I'm guessing it's no coincidence that We Are The World was one second longer than the record holder at the time. Wait oops just saw I Feel Love. That probably had a radio edit that was shorter.

I think there's an app/website out there that randomly selects songs on Spotify with 0 plays. Or is it YouTube. I don't remember.

That article cites The Sun as its source. 'Nuff said.

Huh? One Dance's peak on US Spotify was 2.7 million.

MOR has been around for decades.

Santana's last chart hit before Smooth was 20 years beforehand.

It happened on 30/1/2005 as well 01. Elvis Presley - It's Now Or Never (unless you count this as a re-entry) 02. Ashanti - Only U 04. One World Project - Grief Never Grows Old 06. Lovefreekz - Shine 08. Freefaller - Do This Do That 09. Xzibit - Hey Now 10. Hanson - Penny & Me This week's sales article also mentioned it happening on 27/2/2005, but one of those entries was a re-entry These are the ones I found from the 90's after quickly skimming through. Don't think it happened before 1997. 28/2/1999 02. Blur - Tender 03. Whitney Houston - It's Not Right, But It's Okay 04. Stereophonics - Just Looking 05. Cher - Strong Enough 07. Cardigans - Erase/Rewind 09. Shawn Mullins - Lullaby 10. Elton John & LeAnn Rimes - Written In The Stars 22/11/1998 02. Five - Until The Time Is Through 03. Celine Dion & R Kelly - I'm Your Angel 04. Vengaboys - Up And Down 06. Corrs - So Young 08. Sash! feat. Shannon - Move Mania 09. Shania Twain - From This Moment On 10. Ruff Driverz Pts Arrola - Dreaming 13/7/1997 01. Oasis - D'You Know What I Mean 03. Coolio feat. 40 Thevz - C U When U Get There 04. Gala - Freed From Desire 05. Michael Jackson - History/Ghosts 07. Shaggy feat. Marhsa - Piece Of My Heart 09. R Kelly - Gotham City 10. Babyface feat. Stevie Wonder - How Come, How Long 13/4/1997 02. Blur - Song 2 03. Orbital - The Saint 05. Course - Ready Or Not 07. Shola Ama - You Might Need Somebody 08. Kavana - MFEO 09. Suede - Lazy 10. Texas - Hello

^ or half of Michael Jackson's number ones for that matter

Snap! only had number ones in the 90's :kink:

So Ed has a chance of beating of Oasis' first week sales (depending on which figure you use) to be the second fastest selling album of all time. He's already sold enough to have the biggest sales week by a male solo artist.

The singles chart was only fast moving and diverse in the past because it was heavily manipulated to be that way. There was nothing accurate about songs being held back for 2 months and going 5-16-37-out, and not being able to chart any longer due to deletion. I'd argue the chart was just as difficult to take seriously in those days.

+5 Katy Perry feat. Skip Marley – Chained To The Rhythm +4 Jax Jones feat. RAYE - You Don't Know Me +3 Calvin Harris feat. Frank Ocean & Migos +2 Stormzy - Big For Your Boots +1 Rag'n'Bone Man - Human -1 Ed Sheeran - Castle On The Hill -2 The Chainsmokers - Paris -3 Ed Sheeran – Shape Of You -4 The Chainsmokers & Coldplay - Something Just Like This -5 Kygo & Selena Gomez - It Ain't Me

In other news, Closer has surpassed Sorry and is now the third most streamed track on Spotify (globally). I imagine it'll pass Lean On in a couple more months...

I managed to edit it into one image with Paint http://i.imgur.com/Po4yqWM.png

They just played this before the chart show began, so twice in the span of 20 minutes.

The record Katy broke was for an American female artist, which excludes Adele and Rihanna from the equation.

That Isaiah song even charted in the top 20 in Sweden. The power of Spotify playlists.

All Of Me and Pompeii

Dark Horse might honestly be her biggest hit in the US, going just by chart runs. Radio would not let go of that song there. I believe it's her longest charting song on the Hot 100 too. My point is, Prism gave Katy two of the biggest hits of her career. That alone is enough to call the era a success. It might not have matched the success of Teenage Dream, but that was never going to happen. Teenage Dream is one of those eras that comes once in an artist's career. The problem with that era was the single choices. Walking On Air should've been released, especially with the resurgence of deep house in 2014.
