  2. Since he is releasing a double Christmas album, I think there is potential for a great mix of original Christmas songs and covers. Casual listeners prefer covers on Christmas albums, but every artist also wants a few new songs to have their own Christmas songs.
  3. Little Mix - Touch
  4. WLM was fine. The rest of the album was a problem.
  5. Chart positions and peaks don't matter that much in the streaming era. Streams trickle in overtime and accumulate.
  6. Nah, you just have to accept that the streaming era is here. Streaming has been replacing sales for years now. Not using streaming to put this list together would be unfair to Little Mix and all new girlbands. It's time to accept that people have different preferences for consuming music now.
  7. Yeah, WLM was the most obvious single choice on the album. The girls obviously loved "Strip" and wanted it to be a single, even the lead. But SYCO didn't see it as a suitable single material. Ultimately, the labels pick/approve and support singles. I don't think any other major label would deem "Strip" a good single choice. What halted LM5 album campaign was that after WLM there was no other strong single choice on the album. "Think About Us" is a bit too bland and definitely not strong enough. The girls need to put more thought and effort into their singles. The singles drive their success on all fronts. Also, good music videos help. They need to make music videos with replay value.
  8. LOL. If the girls had it their way, "Strip" would be the first single. I don't think "Strip" would do better than "Woman Like Me" on the charts and I don't think it would sell more albums than WLM. The problem with this album campaign was that the girls weren't focused on making potential poppy hit singles, they went more RnB and urban and Syco forced WLM on them, hoping to salvage the campaign. Sadly, this only solved the problem for the first single. "Strip" was released together with "More Than Words" and both songs had a cheap video and Syco moved the girls to RCA. "Think About Us" was released with a remix, this is all we need to know about what the label(s) thought about LM5's potential. No need to blame WLM for anything. The fans might not like it because it was forced upon the girls, but in the end the girls are to blame for not presenting the label with music that the label could get behind. Labels don't move mountains for songs and albums they don't trully believe in. Also, I don't think another major label would fully get behind "Strip" as the lead single from LM5.
  9. In the streaming era, the whole albums get "consumed" in the first two to three weeks after the release. That's why many popstars release multiple singles before the album release. Just look at Ariana Grande, she released the third and so far it looks like final single from her latest album along with the album.
  10. Nah, "Strip" was never going to do well. I understand the girls really like that song, but as a single was never going to work and no major label was going to support it. The girls messed up and prematurely ended the era by not having at least three strong pop singles. "Woman Like Me" did well and SYCO made it a single for a good reason. But that was also the strongest candidate for a single. The girls played the game so well during the "Get Weird" and "Glory Days" eras, but this time they failed. Perhaps they thought they had so much success that they could stop playing the game and still be successful. They were proven wrong.
  11. Yeah, pure pop and pop RnB is their bread and butter. They can do more experimental and RnB musc, but they have to keep it as album tracks only. The singles have to be pop. Oh and they should stay away from 'Only You's. That song is way too bland. The girls need to bring some character and sass.
  12. I think 'Woman Like Me' was the right choice for the lead single. The problem with this album is that it doesn't have any other STRONG potential singles. If they had half a dozen potemtial singles on the album, and didn't mess up their relationship with SYCO by pushing 'Strip' as a single, the era would be more successful.
  13. My most streamed track of 2018 is 'One Kiss' at 129, followed by 'IDGAF' at 103 and 'Friends' at 99. My 20th most streamed song is 'Rise' by Jonas Blue at 67.
  14. According to Leona, 'One More Sleep' is Gold. https://twitter.com/leonalewis/status/1074023045445099521
  15. So, I've carefully read this thread and in my opinion, there is no need to censor the f word in this song. Words can have several different meanings. Some of those meanings are positive, some neutral and some negative. The context the word was used in tells us which meaning applies in every individual case. In this song, I think meaning of the 'f*****' is 'a lazy person'. It makes the most sense. I see no reason why the word 'f*****' should be censored in this context. I understand some gay people don't want to hear the f word in any context, but tough luck, many people hate/get triggered by certain words and most of those words never get censored. FONY was never meant to be a cheerful, syrupy, 'all bells, candy canes, presents and christmas trees' kind of a Christmas song. It should be left as it is. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Personally, I don't like word censoring in songs, period. If the songs has words censored, I always opt for the uncensored version. If I like the song, I continue listening to the uncensored version. If I don't like the song, I don't listen to the song period.
  16. Yeah. I also enjoy Jordin Sparks' 'Christmas Time to Me' along with the songs listed above.
  17. Yeah, this song really isn't a single material. I'm not even sure if this is meant to be a proper single. This got a low budget music video and was released on album release day together with another low budget music video for another song. So, I wonder if this is even getting a proper push.
  18. Aren't Little Mix signed to Columbia Records in the US?
  19. I really don't see the need, since songs can be certified 2X, 3X, etc. Platinum. Also, no song has acheved 10X Platinum (Diamond) certification yet.
  20. The thing to keep in mind: the article does not say that every popular album release will be premium only. The labels will decide on case by case basis. Chances are Ed Sheeran's album would still be available to everyone. And hip-hop/rap artists probably won't opt for that, either.
  21. Um, I get what the guy was trying to say. The streams are double counted since the same streams are used for both charts, but they don't care since both charts measure different things. One is for the popularity of the individual tracks and one for the popularity of the album as a whole. They don't see an issue for the singles chart if people stream the whole album from start to finish since they count each individual stream as separate. Oh and in this day and age, every single album track can be considered 'a single'. Songs don't have to be annointed from the labels, be pushed to radio or have a music video.
  22. Yeah, I don't know. It looks like Russia has no intention to win Eurovision this year.
  23. She was on Russian X Factor in 2013. She is severely disabled, in a wheelchair. https://static.life.ru/posts/2016/10/924013...89fe1__980x.jpg
  24. The winning song is okay, I guess. Probably the right choice based on what was on offer in the final. That said, I find the lyrics and the whole act a bit off putting. No song or performance in the final came close to 'Statements'. I actually went and downloaded the song from iTunes.
  25. The OCC is supposed to track the methods of music consumption that make the music industry money. If the younger demographic outstreams and completely dwarfs the impact of sales, that's not really a problem for them. Sales are still included in the chart - but as streaming grows, their impact is getting smaller. Trying to protect the representation of older music consumers in the chart at all costs is not going to provide the real picture of the music consumption. Mind you, some older music consumers switched to streaming, too. Isn't streaming 97% or so of Sweden's singles' chart? Well, prepare for that in a few years. If you just want a diverse chart, perhaps it's time for the OCC to stop collecting the sales and streaming data and start doing surveys of chart fans on forums like this one so the OCC can compile charts that the chart fans will enjoy.
