  2. Jessie has RUINED herself this era imo, I adored Who You Are but Wild is OK at best and It's My Party is basically a reduced re-hash of Domino. I'll probably give her album a go but not getting my hopes up at all.
  3. I don't think that Gaga can really be that bothered about getting a #1 single anyway, otherwise she would have released Applause in October to guarantee a high placement. She likes to get high charting singles but her priority is to make her music accessible to her fans.

I think Katy and her team seem to time her releases perfectly in the UK: enough time to build up hype, but not too long for interest to be lost. That's why the majority of her pre-album singles have got to #1.

  4. I think Applause could quite easily get to #1, it's not quite as hyped up as Born This Way was but with 5 days of sales in its first week it should be able to. I remember Born This Way sold something like 60,000 copies in its first day and a half so if Applause can match that it will certainly reach the top spot.
  5. I've got a feeling that the remix of Summertime Sadness could do surprisingly well with it being released similarly to Spectrum - obviously nowhere near the same scale but still exceeding expectations.

I don't think that there's been a thread on this before and there was talk of it in the iTunes thread so I thought I'd start one.

Here's a few that come to mind straight away:

Skinny Love - Bon Iver / Birdy

This Woman's Work - Kate Bush / Maxwell

You've Got The Love - The Source feat. Candi Station / Florence + the Machine

Make You Feel My Love - Bob Dylan / Adele

Your Song - Elton John / Ellie Goulding

Your Song and This Woman's Work are arguable but I'd say the other 3 are definite.

  7. I do think that downloading has reached its peak, but I don't think it will drop significantly for a long time. Streaming's obviously on the rise but I can't see it completely taking over downloads in the same way CD singles died out. It's not really so much of an alternative as an additional method of buying music in my opinion; I could see sales being evenly split between the two for some time.
  8. What with Iggy, Nicki and AlunaGeorge all climbing on iTunes this week, there is sure to be some really good songs entering the chart in the next fortnight! High School's success is really baffling considering her 'urban' songs usually flop but I'm not complaining. It's been a while since we've had some Nicki in the chart (disregarding the awful Beauty And A Beat).
  9. I'm sorry, does "Your Drums, Your Love" (#50, 2012) not qualify as a solo hit? I get what you're saying though, it'll be nice to see the two of them in the T40 of their own accord, despite the vocals on "White Noise" being a huge part of it's success, I'd say.

Fantastic to see Haim now at #40 on iTunes - #35 in the midweeks is a good indication that it could well stay there now. And to think, I've done my part; having downloaded the incredible Duke Dumont Remix of the track.

 07. Pitbull / Christina "Feel This Moment"

 08. PJ & Duncan "Let's Get Ready to Rhumble"

^ I'm in split minds at this movement. Now that PJ & Duncan have that #1 to their name, the jokes sort of over; so I'd rather the track just leave as quickly as it sprung up. At the same time, that Pitbull/Christina track should not be heading towards the T10. It was #11 officially on Sunday and I'm assuming #11 in the midweeks. For it to enter, it's likely "Thrift Shop" has to wave farewell, something I'd rather not have to see this week (unless of course Michael Buble is happy to hand over his T10 positioning for the week).

I didn't realise YDYL had peaked so high actually, but either way Top 40 is a significant milestone for them and I can see Attracting Flies making the Top 20 at least in the future.
