Nooooooooooooooooooo. I want Dermot to congratulate Olly on being number 1 live on the X Factor after his performance. Would be a sweet moment.

iTunes Chart November (III)
Yeah Matt dominated last years X Factor in terms of votes and he even won despite being ill for the last 3 weeks. He was a deserved winner based on performances and his album is decent. All it proves is that Run for your life is awful. If he'd released Starlight instead he would have been top 3 IMO. Rebecca played it too safe to deserve the win but she's looking like developing into a tidy artist... Fairtytale is a good song.

So I can relax in the knowledge that Olly will probably be number 1 then? She's 15% behind on the popularity bars, you really think she's sold that many other copies to put her 10% ahead?

iTunes Chart November (III)
Olly is 7,000 copies ahead of Rihanna, is that alot? Rihanna sold 66,941 last week and Olly's last single sold 108,000 in it's first week. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

You know what, you're half right. On a second listen of the album... Where have you been is actually quite good but it's not that distinctive so there's no way it'd be bigger than WFL, it doesn't have that killer hook. Plus the fact it isn't the 2nd single probably means that her team probably think it's a bit too simlar to WFL anyway. Roc me out could be a hit, not massive but it could do alright. You da one is rubbish, terrible decision to make that 2nd single. Talk that talk is paint by numbers Rihanna. We all want love won't be a single is because of how similar the title is to We found love IMO but it's betetr than You da one.

One Direction - Up All Night
BuzzLightyear posted a post in a topic in Harry Styles and One Direction's Harry Styles and One Direction2nd single maybe shoulda been More than this, it's a strong track. It's sounds like the autotune machine singing Take That's Babe in the style of Backstreet boys, but for some reason it's quality! :D 3rd single Stole my heart, trance songs seem to be massive atm, good track although the chorus is a bit childish.

Levels is a quality song, has it even had airplay? It's been on my running playlist for a week or two. In terms of hits, Rihanna's new album isn't a patch on Loud. WFL will be the only big hit IMO. Andfor me it's not anywhere near as good quality wise ether. 2nd single should have been We all want love but the rest aren't up to much. I guess it's hard to maintain quality when you release an album every year. She should have held a hit over from her last album like Cheers or S&M.

Rihanna is 0.8243 on the popularity bars. Olly's lead is more like 20%, without her X Factor performance or if Olly had one she'd have no chance. And yes the gap is increasing all the time. Olly has promotion lined up for this week on radio 1 etc so I can't see how Rihanna is gonna claw it back. I certainly wouldn't be confident of it anyway. Surely negated by Olly's ep sales. They probably all add up to about 100 units or something miniscule like that. I mean 532? ;)

Pixie Lott - Young Foolish Happy
Yikes, she's making Joe McElderry look big time! She's gorgeous, nice, good dancer, great voice, good writer, the papers love writing about her... it must be the singles. Two generic songs IMO. Also I think her fanbase is very young and will probably mainly buy stuff they hear on the radio?

Well alot of people, myself included, don't buy singles, they wait for the albums and get it on there, Olly has diverse appeal and I can see his older fans doing that. that said, Olly has sold over 400,000 copies of HSAB which is pretty good and it's still selling. He's that increasingly rare thing, especially in X Fator alumni, a pop artist who can sell albums as well as singles. Anyway, I totally agree that it's easy to like someone on Facebook, but as far as Twitter goes, you soon unfollow people you don't like, especially when they tweet as often as Olly does. He will have some who just follow him cos he's famous but at the end of the day its all good as they're a captive audience ripe for promotion. And as for the tour, well I bet there aren't many seats going spare come the start of it, the fact that he's playing arenas so early in his career is pretty impressive if you ask me.

That'll be because they've recently added an extra date there, as the first date there was selling so well. He's doing a few more venues twice as well due to great sales. Also who cares how much his last album sold, when as we've been talking about so I'm sure your aware, he's gained alot of new fans in a year. Still, his last album sold brilliantly. Watch how many his new one sells, his new single wouldn't be number 1 without his fanbase putting their money where their tweets are. ;)

And why shouldn't he promote himself on his own twitter account? Most artists accounts are merely promotional tools that the artists don't even tweet on, but he's always tweeting random stuff which is what it's meant for. Hey, you have to promote your songs, everyone does it. The most succesful artists are harnessing the power of social media these days. Fans enjoy being part of a collective push for number 1.

