  1. Does anyone think DWMT will sell quite alot next week or not? Olly's album is out, he has his X Factor performance with the muppets, plus he'll be on tv for another 2 and a half hours with another performance of an album track in that time. Could he overtake Rihanna? Pity about the X Factor single really. True but all people give a shit about is number 1's and given the lack of competition I thought he would get it. The public don't know about sales but they always seem to know chart positions. It's like when he got a number 2 album, people don't realise that Take That were selling a gazillion copies a week and he'd have wiped the floor with most other numbers 1's that year. Then Matt Cardle can sell 5 copies and be in a well publicised chart battle with Noel Gallagher who sold about 100,000 copies more than him or something. It's like The Saturday's, whenever they're on tv shows they're introduced as Britain's biggest girlband, which sounds impressive. Well of course they are, who else is there? But do they shift records? Do they buggery. But public perception does matter, especially when it comes to gigs like the Jinglebell Ball etc, Olly is usually on first before less successful artists. That's why i really hope he can get a number 1 album next week.
  2. It must e a bit gutting for Olly though, at the start of the week he must have thought he was gonna be number 1. The thing is that Rihanna isn't really gonna give shit about being number 1 again, whereas it would make his week.
  3. Wow, are One Direction flopping in the album chart? They have two versions at 11 & 17 if you exclude ineligible stuff. Suppose they'll sell a few physicals though. Should be respectable. For some reason they're number 1 in places like Australia!
  4. Some top songs on the album but Little Mix will kill this lot off. They're more relatable than a collection of wags and women who go out with models and they're bouind to open up with a big song. The Saturday's problem is the singles... they've released 3 albums and haven't even had a massive hit yet! They've still flourished due to lack of credible competition but a girl group who can win the X Factor or even make the final will be a massive threat.
  5. Olly was 50 copies ahead of Rihanna last count! Has there been a closer battle this year? Rihanna will probably win by 3,000 or something like that though IMO. She's probably already number 1.

I can see Dizzee Rascal doing this, he needs to get his profile back up and he's clearly got a need to have his ego massaged as he judged that show on sky. They'll need an old male judge to be the Simon Cowell, maybe Cliff Richard. LOL at Reggie saying it's gonna be a credible music show, it's gonna be looked at the same as Idol and X Factor by the music industry.
  7. White Lies is an ABSOLUTE TUNE. I love how for the most part girl and boybands release dance tracks instead of cheese these days. I think The Saturdays best hope of going beyond their fanbase is to continually release dance tracks cos everytime they bring out a dull ballad it's like one step forward two steps back. Their fans don't even like them, they sould leave them as album tracks.
  8. I should be receiving it tommorrow or Saturday, I'll let you all know what it's like.
  9. Rihanna made up 2,000 copies yesterday, only 2,000 behind Olly now, at this rate she'll definately still be number 1.

Even though HSAB hardly sold any CDs I reckon DWMT would have sold more as it's more retro and has more appeal to an older demographic. You can understand the decision though, I still don't know if it would have been justifiable. HAHAHA what are you on about? Anyone can write a song yes but very few can write a good one, even fewer can write hits. Some songs come in 5 minutes but that's after years of honing your craft and the right inspiration striking. Alot of elements have to be right for the magic to happen. People like Adele are coupled with at least one songwriter to write a song and they're usually some guy in his late 30's or 40's who has spent years at it. I think she wrote Hometown Glory by herself though so she has definate songwriting talent. She might as well keep the ball rolling in terms of albums and singles, her massive profile is one of her strengths. She doesn't ahve to go to every little poxy radio station in teh world, her songs sell regardless so she can cherry pick the biggest shows for maximum impact. Touring would be the most tiring thing, The Rolling Stones can do more than her even at their age so she should be alright. She's young, she should work hard while the desire is there.
  11. Saw a webchat with Olly saying he expects to be pipped to the post but he seemed quite upbeat about it really, he only expected DWMT to go top 5. I think he's delighted with the sales, rightly so.
  12. She's already been on Xtra Factor, no chance she'll be on the main show as well. Daddy is a great song but it won't perform better than Heaven. Definately X Factor number 1, wouldn't surprise me if DWMT overtakes Rihanna to get number 2 after his X Factor performance, I don't know what else is out though.
  13. Have they just moved Olly up to the A List today? I'm sure he was on the B List when I looked at it yesterday.
  14. Fairytale is a good song but most of the album will be a bit too subdued for my tastes, and there's no life in her performances. I can see what they're doing but I actually would rather of heard her singing stuff like Heaven by Sande. I think her voice would suit a 90's dance music style and she only really picked up steam last year when she started doing that kind of thing. You really thought Rebecca was gonna beat Olly? Come on now... especially not with that whisper of a song.
