I can never get over how much people on this site like to state their opinion in an objective way, as if it's fact. Well it ain't, it's your opinion. Adele is not my favourite artist, however I think she is stunning, and I find her far more attractive than most of the singers mentioned in previous posts. I also think her music is way way better than the kind of over simplistic sexualised drivel that Katy Perry and Rihanna spout all the time. However, all of this is my opinion. Please be aware that the comments some of you state as fact, are not what many (possibly the majority) of other people think, and please articulate them as such

Actually, thinking about it, this might be the best way to phrase the question: Does Adele's '19' hold the record for the longest time between release and a million+ selling year?

Thanks Gezza. You could be right about all 3 of those, although white ladder had a re-release in 2000. Ok, I'll test you further! Is '19' the first album ever, outside of it's first 3 years, to sell over a million in one year?

I don't understand this post. People consider Snow Patrol to be Northern Irish, because it's constituent members are from Northern Ireland. It's not rocket science. 6 of the 8 people who have played in Snow Patrol (including lead singer songwriter Gary) were born and raised in Belfast, Derry or Bangor.

Well, the name of the thread is 'Northern Irish artists that have had top 40 hits?' :rolleyes: An interesting one is the band 'Relish' from Northern Ireland had a big hit in ROI with 'Rainbow Zephyr', it was then covered by Westlife who changed the name to 'Hey Whatever' and got to no.4 in the UK. The original is much better though, you should check it out.

Gary Moore had loads of top 40 hits

Two door cinema club have had top 75 hits General Fiasco have had top 100 hits

Re the first post on this thread: you've written 'Most weeks at no1 by a solo artist album ever 21'. I believe that's held by Elvis with G.I. blues (22 weeks) Here's one to consider though- does she hold the record for 'most career weeks at number 1' for a British female?

You are right, its a massive total. The figure that will be recorded officially though will be the IFPI shipped figure which will probably state around 17million for 2011, which is even more impressive!

Your 2nd question is an interesting one. Over a 12 month period she has sold over 5 million copies of 19 and 21 (plus an additional ~200k of Live at the RAH and London Itunes Festival) I think it v unlikely that any other artist in history has sold more than 5.2 million albums in 12 months. Plus, another record to add to this list above would be total album sales in a calendar year. Adele sold 5million in 2011 (more if you count LATRAH), whereas the nearest challenger is MJ with 2.7 million in 2009

Hi, do you have the total sales for 'I'm yours' by Jason Mraz? I'm trying to work out if Adele's SFTTR is close to becoming the best-selling non-top 10 of all time, but I'm pretty sure 'I'm yours' currently holds it with 450,000+ sales after peaking at 11 in 2009

Robbie sold 753000 of RKTVS in 2009, and 265990 of his album sales in 2010 WEREN'T from IAOOC. If you assume all those sales were for RKTVS, it would bring it's total to 1018990. Obviously a small few of the sales will actually have been for other back catalogue albums, but even so, it would suggest RKTVS is now sitting right on 1 million sales
