  1. 2009 The Hurt Locker Precious Inglorious Basterds An Education District 9 Up In The Air A Serious Man Up Avatar The Blind Side I wouldn't agree at all that this is anywhere near a good slate of films - I only actively like the top three - but I do agree that it's a strong range of genres and filmmaking approaches. At least the right film won. 2010 The Fighter Toy Story 3 The Social Network 127 Hours Winter's Bone Black Swan The Kids Are All Right Inception The King's Speech True Grit Now THIS is more like it - only the bottom three here would I strike from this list. And again, a strong range of films. Just a shame that the most straightforward and conventional of the films won. 2011 The Artist Moneyball The Tree Of Life War Horse Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close The Help Hugo Midnight In Paris The Descendants Another great winner, hurrah! Feels like a less exciting slate somehow, mostly solid films but the mid-range ones here feel particularly ordinary. The Descendants is just absolutely dreadful, though. 2012 Beasts Of The Southern Wild Amour Lincoln Zero Dark Thirty Silver Linings Playbook Django Unchained Les Miserables Life Of Pi Argo VERY strong line-up, at least the top half. Again, the winner is the worst thing here, but the top of my list has two films that are far from conventional nominees and are still extraordinary feats of filmmaking. 2013 Her 12 Years A Slave Gravity Captain Philips American Hustle The Wolf Of Wall Street Philomena Dallas Buyers Club Nebraska Some actively bad films at the bottom, but some all-timers at the top, and one of the most important winners of recent years. 2014 Selma The Grand Budapest Hotel Boyhood Birdman The Theory Of Everything Whiplash American Sniper The Imitation Game Feels a bit less inspired than some years, but the top three (again!) are great, and the winner is an intriguing pick. 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road Brooklyn Room Spotlight The Martian The Big Short Bridge Of Spies The Revenant The films about women are SO much more interesting than the ones about men. Still, only The Revenant winning would disappoint me - The Big Short is obnoxious but it's also fascinating in terms of presenting a new synthesis of comedic filmmaking approaches.
  2. Yeah - could maybe be reworded as "for playing the same character"? If I've understood correctly. Also not sure how you're gonna judge what's correct or incorrect for this? Seems kinda subjective. Anyway I shall enter, 'tis the season after all :D
  3. ... Is it too late to rate? :D
  4. I may not have won but I got the most important question right B-)
  5. The Lion King, I'm much more attached to the other two!
  6. Surely #5 is the most obvious? For #7, I went with the first thing that came into my head but I've no idea what would win it.
  7. besting all predictions, I'll definitely take that *.* nice mid-table follow on to Powers, and it was a last-minute pick from my 2015 best list that I had no expectations for. hopefully even better next month?! (*flops miserably*) congrats Mattias, terrific pop song and def sounded like a winner!! great hosting Klumzee, thank you :D
  8. probably the closest I've been to points from Bal in over a year :o hopefully 2016 will be our rebuild!
  9. mine seems right, I did pick up 5 mystery points somewhere but didn't want to question it :kink: thanks Mikey! hoped you'd be a fan
  10. YAS KLUMZEE. Host approval! Gettin' a fair few 13s! (EDIT: and Desbuanda too! ty) actually approve of 80% of the top ten. I just... What. it's in the country name.
  11. YAY thanks Dobago, a much-needed boost noooo Cumulonimbia get back to the top!!
  12. this points drought :drama:
  13. an EXCELLENT start, thanks Liam!
  14. coming for that bottom ten yet again ~~
  15. Obviously not a Madge classic but I was also agog to see it in this at all, it's quite cute and breezy. Nothing to despise.
  16. randomfurlong posted a post in a topic in BuzzJack Song Contest
Obviously my own entries - Laura Welsh was my first taste of almost-glory and remains a gorgeous song, even if it did get a bit diluted by the overproduction when it got re-done. TBH with how skewed this is inevitably gonna be to more recent entries and how famous the Deadmau5 song is, I'm gonna take this poll result as a personal victory. BYE The Megan Vice song didn’t do so well but I’ve legitimately been obsessed it with it since the contest - it was my alarm for aaaaaages. Glad I’m not the only vote for it at least! Laura Marling and Deadmau5 are pretty much modern classics, and As Animals is a fave from my hosted contest  And John Grant too! It’s a good word for songs, evidently.
  17. Syndare have voted! actually a pretty strong selection in the end, my 18 really grew on me
  18. The Look of Silence is obviously not an easy watch, but it's such an incredible documentary. The director's previous film The Act of Killing is basically a partner film and is also gripping to experience. I enjoyed Amy but it's ridiculous to me that it's going to win Best Doc at the Oscars over TLOS. They just don't even compare in terms of bravery, skill and importance. Legally Blonde is obviously amazing too, such sharp comic timing from Reese. Such a golden period for her with that coming after Election and Pleasantville.
  19. 'Shoo-Bee-Doo' is too sweet for this list. As is 'Candy Shop' ~~ 'Hey You' to lose/win.
  20. He didn't break it, he equalled Ivan Lendl's US Open record. Real shame but even the tight second set I saw, Murray just wasn't consistently positive or aggressive enough to ever be in contention. Shame. Konta out of Fed Cup with an intestinal issue that apparently got worse in Melbourne - makes her achievement there even more impressive. There's a terrible 'real guts' pun there somewhere.
  21. +10 B-Day Song +09 Hey You +08 Autotune Baby +07 Did You Do It? +06 S.E.X. +05 Bitch I'm Madonna +04 Spanish Lesson +03 Girl Gone Wild +02 Shoo-Bee-Doo +01 Candy Shop
  22. Ooh I've never been announced first before, how cool. Wasn't even really expecting to Q either so thanks all! Sad to lose my top two but hopefully semi 2 is as rich as Bre keeps saying.
  23. YAY LEWW
  24. FINALLY. Just The Jungle Book to go and then I'll find it close to impossible. Sorry richie, I am your problem.
