Just as an additional point I don't really understand what's so awful about the guy? I'm usually the first one to detest the male part of a duo but aside from the obviously hideous "bee bop" part he seems to be a good contributor - the "oh yes" is just as fabulous as the "sounding good sugar" part imo. Can't comment on vocal quality but I think both parts are largely equal in terms of what they bring.

So many people saying this as if Ireland ever do anything better than "meh" :lol: The song won't go anywhere but it's quite pretty so I'll take it. Look forward to it being destroyed by a performance theme of "CELTIC IMAGERY EVERYWHERE" as ever.

Australia surprisingly isn't a big Iggy supporter. Until 'Fancy' they pretty much ignored her actually.

I listened to 'Dirrty' on a retro marathon today and I couldn't believe how much I disliked it :o I appreciate it being iconic for Xtine and being very risky but give me 'Fighter' any day, I find her voice just way too difficult to listen to on 'Dirrty'. 'Slave' however is perfect :D It's really a pity that Urbaney was only really a big presence on two albums. It wouldn't really suit her anymore and I'm very happy Blackout/Circus/Femme Fatale happened but if you look at her album discog: Album 1 + 2 = Bubblegum Album 3 = Bubblegum/Urban Album 4 = Urban/Electronic Album 5+ = Electropop/Dance Brit's first 6 albums took her in a lot of different directions, even FF did to some degree with being the first pure dance Brit album, but BJ didn't really (slightly more bubblegum I guess on tracks like 'Perfume'?) and I'm not sure the new album will. I really hope she experiments a bit with her next releases because as much as she does dance brilliantly, I'd like to see her try her hand at more stuff because the occasional "Britney does X genre" songs are among her best imo. That said, not sure what genre she could visit next :P Folktronica?

It's hard not to blame her for the generally rubbish campaigns she's been running for a while now. She chose poor singles to launch the album with and this is basically the result.

It is possible it's Wednesday now (in which case they're just a bit slow off the starting blocks I guess?) but I know it was Monday in the somewhat recent past at least. They may have changed it :P

The song came out the same day the playlist was finalised and Kanye is not the kind of artist to give advance notice of these things to (British, even) radio stations. I don't get what you're saying. "the same old here" - Radio 1 are generally much quicker to react to OA/OS than any other commercial radio station and waiting one week for Kanye doesn't change that. The playlist is boring but on this subject they've done nothing to warrant such complaints.

It is not unusual for a fan to look at a popstar writing their material as a way to make a more personal connection. There is a reason so much of the promotion for Britney Jean focused on the fact that Britney had a writing credit on every single song. I'm pretty sure this is the same with every artist you like.

I don't agree at all. I don't imagine anyone who remembers 'Baby One More Time' could have forgotten 'Genie'. 'Genie' doesn't get as much exposure nowadays but it's absolutely among the biggest and most remembered singles of its time.

Would also like to chuck in a vote for 'Gimme More' vs 'Ven Conmigo (Solamente Tú)' :kink:

I've put a lot of thought into this :o Not to be too serious but I've chosen 'Baby' and here are some random reasons why I chose it (it basically reads as a rant about hating 'Genie'): Song-wise 'Baby' is stronger to me. I feel like a lot of songs in the same style as 'Genie' from that time feel decidedly limp now even though they were fabulous back then. 'Genie' still has a catchy hook but I just listened to it because of this thread and it can really feel like a song with no huge direction. 'Baby' still packs a punch and I say that as someone who really can't claim bubblegum pop to be a massive love of mine in general. Video-wise 'Baby' has to win too. It's still such a fun video that is bursting with personality and effort to be something both different and great. That's exactly why it's such an iconic video and why there are so many things to go "wow" at when rewatching it. The schoolgirl outfit, the ticking clock, Britney sat down in the middle 8 with the basketball and even the dancing teacher are all special moments in the video. 'Genie' on the other hand doesn't really have any of those iconic scenes and mostly feels full of clunky attempts at sensual dancing. Bland package in comparison. 'Genie' doesn't really feel like a Christina song. Like you don't even get any vocal exercises in there and it seems so "Christina told to write a "controv" song to get a hit". I don't really feel like it comes naturally to her. Also, the song feels kinda limp nowadays for some reason. Was a jam in the past and is very much iconic for her but I'm not sure that's a good thing. Feel like she'd prefer being associated with stuff like 'Beautiful' (which shows off her always strong ballads), 'Ain't No Other Man' (a souvenir of the (brief) period where she could experiment and entrance the public in doing so) and 'Lady Marmalade' (a duet with three other big stars where she outshone the others by a country mile). Thankfully those songs are all associated with her alongside 'Genie'. Doesn't improve the comparison though, 'Baby' is infinitely more fitting as Britney's classic début. tl;dr: 'Baby' is super mega iconic, 'Genie' is too but just isn't as perfect. p.s I'm listening to 'My Only Wish (This Year') and it's just as fabulous in March p.p.s I look forward to rating more Brit vs Xtina stuff, random suggestions being Slave vs Dirrty and a rate of the rest of their respective début album campaigns (Christina had 3 #1s from hers after all...) and a rate of their CHRISTMAS SONGS p.p.p.s Merry March
