  1. Or maybe because it's not a UK-centric chart thread. But that would be too logical.
  2. Exactly. $880,000 for the biggest song since 'Happy' over its biggest period of success is actually very low. Not completely negligible, no, but I'm sure Mark Ronson isn't retiring off whatever chunk of the $880,000 he gets.
  3. I don't see where your investment in this is coming from outside of loving to bitch but if you want to make posts criticising people and their decisions in future then I would suggest you look at Tim's post for criticism with both reason and a brain behind it.
  4. If it helps I never liked her! :D
  5. I don't think even 'Perfume' was doomed to flop, but after they decided interesting videos weren't what Britney should be doing anymore, its fate was sealed.
  6. From what I gather it was intended to be a single following 'Outrageous', with '(I Got That) Boom Boom' also intended for release (they were going for a long campaign I guess). But once the 'Outrageous' incident happened the era had to be pulled quickly, and the Greatest Hits happened instead. Mind you, I'm not sure on that, but I read it that one time.
  7. Not really. His last album opened with 50k but that one actually had a really big hit attached to it.
  8. The complete list of Cheryl singles to miss the Radio 1 A-list includes not just 'I Don't Care' but also 'Under The Sun' and 'The Flood'.
  9. No way are they gonna do that much :o
  10. I don't know where their vague popularity comes from but I'm saying 25k.

First, list your top 10 scrobbled artists... 1. Shy'm 2. Ellie Goulding 3. Britney Spears 4. Little Boots 5. Lana Del Rey 6. Mylene Farmer 7. M.I.A. 8. Kylie Minogue 9. Marina & The Diamonds 10. Cheryl Cole What was the first song you ever heard by 6? 'Oui mais... non' What is your favourite album of 2? Probably Lights, it's a cute listen. Halcyon is probably better but heavier. What is your favourite lyric that 5 has sung? "I can be your china doll if you wanna see me fall" or on a more fun note, "Yeah my boyfriend's pretty cool, but he's not as cool as me". What is your favourite song by 7? 'XXXO' What is a good memory you have involving the music of 10? Hearing about the massive increase of particular clothing sales following the 'Promise This' X Factor performance. Is there a song by 3 that makes you sad? 'Brave New Girl' always stirs up emotions. What is your favourite lyric that 2 has sung? "I just wish I knew the truth as to why I wait for you longer than the average person would" What is your favourite song by 9? 'Obsessions' How did you get into 3? I heard 'Toxic' and then I heard 'Everytime' and then I heard 'My Prerogative' and generally the whole "Britney defined 2004" thing had a large impact on me. What was the first song you heard by 1? Probably 'Je sais', not the best start. What is your favourite song by 4? 'New In Town'. Is there a song of 8 that makes you sad? Maybe 'Stars' - Kylie doesn't really do sad for me. What is your favourite album of 5? Born To Die I suppose. What is your favourite lyric that 4 has sung? "Cos I know how it feels to be alone, when strangers only make you feel the cold. You never ever felt so far from home, you never felt so far from home". What is your favourite album of 1? Caméléon. What was the first song you heard by 8? 'Spinning Around'.

Unfortunately the sales numbers have been like that for years now. It's on a downward trend but I'm not shocked to see them. I would imagine part of the problem is trying to find a good weighting - if they include streaming with the same 100 : 1 ratio that the UK uses then sales will suddenly shoot up a lot but it would also lead to streaming making up like 75% of the chart "points"... And that'd be a somewhat extreme jump from sales being 100% dominant. It's also arguably a bad thing for the French music industry because like with the somewhat smaller British artists, I can't imagine most French artists will do as well on streaming as they do on sales. And chart positions matter, even if they care for them less in France than in the UK.
  13. How is Nicki holding up so well right now? She really should be long gone from the top 10.
  14. What a terribly basic song.
  15. It's not like the Missy songs are unknown
  16. It'd be amazing if Missy could become a relevant artist again off the back of this.
  17. The first picture is beyond fabulous.
  18. Of course :o I didn't think to look. Here: 4. Katy Perry - Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection 8. Katy Perry - PRISM 11. Katy Perry - One of The Boys 13. Katy Perry - Teenage Dream 14. Katy Perry - PRISM (Deluxe Version) 68. Katy Perry - Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection 96. Katy Perry - Teenage Dream Interesting to see Teenage Dream selling so much more than PRISM, but it's not too surprising really.
  19. Superbowl effect for Katy seems a bit muted, strange to see Missy benefiting so much more.

Well in a discussion about songs being singles (i.e. commercial vehicles for sales) then I think doing well should be the defining factor of what should and shouldn't have been one. For example, I really don't like 'California Gurls' at all but you'd be crazy to think that shouldn't have been a single. Same for 'Roar'.

Pretty good summary of Nic's career.
  23. The UK public is exactly the same as every other public. You realise most of those songs have done well everywhere else, too?
  24. my god
  25. If you were expecting/hoping for a peak in the mid-teens then yes she was climbing at a good rate but the speed of her climb was nowhere near fast enough for the kind of position one would expect from her (i.e top 3 on iTunes). So it was a slow climb, and I'm not surprised she's stalled as a result.
