Girls' Generation appreciation thread
They're very Lady Gagesque aren't they. I do find it hard to distinguish between their vocals, must be alot of autotune going on and or maybe one of them just sings the whole thing. Something I've noticed about this lot is the worse looking ones are the ones who do most of the singing. And probably the most ordinary one was voted most popular, found that out in my fruitless attempt to find out what the fittest one was called. Maybe she's more relatable but she probably has a high profile sideline, alot of them do other stuff as well as the band as they've all been in some kind of fame school since they were kids. Who's the girl in the centre at the start of this performance? She's my favourite but she hardly does anything... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TflVSzQQcXs...&lf=mh_lolz

Olly Murs - In Case You Didn't Know // 2nd Album
'I need you now' is Olly's best song ever IMO. Should be 4th single as there'll be no pressure on the chart position then, should shift a few more albums, showing a different aspect to it. 'Oh my goodness' will be the next single according to Greg James. Top song, good ambassador for the album, but no real lyrical hook, think it could struggle in the charts.

Joe McElderry - Classic + Classic Christmas
No of course he doesn't have a god given right to number 1, but he was number 1 for most of the week til Friday, that's why he got so involved in it, he only expected top 5. He was saying that because so many of his fans were mentioning that he got number 2 that number 2 was trending on Twitter! He was reasuring them. Anyway some chart news you might be interested in... "This week’s market further throws the spotlight on the relative fortunes of Joe McElderry and Olly Murs since they finished in first and second places respectively on The X Factor 2009. While Murs’ new album should debut at number one this week, McElderry’s own brand new album, the UCJ-handled Classic Christmas, is down in 12th place." Don't worry, his sales should be good enough to keep him on his label, sales are still quite decent down in those places at this time of year. http://www.musicweek.com/story.asp?section...1047676&c=1

Tinie - Disc-overy - 1.5m Sold?
Very strange then.

Tinie - Disc-overy - 1.5m Sold?
Yeah I was bloody shocked and sceptical at that. He won't have sold 800k in the U.S either. Wonder if he's popular in Europe or they're counting singles sales?

I would definately have a go on this lot. I like that Mr Taxi performance where they wear yellow outfits. Bang tidy. Discovered them in the youtube top 100 chart, very popular aren't they.

Joe McElderry - Classic + Classic Christmas
Olly didn't say anything bad and I saw no abuse but I guess you must follow alot of highly strung Joe fans who think Olly can control what the most controversial comic in Britain Jimmy Carr says. Joe is constantly brought up in Olly interviews and he sticks up for him every time. You can't count Joe in the albums thing, he's bringing a new one out every 5 minutes now, it takes longer to release your own stuff. Yes he was wrong about it though cos Shane Ward did do at least 3 and a couple sold well. Thanks for that info, funnily enough I'm following that Mark guy anyway so I'll check that interview out. Cover albums... you pick popular songs and you sing them, it's that simple. When you're selling to grannies you don't even put your own spin on the songs you just sing them how they're used to hearing them or they won't like it. Joe can sing the songs on Classic in a few takes, he did most live on tv, so it's not exactly hard work is it. I mean compare how long it takes to simply record vocals to writing your own songs from scratch. I tell you what, the charts would be pretty boring if everyone just covered the same songs over and over instead of releasing original songs! Btw people do remember number 1 songs. Why would Olly be singing classical, he'd never want to as he'd rather sing stuff he's into! Did Joe even know any opera songs before he went on the show? Olly knows pop is where his strength lies, he's very self aware and that's stood him in good stead, not trying to be anything he's not and knowing who he is as an artist. In contrast Joe is still singing The Cimb at the end of gigs, a song most find cringeworthy and reckon was the beginning of the end for his pop career, that's exactly the kind of lack of self awareness that saw him flop first time round. Ok he was badly handled promotion wise but he steered the musical direction based on his personal taste.