  15. Rihanna does the same, they just want to capitalise on their young fanbase while they're still young I suppose.
  16. The rumours about the duets are never totally right. Wouldn't surprise me to see Buble trotted out though. I'd want him if I was them then I could enjoy runner up success!
  17. Bought it for my mother, he'll get alot of sales through that kind of thing. His fanbase are used to covers so it's no surprise it did well. It's not a bad album actually, coulda been worse.
  18. "was 6k lead yesterday, now its half....come on Murs Army!!!" Was Olly's manager's tweet to me 5 minutes ago. Not happening is it. She's obviously not as well informed as you chart boffins (and me now) if she thinks it's still a goer. White flag time!
  19. They were good actually, I was surprised at Olly's falsetto on Without You, didn't think he had that in his locker. Does anyone have any experience with preording an album from Play? This album is out on the 28th but they it despatched today, should I expect it on Saturday, Monday or earlier?
  20. He has a good recording voice but they were selling him a rockstar and this is mainstream pop, typuical really. Tbh he probably only won because of his colab with Kylie, he was nearly eliminated a few weeks ago. I guess the voting turns around quickly when only 1.4m people are watching. The winners of Australian singing competitions struggle to make it big, Stan Walker etc. I mean the fella who won last year probably sold about 5 copies of his single or something like that. It's not the same platform that the UK X Factor is. On a related note, it'll be interesting to see if the US X Factor is a better platform than American Idol, it really needs to be.
  21. Does anyone have any experience with preording an album from Play? An album out on the 28th was despatched today, should I expect it on Saturday, Monday or earlier? But it seems like Rihanna can. DWMT isn't awful, its a good song. The only reason I care is that it would be nice for him to be performing his song on X Factor as number 1, I usually couldn't care less about chart positions. Sales are what matter and I know he's doing very well there, I'll leave worrying about chart positions to teenage girls. It's just an illusion to bump sales up, some weeks you can sell about 5 copies and get number 1 so there's no real value in it.
  22. Well I for one am conceding defeat, his manager says Rihanna has halved the gap and could possibly take over Olly by tommorrow. I don't think Gary Barlow and The Wanted tweeting to download the song is gonna swing it somehow! I feared the worst when he was denied his X Factor performance and the fact he couldn't perform his song on tv at all because of that was the final nail in the coffin. Well who cares anyway, the single is still doing well and his album selling well is a given, especially on the back of his X Factor and Xtra Factor performances. He's lucky to be doing the numbers he is when the likes of Pixie Lott are flopping, and he's ahead of the rest of the X Factor pack. 100k is a bit optimistic, his biggest selling hits only just got over that. No way this would have sold more than HSAB which was more of a crossover hit, that only sold 108,000 first week. But there's no doubt he has a higher profile than 1D and a more proven track record of sales.
  23. Gotta be you is a crap song though and it's basically a ballad. Only 1D's fanbase would buy that, Olly's song is a feel good uptempo song, singles buyers love those, it's bound to have more appeal. The fact that you're predicting he'll sell more than 1D backs up that idea. Olly is panicing on twitter though, he's just tweeted this... @ollyofficial "OHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOO!! Rihanna is closing the cap in the charts!! Might not get it now!! We are still ahead!! BUT need to spread the word!!!"
  24. Ok thanks for that, very enlightening! That all sounds logical to me which is shame. I've just been taking what people are saying about Rihanna being number 1 with a pinch of salt since the predictions that WFL would massacre DWMT by some people at the start of the week. I said it's not a foregone conclusion and I've been proved right so at least that's something. Some things to consider... 1. Could Saturday not actually be a strong day for DWMT as alot of people could discover the song then, it's pretty fresh. 2. Olly could get a nice sales kick after Saturday's Xtra Factor like he did last Sundays. 3. He's doing promotion this week, Rihanna isn't. 4. Rihanna's sales could slow down, I mean won't the sales of her multiple copies slow down after the boost of the new album wears off? And how many people don't have the song by now. I don't reckon any of these things are massive factors on their own but they could combine to keep Olly's nose just ahead. I mean I don't know much about chart trends but DWMT is a pretty damn catchy song and trends don't go on forever. Just balancing the argument as most seem to be sold on the notion of Rihanna at number 1 again.
  25. What is this weekend effect and why won't it affect Rihanna? 12 hours ago Olly had sold 34,000 copies and was over 7000 ahead of WFL. How far was Rihanna behind Flo Rida in the midweeks last week?
