reading this the line at PMQs is quite simple: 'It seems the PM and his staff are rather fond of their dancing, but Prime Minister when the party's over, I think you better go now?'
  5. I'd just find it insane that nobody in 59 years has ever thought of the Susan follow up story after she was left - revisiting old companions can be a bit weird but there's so much opportunity with her, I'd like to see her as a powerful woman in government of some sort or a scientific prodigy finally having got the recognition she craved from 'grandfather' leaving The Doctor tinged with a bit of sadness at seeing her, but some pride. Unfortunately I reckon RTD might be more likely to try and not mention the past sadly.
  6. Re Susan would Ford want to return? I can imagine the only reason she wasn't in the 50th was she didn't want to be. It'd be pretty cool to visit Susan in tbe 23rd century as an old lady (DIOE I'd set in 2164 so could set in in 2222 and that would keep things together - Peter Fraser who played David Campbell is still around and all so they could still be together. I quite like the mooted idea of using her to cement the Timeless Child by either 13 or 14 bumping into her. If there going to avoid try onning it then she's the key to it.

  9. So this one's been running round my head and here seems as best a place to run it around... Remember when the 11th Doctor met thee curator and he said he might even revisit a few old faces in future... what if they went and revisited the idea with one of two ideas.... Cast Tom Baker as the 14th Doctor (outlandish but would surely be a ratings grabber) Give Jo Martin the 14th Doctor role
  10. If it was a bit closer I would, but giving him up to 2 more years to ruin the country more isn't so much funny as scary.

Yeah I get what your saying that they've really not had much choice with Carol Ann Ford's departure, but from a creative point of view it ends up coming out pretty badly. As you say though, the next serial really does benefit from this positioning, despite being incredibly good on it's own merits.
  12. Odd indeed, unless he's actually got it why is he isolating?
  13. Getting people to stop voting Tory is half the battle, getting them to come back to Labour is the second half. Pretty sure yesterday's PMQs might have done some good work on that score. As much as Kier is calling for BJ to go, the longer he tries to cling on the better for Labour at the moment.
  14. One of his 7000 kids?

Ok then moving on - I'd heard bad things about this, and sadly they were all true. What a load of crap. Planet of the Giants 31 October 1964 - 14 November 1964 (3 x 25) Season 2: First Doctor, Ian, Susan, Barbara This is a really bizarre serial in a number of ways, firstly it’s only 3 episodes long in an era where the traditional bare minimum was 4 episodes - although by the end of the serial it’s hard not to consider that a big relief. The tiny amount of plot is hardly satisfactory to pad out more than a handful of episodes - something the production team acknowledged themselves in cutting it down to 3 rather than 4 episodes. The TARDIS malfunctions and makes the TARDIS crew absolutely tiny - smaller than an ant - meanwhile someones trying to get their excessively lethal pesticide over the line by killing a government scientist. Credit is due for it being a proper sci-fi storyline and certainly the beginning of a trend to more reverence for this sort of stuff in the show. Unfortunately big people are only so scary and you never truly feel like the TARDIS crew are in any danger from the pesticide - once it becomes fairly damn obvious it isn’t going to kill any of them. The political saga is ultimately boring, and feels like it belongs in a film of the era rather than in Doctor Who. Barbara is written absolutely appallingly. The stuff in the sink with the echoing seems like the most blatant attempt at ticking the educational boxes in the show so far, thank god that requirement will eventually be discarded so we can get on with the fun stuff. In essence Planet of the Giants is a watchable but ultimately flawed piece of filler which makes absolutely no sense as a season opener - especially when you know what comes after it is an utter masterpiece - which frankly makes the decision even more bizarre. It’s merciful they cut it down, as 4 episodes of this might have elevated it to utter unwatchability.
  16. So the Rees-Mogg defence of the PM is that the regulations were too tough so it was fine for the PM to break them? Despite the fact people in many cases couldn't break a lot of the more despicable regulations like funeral bans because other people were too frightened to lose their jobs by letting them? I've never been so utterly appalled by a government minister in my life.
  17. Edison Lighthouse and Rod Stewart? Is it 1971 or 2022?
  18. Surely most people are capable of googling the relevant distances and going from there. Not sure that's worth 50 quid a pop!!
  19. And why are they drinking at work so much? Outlawed in even some banking firms nowadays
  20. Independence was never meant to be about the current government, otherwise much of the north of England would have buggered off years ago.
  21. Thanks to all who joined in on Sunday - hope you enjoyed it as much as me, here's the list for this weeks session for the curious, or those who can't make it and want to catch up for later weeks. 22. I must admitting going to put in on seeing who was playing and going back to sleep. I like Selby but Maguire hasn't been good for years, a bit confused how he's still.in top 16 tbh.
  23. We don't know why he went to London or what happened after he got there, which I think is why everyone is so intrigued by this. Hopefully for the sake of his family (and him and other victims if crimes have been committed, should he be alive) the answers start flowing.
  24. Saw the article on BBC this morning and thought of this thread too. Those charges certainly leave open the chance of him being alive
  25. Some have been added in the past.