Joe McElderry - Classic + Classic Christmas
Cheryl Cole will still sell well when she returns tbh, she's by no means finished, I don't think they're really comparable apart from being helped by a tv show, she had alot more exposure than Olly anyway. Besides Olly will always have the annual X Factor performance, should tide him over. I didn't see that interview, who was that with? The thing is, contrary to what some people think, Olly has something of an inferiority complex and he sets low targets. The last one I heard him set was a couple more arena tours after this one, which he'll easily get, that's what keeps him humble I suppose. But he's going to have a better career than he thinks. I do think Olly beng involved with music programmes would stand him in good stead though. If TOTP came back for example that'd be perfect for him to maintain his profile. He's definately thinking of his music first from what I've heard from him in his interviews, I think he has alot left in the tank yet. Yes I just saw that got played on radio 1, quite a coup for him, I was shocked tbh! Universal's radio pluggers doing their thing, their artists seem well looked after. As for credit, Joe deserved credit for having the balls to put himself through another reality show. It's easy to sing covers though, you can churn out album after album with little effort. I'm sure you'd rather he came out with original material. It was opportunism from the record company although very shrewd. He's definately turned it around from a sales perspective which is the most important factor, selling more than the likes of the hyped Cher, but his public perception is gonna need a lot of work. Did you see 8 out of 10 cats the other week? Slagged off on that. And he was basically ignored in favour of Olly on Live at the Apollo. He's a nice guy, he doesn't deserve bad treatment.

Wonderland - Debut Album
Little Mix will blow both of them out of the water. If they don't then there's really no market for an uber successful girlband. I wonder who is supporting Olly on his arena tour? Both acts (Wonderland and some lame boyband) who supported his last tour have now split! Parade supported him at GAY and they've went too.

Diana Vickers - Music To Make Boys Cry
It all depends on the songs, she needs to come back with a bang, a big radio hit. Pixie Lott is even flopping so I wouldn't be banking on Diana making it past her 2nd album tbh. Her last album sales were just enough for another crack so it's all or nohing with this one.

Joe McElderry - Classic + Classic Christmas
I don't know who will last longer but Olly's star is gonna shine brighter while he's successful and Joe will have to last a hell of alot longer to match his sales. Olly's first album will end up selling more than all three of Joe's put together and his second will probably sell more than the first. Joe is only young, he could become some kind of Michael Ball character and do musicals etc, he might become a national treasure type, I could see that. He's getting more promotion at his current label, I saw an ad for his album on primetime ITV so the pressure is really on him to make the label some money back on their investment. In any case it's nice that he's getting backed eh. It depends on what Joe does really, he should have tried doing Will Young stuff, I could see him singing Jealousy and songs like that. Songs that pander to the radio 2 audience that Joe seems to appeal to, it's a lucrative market. Does he have the personality/right tone in his voice for pop songs though, I dunno. I think it'd be worth another crack at that but I don't know if his label are any good at that kind of record. Whoever is looking after Will Young, that's who Joe needs onside.

Olly Murs - In Case You Didn't Know // 2nd Album
Number 1 on Itunes! Rightfully so tbh, it's better than Rihanna, Buble and One Direction's.

iTunes Album Chart: 2012
Olly is on top of the chart, hopefully he'll take revenge on Rihanna! Bit worried that he's only 4 on HMV's chart though, maybe they don't update that very often. Also only 4 on Amazon as well. Also Rihanna has two versions of her album out. Is there a popularity bar for Itunes albums? And we do we get midweek positions and sales figures?

The Buzzjack Sunday Chart Show Thread
Oh not you again! I hardly think someone like you is in a position to be objective about his performance, you'd made your mind up before it even started. All that matters is the exposure. Nice HMV ad for his album there too, plus that Vegas competition is still going. Tbh it'd just annoy me if he got number 2 to a default number 1 anyway so I hope you're right. That said, it's easy to support international superstars in chart battles isn't it, how brilliant of you!

I can see Olly getting number 2 again next week but being well beaten by the X factor single.

So albums hit the charts from 12am tonight onwards then don't they, a very congested battle this week!

Joe McElderry - Classic + Classic Christmas
Suddenly all your anti Olly posts make sense torresgirl, a Joe fan! I'll name you a song that's stuck around in the charts for a long time (27 this week)... Heart skips a beat. Done wonders for Olly's profile and broke him into the European market. I don't know why Olly is appearing with the muppets (but the headline writers have loved it), it could be a good move though now you mention it, could solidify the kiddie fanbase. It's probably more to do with them giving Simon a wad of cash to promote their film tbh. He has wide appeal though, the same kind of demographic appeal as Take That. I think Joe handed him alot of young fans on a plate after coming out, then PDLMG giving them a good excuse to jump ship before Joe even got started. 200k is good, as long as we don't compare Joe to Olly then he's done well. They were both going for the same audience, it took just a little longer to find his.

