Underlined who I prefer

Wonder when the UK will be treated to the second Minaj single, 'Right by My Side' featuring Chris Brown - has been released today over in the US.

 

I was under the impression that 'Roman Reloaded' with Lil Wayne would be the second single, but I think going with Brown has more dance/pop appeal - something she needs to stick with before the album drops. So three promotional singles, two actual singles and another unconfirmed-what-it-is single to come - 6 tracks and we'll still have 16 more to look forward on April 2.

 

There is also Roman Holiday that she performed at the Grammys (you might have already meant this, in which case I have become sincerely confused :lol: )

I think Turn Me On will have a similar run to Who's That Chick - as in not peaking very high but having a huge chart run. Quite odd that this is sort of the other way round; WTC peaked before the video release, whereas TMO peaked after.

Who'd have thought that MIA would have a better chart run (if not peak) on her comeback single than Madonna? I don't really 'get' Bad Girls though, to me it just sounds repetitive.

 

In other news, I've just heard Marina and the Diamonds' news single & it sounds surprisingly good for her. It's the VIP track on the music channels - don't these usually do quite well?

Part Of Me will probably slot in somewhere near to California Gurls, it's not bad but it's far from her best - the top 3 are all in my top 20 of all time. I never really got the hype around ET, I was disappointed to hear it was being made into a single and to be honest I doubted that it would make top 10. Last Friday Night was the song that I thought would be huge, and although it performed quite well I was expecting it to be number 1. And I don't think that Teenage Dream is the forgotten song of this era, yes it 'stalled' at number 2 but had a decent chart run. It probably sold about the same as ET, it was in the YE Top 30 for 2010 IIRC (more than can be said for ET in 2011, although sales were higher then).

 

I think that Emeli Sande is going to be performing at Sport Relief this Friday if her twitter account is to be trusted - this may not be the case as she definitely said she would be performing on Let's Dance yesterday so who knows.

 

Pleased that Part Of Me is doing so well, I thought it wouldn't perform very well here seen as though it had a delayed release and no video has been released yet. I think the more shocking thing is the under-performance of all of the other new entries. A few days ago everyone was certain that it would be an all new top 3 (Katy/JLS/Labrinth), and Sean Paul has out-performed 2 of those. Just shows how unpredictable the chart has become.

I dont know if its already been mentioned, but JLS are also performing on Lets Dance as well as Katy.

Just seen an advert for the sims where Katy Perry performs POM. Looking ever more likely that it will debut at the top spot...

I think that Next To Me was performed on Lorraine, but surely the impact would be very little from this?

It sometimes makes me laugh at how optimistic people can be on here. Lots of airplay is good because more people get to hear it, yet little airplay is also good because people will be more likely to buy a song if they haven't heard it too much. Make your minds up!

I was shocked to learn a few weeks ago that Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 didn't even go Top 40 in the UK! I always assumed it would have spent weeks and weeks at number 1, definitely what I would call a 'classic' as most people have heard of it + call it her signature hit.

Talking of katy perry, does anyone know when Part Of Me is released? That is surely a number one contender.

It's sort of irrelevant, but why are albums released on Mondays? I thought the chart was Sunday - Sunday, so wouldn't it make more sense to release them on a Sunday, as with singles?

The part I was disputing was "another million on what it has now at the least" purely on the back of the success of the next album.

 

I think you misunderstood - what I meant was another million on what it has now ie. eventually it will sell 5 million, and this will be boosted by her next album but not completely because of it.

I really dont see this happening.

 

So 21's sales won't increase at all when she releases a new album?

With the release of 24, or whatever Adele calls her next album, i can certainly see 21 doing a mini 19 and selling pretty well then, another million on what it has now at the least
