  1. I actually thought this has been one of the most under-promoted K songs. For ATL, wasn't she all over UK TV doing all sorts of regional interviews? this time around., looks like they're hoping The Voice keeps her in people's minds and let the song and radio airplay do the talking. I'm hoping she gets a bigger hit with the Enrique song (and hopefully R1 support).

The fact that she's signed to Roc Nation for mgmt./record promotion would mean they know what they're doing (if Rita Ora and Rihanna are anything to go by). My theory is that they're going for a slow burn - make some noise with the first single and take the hype up with singles 2 , 3 and 4. If single 2 is the Enrique song, it hopefully means it'll get R1 playlist (and hope they don't pull a "Higher" on that!)
  3. I don't so much "blame" Ireland because they are geographically close to the UK. But Australia's fascination for the US never ceases to amaze me. By that yardstick, I quite like the NZ charts - they seem so much more, erm "independent". Didn't even Gwyneth Paltrow have a huge hit in Aus in the early part of the century? :D
  4. Again, sorry for dragging Kylie back to the topic, but another example is when a Kylie song doesn't do well and everyone's like "oh she doesn't do well here anymore because she needs to promote". I often want to ask them why a JLo or a Britney would do well as they hardly promote there! It's sad they live in denial that they're a US-wannabe country when it comes to taste in popular culture.
  5. Aussies would listen to anything as long as it says "made in America". Being a Kylie fan for instance, during the Aphrodite promotions there (she did a bunch of news interviews and perfs on 2 shows), they never mentioned her being the 1st female artist to score #1s in 4 decades in the UK...no. All they were blabbing on about is Aphrodite going top 20 on the US Billboard chart. Infact in the last couple of years, I'm surprised British artists don't have to break it in the US to make it to the Aus charts as Mumford and Sons, Passenger, Naughty Boy and Rudimental have all demonstrated. And now that Clean Bandit song is doing well too (and deservedly so, I love it!).
  6. I've been out of touch for a while but has US radio embraced 1D's Story of my life song? That's a pretty good sign if so, and perhaps bodes well for a 4th album.

Also is it just me or are some of you really underestimating her first week sales to be less than 50K? I get that albums aren't selling well now but for a heritage/established act who's got a big radio hit, I think she'll do more if not at least 50K!

Nice!! Do you have a link? I couldn't find it on google. Also on a Kylie related subject, is Say Hey down? I predict someone leaked the entire album and so it shut?

I wouldn't be confident on the single going to #1 or top 3, but the album has a great chance of getting to #1. Like Madonna, Kylie has that legacy fanbase (at least 50K?) who'll buy anything she puts out (gold or turd) and in the current album market, that should be enough for a #1. How much it will totally sell is a different story. Let's also not forget the added viewership with The Voice which would probably be more beneficial than an X Factor appearance (isn't this the first time she's been on TV screens consistently since Neighbours?!)
  10. I'm just so happy Naughty Boy's finally cracking the US. I hope this is as big a hit in the US as it's been in the rest of the world!
  11. And yes, great to see the Brit action... and look at John Newman there comfortably in the lower top 40! I wonder who else is on the radar though. Is the Naughty Boy "la la" getting a release seeing as its done well internationally? And have they given up on the Emeli Sande project and just waiting for album #2 for a new round of US promo? What about Little Mix? I heard the 2nd album was coming in Feb but no news of any single yet?
  12. Is this 1D song becoming one of their longest lasting hits? Pretty good for a boyband to be on their 3rd studio album and still able to please radio.

Agree with everyone else here - great song, Kylie's never done a song like this and it's got a great tune. But there seems to be a bias for women past 40 as far as R1 is concerned. There are exceptions though (like didn't R1 play the hell out of Madonna's Confessions in 2005?) so we can only hope that her being a judge on a BBC show makes all applicable BBC Radio stations playlist the song. I'll also be keen to see what kind of 'image' goes with this song. I loved the "mature" image of "all the lovers" but with "Get outta my way", a lot of teens I know said she was being a Gaga wannabe (I disagree, but those kids make up the big record buying demographic).
  14. The trend with British artists in the US these days is - more acts seem to be known these days than before (chances are more Americans know who Little Mix are than, say 5 yrs ago Girls Aloud). But after Adele and maybe 1D, there hasn't been that staple chart or radio hit by a British artist. They all seem to start fine, get fancy TV promos and race up the BB 100 and iTunes to peak inside the top 20 at best - Labrinth, Emeli Sande, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, etc. So whilst I'm happy Bastille cracked the top 50 and John Newman is Bubbling Under, I really won't be holding out for a top 10 position for either.
  15. I haven't heard the album to comment, but it really does sound like there's Gaga fatigue at the moment. Reason I'm surprised is because I've seen the likes of Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Perry, etc. all making pop songs with the same kind of style. publicity, paparazzi attention, etc. Rihanna puts out an album every year and yet chartwise, there has been no "fatigue"! Gaga took 3 yrs to release her album... so wonder what went wrong.
  16. Adele still in the charts?! How much has the "21" sold in the US now?
  17. Nice to see a consistent representation of foreign acts on the Hot 100 these days.
  18. Is this one of 1D's better performing songs on US radio?
  19. How reflective are the iTunes chart in Germany of the overall singles chart? France for example - the song's position on iTunes is so diff from the overall chart.
  20. Yeah, the advantage with Rihanna is in addition to her own songs, she 'features' on a bunch of other rappers' as well.
  21. I really like Olly so good luck to him!
  22. Agree :D at 1D's drop! Their sales and streaming are so obviously front-loaded! Shame about Labrinth's drop. The song really did have the potential to be a big crossover US hit. Don't know why it's not picking up. It's kind of been the same for a lot of UK artists - unlike before, they ARE having hits (I'm thinking Emeli's Next to me, Ed Sheeran's Lego House, etc.). But Top 40/30 hits at best and no top 5's or #1s. Has Wanted's Rihanna song charted/released in the US?
  23. Yes. The thing is - Ellie has really been working her arse off promoting in the US market from as long as I can remember. She relentlessly toured for Lights, I even recall her giving a 2 hr show at a local Best Buy in Minneapolis during winter to promote her songs. She's now opening act for Bruno Mars and again, is touring the US.... she's doing everything right in my books. The problem is that radio just doesn't want to play her songs, and hence the average listener has no clue who she is, or that she's got a new record out. The fact that 'Burn' spent nearly a week in the iTunes top 20 on release without a modicum of airplay speaks for her growing fanbase and recognition in the US. But then again, in this country, no radio support means you'll be dead and gone in a few years' (or months') time.
  24. 1D falling fast!
