  2. I chose Katy. The more risky pop works when it works but it's far more hit and miss for me, whereas there's rarely a generic pop song I dislike.
  3. I guess you could qualify Florence and Calvin for this, #1s with Spectrum and Sweet Nothing. Also, Rihanna and Drake had Take Care and What's My Name.

Jessie has RUINED herself this era imo, I adored Who You Are but Wild is OK at best and It's My Party is basically a reduced re-hash of Domino. I'll probably give her album a go but not getting my hopes up at all.
  5. I don't think that Gaga can really be that bothered about getting a #1 single anyway, otherwise she would have released Applause in October to guarantee a high placement. She likes to get high charting singles but her priority is to make her music accessible to her fans. I think Katy and her team seem to time her releases perfectly in the UK: enough time to build up hype, but not too long for interest to be lost. That's why the majority of her pre-album singles have got to #1.
  6. I think Applause could quite easily get to #1, it's not quite as hyped up as Born This Way was but with 5 days of sales in its first week it should be able to. I remember Born This Way sold something like 60,000 copies in its first day and a half so if Applause can match that it will certainly reach the top spot.
  7. I really don't get the love for Summertime Sadness. The album version is so dreary and dull, although the Cedric Gervais remix gives it a bit of life.

I've got a feeling that the remix of Summertime Sadness could do surprisingly well with it being released similarly to Spectrum - obviously nowhere near the same scale but still exceeding expectations.
  9. It will depend A LOT on its longevity but I think that Blurred Lines could end up outselling Someone Like You in the future.
  10. Marcus Butler's a YouTuber, I think he released this to celebrate getting a million subscribers but I may be wrong.
  11. Beyoncé - Telephone [Part II] would be interesting.
  12. The only reason I mentioned Maxwell was because of its use on talent shows where it's been called a Maxwell song as a pose to a Kate Bush one.
  13. I don't think that there's been a thread on this before and there was talk of it in the iTunes thread so I thought I'd start one. Here's a few that come to mind straight away: Skinny Love - Bon Iver / Birdy This Woman's Work - Kate Bush / Maxwell You've Got The Love - The Source feat. Candi Station / Florence + the Machine Make You Feel My Love - Bob Dylan / Adele Your Song - Elton John / Ellie Goulding Your Song and This Woman's Work are arguable but I'd say the other 3 are definite.
  14. Blurred Lines reminds me of Kiss by Prince in the falsetto parts.
  15. I think Jessie Ware should go at least Top 40 this week. Strange to think that it will be her first time there!
