iTunes Chart November (III)
She's already been on Xtra Factor, no chance she'll be on the main show as well. Daddy is a great song but it won't perform better than Heaven. Definately X Factor number 1, wouldn't surprise me if DWMT overtakes Rihanna to get number 2 after his X Factor performance, I don't know what else is out though.

Rebecca Ferguson - Heaven
Fairytale is a good song but most of the album will be a bit too subdued for my tastes, and there's no life in her performances. I can see what they're doing but I actually would rather of heard her singing stuff like Heaven by Sande. I think her voice would suit a 90's dance music style and she only really picked up steam last year when she started doing that kind of thing. You really thought Rebecca was gonna beat Olly? Come on now... especially not with that whisper of a song.

JLS - 3rd Album Jukebox// Singles
Rihanna does the same, they just want to capitalise on their young fanbase while they're still young I suppose.

The rumours about the duets are never totally right. Wouldn't surprise me to see Buble trotted out though. I'd want him if I was them then I could enjoy runner up success!

Michael Buble - First Xmas album to ever top the charts!
Bought it for my mother, he'll get alot of sales through that kind of thing. His fanbase are used to covers so it's no surprise it did well. It's not a bad album actually, coulda been worse.

"was 6k lead yesterday, now its half....come on Murs Army!!!" Was Olly's manager's tweet to me 5 minutes ago. Not happening is it. She's obviously not as well informed as you chart boffins (and me now) if she thinks it's still a goer. White flag time!

Olly Murs - In Case You Didn't Know // 2nd Album
They were good actually, I was surprised at Olly's falsetto on Without You, didn't think he had that in his locker. Does anyone have any experience with preording an album from Play? This album is out on the 28th but they it despatched today, should I expect it on Saturday, Monday or earlier?
-
Reece Mastin - Good Night
He has a good recording voice but they were selling him a rockstar and this is mainstream pop, typuical really. Tbh he probably only won because of his colab with Kylie, he was nearly eliminated a few weeks ago. I guess the voting turns around quickly when only 1.4m people are watching. The winners of Australian singing competitions struggle to make it big, Stan Walker etc. I mean the fella who won last year probably sold about 5 copies of his single or something like that. It's not the same platform that the UK X Factor is. On a related note, it'll be interesting to see if the US X Factor is a better platform than American Idol, it really needs to be.

Does anyone have any experience with preording an album from Play? An album out on the 28th was despatched today, should I expect it on Saturday, Monday or earlier? But it seems like Rihanna can. DWMT isn't awful, its a good song. The only reason I care is that it would be nice for him to be performing his song on X Factor as number 1, I usually couldn't care less about chart positions. Sales are what matter and I know he's doing very well there, I'll leave worrying about chart positions to teenage girls. It's just an illusion to bump sales up, some weeks you can sell about 5 copies and get number 1 so there's no real value in it.

Well I for one am conceding defeat, his manager says Rihanna has halved the gap and could possibly take over Olly by tommorrow. I don't think Gary Barlow and The Wanted tweeting to download the song is gonna swing it somehow! I feared the worst when he was denied his X Factor performance and the fact he couldn't perform his song on tv at all because of that was the final nail in the coffin. Well who cares anyway, the single is still doing well and his album selling well is a given, especially on the back of his X Factor and Xtra Factor performances. He's lucky to be doing the numbers he is when the likes of Pixie Lott are flopping, and he's ahead of the rest of the X Factor pack. 100k is a bit optimistic, his biggest selling hits only just got over that. No way this would have sold more than HSAB which was more of a crossover hit, that only sold 108,000 first week. But there's no doubt he has a higher profile than 1D and a more proven track record of sales.

Gotta be you is a crap song though and it's basically a ballad. Only 1D's fanbase would buy that, Olly's song is a feel good uptempo song, singles buyers love those, it's bound to have more appeal. The fact that you're predicting he'll sell more than 1D backs up that idea. Olly is panicing on twitter though, he's just tweeted this... @ollyofficial "OHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOO!! Rihanna is closing the cap in the charts!! Might not get it now!! We are still ahead!! BUT need to spread the word!!!"

Ok thanks for that, very enlightening! That all sounds logical to me which is shame. I've just been taking what people are saying about Rihanna being number 1 with a pinch of salt since the predictions that WFL would massacre DWMT by some people at the start of the week. I said it's not a foregone conclusion and I've been proved right so at least that's something. Some things to consider... 1. Could Saturday not actually be a strong day for DWMT as alot of people could discover the song then, it's pretty fresh. 2. Olly could get a nice sales kick after Saturday's Xtra Factor like he did last Sundays. 3. He's doing promotion this week, Rihanna isn't. 4. Rihanna's sales could slow down, I mean won't the sales of her multiple copies slow down after the boost of the new album wears off? And how many people don't have the song by now. I don't reckon any of these things are massive factors on their own but they could combine to keep Olly's nose just ahead. I mean I don't know much about chart trends but DWMT is a pretty damn catchy song and trends don't go on forever. Just balancing the argument as most seem to be sold on the notion of Rihanna at number 1 again.