Daddy is doing well, quality song.

iTunes Album Chart: 2012
I think Olly stands a good chance of number 1 next week. Westlife should shift a few copies of their greatest hits though. Kelly has quite a few hits on her album, could help her. Buble and Rihanna will put up decent numbers as well, I think it's between those two and Olly really, Westlife the darkhorses. Rebecca will do alright but I don't think she'll be in the running. Number 1 will sell just over 100k this week IMO.

Joe McElderry - Classic + Classic Christmas
I'm glad that Joe has found a niche for himself, as the artist he wanted to be just didn't work, Scissor sisters and Mika knock offs, very disapointing. I hope he proves me wrong but I don't think he has much of a future aunless he reinvents himself againnd I'll tell you why... Joe had great exposure on that opera show which led to great sales but he'll struggle to get his profile as high again. I bet alot of people still think of Joe as a flop and that's becuase he hasn't had a big hit single. He really needs a big hit. I doubt there's longevity in the classical music stuff, so he should have a rethink and bring out some more pop stuff in a different style. He'll have a job on his hands to overturn public perception but if Darius can do it then Joe certainly can! He's not doing himself any favours releasing an album in the same week as Olly's album could get to number 1 though, I've seen a few articles mentioning that battle already and Jimmy Carr bigging up Olly over Joe on primetime tv doesn't help. He deserves success, good luck to him.

Olly Murs - In Case You Didn't Know // 2nd Album
Wow, this album is excellent, it's exactly what I hoped he would be doing while I was watching him on X Factor. I would have left the throwaway 'On my cloud' off it and replaced it with (the admittedly old song) C'mon C'mon. I'll be doing that on my playlist anyway, otherwise I love the rest. And yeah I agree with you about the ballads Jonjo, 'I need you now' actually choked me up and I don't usually get that moved by ANY music, gorgeous ballad It's no wonder it's Olly's favourite on the album as it seems to be him at his most heartfelt and honest. 'Tell the world' has a killer chorus, I'd be surprised if that's not a single, should be the next one. Another option for the next single is 'I'm Ok' but I wouldn't be surprised if they go with something like 'I don't love you too'. I'd love 'I need you now' to get an airing but ballads bomb so I'm 50/50 there. Very impressed. My initial song ranking: 1. I need you now 2. Tell the world 3. Oh my goodness 4. I'm ok 5. In case you didn't know 6. I don't love you too 7. Dance with me tonight 8. Heart skips a beat 9. Anywhere else 10. This song is about you 11. Just smile 12. I've tried everything 13. On my cloud

On Your Radar (4th Studio Album Discussion)
Not me! All Fired up then Faster or White Lies and launch the album, no messing about. They're being looked after by simpletons. The record company will struggle to break even on album sales. They must be quite lucrative in other avenues though.

Olly Murs - In Case You Didn't Know // 2nd Album
Hope you two are buying it, Olly is the kind of guy who deserves the purchase. I should be receiving it tommorrow. From previews it sounds like a consistent sound throughout apart from the singles. That's good as the last album was a bit schizophrenic and copycat, but he knows what he wants to sound like now. 'White boy soul' apparently. The ballads sound stronger so if he really has to show variety then it won't be the disaster Heart on my sleeve was. Hope there are one or two more big hits on it so he can sell even more of this album than the last.

iTunes Chart November (III)
Well I'm a toy and you're a cheese, not really people. ;) Olly sold over 100k first week last time round on the back of similar charting singles and this time he has an X Factor & Xtra Factor performance right before release. He's already number 4 in the HMV album chart on pre orders alone. BUble could cover his way to the top of the charts as per or maybe Rihanna will multiple copy her way to number 1 again! <_<

Christmas no1 single odds
Now the protest has been made I reckon the give a shit level about the christmas number 1 is at an all time low. Nobody cares but the bookies.
