I know others have done better, but Rihanna has also had 3 first singles going to number one; Umbrella (I'm only assuming this was the first single, I don't know for sure); Only Girl; and We Found Love.

212 certainly isn't instant; it took like a month for it to finally click with me, but now it's one of my favourites of the year. I don't know what direction she's going to go in with the album, but I'll certainly be purchasing to see what she's all about. It will be hard to top 212, mind.

I really love Our Version Of Events, its probably my favourite album of 2012 so far. The BRITs always pick a good Critic's Choice; Adele, Florence, Jessie and Emeli are among my favourite acts of all time.

Pound The Alarm is an AMAZING song, but as a single, right after Starships? I'm not 100% sure about that one. It's not really any sort of progression from Starships; I think she would have been much better releasing Marylin Monroe or something else from the album and releasing PTA in a few singles' time. However catchy and loveable these dance songs may be, anyone could do them, and I think Nicki really thrives when she is doing something that only she can do. Her recent songs are good, but really don't compare to most of her first album. The Nicki I really love is pop Nicki, songs like I'm The Best, Your Love and Super Bass (the latter is in my Top 10 favourite songs ever). I liked it when she rapped as well as sung, because I'm not really a fan of proper, dirty rap songs, so rapping over a pop beat really appealed to me. She used to have something special and unique about her, but PF:RR just made her sound generic and faceless. I'm worried that its success will only mean she will never return to the way she used to be.

I do like Electra Heart, at first it seemed like nothing special but all of the songs are listenable at least. A few of the songs do mingle into one though, to be fair.

I'm pleased that Cheryl is doing so well, I didn't like it a few weeks ago when I first heard it but it's gradually grown on me. Bought it myself today, fully expecting it to clear 150k this week. I am quite pleased how well My Kind Of Love is doing. I wasn't expecting it to go T40 at first because it's hardly a commercial song, but it has been handled very well (what with her The Voice performance and price reduction) and, even after been put back to 99p, is showing a fair amount of staying power. Obviously it's doing nothing compared to Next To Me but MKOL was only ever released to fill the gap between it and Read All About It, Pt. III so it has done remarkable.

2 Princess Of China's?

I think if there's a different number one each week it sort of devalues it, and although I don't particularly mind it, that's why people disapprove of one week number 1s. I don't really care what's number one to be completely honest.

I think it would depend on whether or not they were involved in the writing process of the song. If all they did was provide vocals then they would get no more than 10% of the credit as virtually anyone could have done it, but if they were fundamental in making the song what it was then credit should be distributed accordingly. I also think they should get more credit if they helped to launch a song for a relatively new artist by appearing on it (B.o.B on Price Tag, for example) because if people see an artist they know of on a song they will be more likely to give it a try. You can't really give a definitive answer because there's so much variation.

Nicki Minaj is releasing the video for Right By My Side TONIGHT - and Vevo have confirmed so it really will be tonight. I think it should have a similar run to Fly; it's catchy enough but nowhere near Starships or Super Bass.

Being reduced to 59p has really boosted My Kind Of Love, it's in the top 20 already. All of Emeli's singles seem to have been reduced so far IIRC, it's quite a clever strategy but seems unjust somehow.