What is this weekend effect and why won't it affect Rihanna? 12 hours ago Olly had sold 34,000 copies and was over 7000 ahead of WFL. How far was Rihanna behind Flo Rida in the midweeks last week?

Nooooooooooooooooooo. I want Dermot to congratulate Olly on being number 1 live on the X Factor after his performance. Would be a sweet moment.

Yeah Matt dominated last years X Factor in terms of votes and he even won despite being ill for the last 3 weeks. He was a deserved winner based on performances and his album is decent. All it proves is that Run for your life is awful. If he'd released Starlight instead he would have been top 3 IMO. Rebecca played it too safe to deserve the win but she's looking like developing into a tidy artist... Fairtytale is a good song.

So I can relax in the knowledge that Olly will probably be number 1 then? She's 15% behind on the popularity bars, you really think she's sold that many other copies to put her 10% ahead?
-
iTunes Chart November (III)
Olly is 7,000 copies ahead of Rihanna, is that alot? Rihanna sold 66,941 last week and Olly's last single sold 108,000 in it's first week. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

You know what, you're half right. On a second listen of the album... Where have you been is actually quite good but it's not that distinctive so there's no way it'd be bigger than WFL, it doesn't have that killer hook. Plus the fact it isn't the 2nd single probably means that her team probably think it's a bit too simlar to WFL anyway. Roc me out could be a hit, not massive but it could do alright. You da one is rubbish, terrible decision to make that 2nd single. Talk that talk is paint by numbers Rihanna. We all want love won't be a single is because of how similar the title is to We found love IMO but it's betetr than You da one.

One Direction - Up All Night
BuzzLightyear posted a post in a topic in Harry Styles and One Direction's Harry Styles and One Direction2nd single maybe shoulda been More than this, it's a strong track. It's sounds like the autotune machine singing Take That's Babe in the style of Backstreet boys, but for some reason it's quality! :D 3rd single Stole my heart, trance songs seem to be massive atm, good track although the chorus is a bit childish.

Levels is a quality song, has it even had airplay? It's been on my running playlist for a week or two. In terms of hits, Rihanna's new album isn't a patch on Loud. WFL will be the only big hit IMO. Andfor me it's not anywhere near as good quality wise ether. 2nd single should have been We all want love but the rest aren't up to much. I guess it's hard to maintain quality when you release an album every year. She should have held a hit over from her last album like Cheers or S&M.

iTunes Chart: November 2011 (II)
Rihanna is 0.8243 on the popularity bars. Olly's lead is more like 20%, without her X Factor performance or if Olly had one she'd have no chance. And yes the gap is increasing all the time. Olly has promotion lined up for this week on radio 1 etc so I can't see how Rihanna is gonna claw it back. I certainly wouldn't be confident of it anyway. Surely negated by Olly's ep sales. They probably all add up to about 100 units or something miniscule like that. I mean 532? ;)
-
Pixie Lott - Young Foolish Happy
Yikes, she's making Joe McElderry look big time! She's gorgeous, nice, good dancer, great voice, good writer, the papers love writing about her... it must be the singles. Two generic songs IMO. Also I think her fanbase is very young and will probably mainly buy stuff they hear on the radio?

iTunes Chart: November 2011 (II)
Well alot of people, myself included, don't buy singles, they wait for the albums and get it on there, Olly has diverse appeal and I can see his older fans doing that. that said, Olly has sold over 400,000 copies of HSAB which is pretty good and it's still selling. He's that increasingly rare thing, especially in X Fator alumni, a pop artist who can sell albums as well as singles. Anyway, I totally agree that it's easy to like someone on Facebook, but as far as Twitter goes, you soon unfollow people you don't like, especially when they tweet as often as Olly does. He will have some who just follow him cos he's famous but at the end of the day its all good as they're a captive audience ripe for promotion. And as for the tour, well I bet there aren't many seats going spare come the start of it, the fact that he's playing arenas so early in his career is pretty impressive if you ask me.

That'll be because they've recently added an extra date there, as the first date there was selling so well. He's doing a few more venues twice as well due to great sales. Also who cares how much his last album sold, when as we've been talking about so I'm sure your aware, he's gained alot of new fans in a year. Still, his last album sold brilliantly. Watch how many his new one sells, his new single wouldn't be number 1 without his fanbase putting their money where their tweets are. ;)

And why shouldn't he promote himself on his own twitter account? Most artists accounts are merely promotional tools that the artists don't even tweet on, but he's always tweeting random stuff which is what it's meant for. Hey, you have to promote your songs, everyone does it. The most succesful artists are harnessing the power of social media these days. Fans enjoy being part of a collective push for number 1.