JLS - 3rd Album Jukebox// Singles
Well JLS are outselling The Wanted and will probably sell more than 1D, that's good enough in my book. Considering they fill arenas and have big selling merchandise as well you gotta say they're doing well. I just wish most of the singles weren't rubbish. Mash ups of cheesy songs like The Club is alive and the song from Gremlins in the new one, I mean come on! 3rd single should be 3D instead. Love you more, Beat again and a few others were good songs though, they need to release more of those and not take their fanbase for granted.

Well I don't know about all that stuff but it's not much of a walkover atm is it... Olly has continued to pull away from Rihanna since last night. In relation to Olly her sales are almost back to where they were before her performance. 1 Olly Murs - Dance With Me Tonight 1.0000 1.0000 2 Rihanna - We Found Love (feat. Calvin Harris) 0.8916 0.8935  Your opinion on Xtra Factor has lost all credibility when your acting as if he's a producer on the show, I mean talk about twisting things! He's never mentioned his song once, it's the production team who decide what goes in the show and Caroline and Louis were the ones to mention it last night. I very much doubt they would have been so plug heavy if he'd had a performance of his own this week like he should have. He always learns about the contestants and remains professional. Olly and Caroline have fantastic chemistry, as a pair they outdo Holly. Ok. ok I get it, you're a Holly fan! So am I. She was indeed a top presenter but let's not forget, he never replaced her did he? Last year the show hemorrhaged viewers, no one watched, they're picking the show back up again. Plus the main show was alot more popular when Holly did it and it didn't have competition like Downton Abbey and Big Brother, with all 3 on at the same time. No one's saying Olly is a better presenter but I'd say he's at least as popluar with the X Factor hardcore. Olly's fanbase brings alot of viewers in (1.4m fans on facebook, almost 1m on twitter, #1 singles, sellout arena tour. Take away the Caroline & Olly partnership this year and one man and his dog would be watching. I disagree because Simon was going for a two presenter team of one artist and one presenter in Nicole and Steve Jones over in the US as well. There's no doubt it's solidified his fanbase but they mainly wanted the viewers back and the show to work IMO.

The Worst CIN Record Ever???
HA! I bet some of the artists involved thought it would be their big break! Unlucky. Original songs are the way forward IMO.
-
Pixie Lott - Young Foolish Happy
She was banging on about breaking America 5 minutes ago, try breaking Britain luv! Tbh I didn't think either of her singles were very strong but I thought she had a strong enough fanbase to style it out. Lack of exposure?

X Factor's viewing figures are down and you would think that wiould impact on the spin off show but everything I've seen in the media has suggested the ratings are up. Most of the comments I see on twitter are people praising the show, the overall opinion of the show is definately positive. Every week topics from the show trend worldwide, it's definatey popular. The stuff you say about viewing figures is interesting but I can't find anything to back it up. Whereas I've seen quite a few references to ratings for the show being up. I think the opinion of Olly in general is of a marmite character but in the X factor world he's loved, people who would watch the Xtra Factor (hardcore X Factor fans) like him. That's why they got him to do the job!

iTunes Chart: November 2011 (II)
Truly awful? Well you're entitled to your opinion. Rihanna's song is a generic example of current pop, The Wanted, JLS etc all release the same kind of stuff; trancey singles that make a splash in the charts but don't sell albums. His song isn't even in the top 20 tv play chart but yes Xtra Factor is helping his exposure, no doubt about it. Yeah it was gratuitous advertisement! :D Tbf though alot of people only watch it for him. If you don't like him you wouldn't watch the show as he's the main personality on it. Presenting Xtra factor is the best career move he could have made! Who knew? OMG are you for real? Ratings are up and the quality of the show is the best it's ever been. The tv critics rate him, I mean it just sounds like you're biased against him. You don't like him ok but what you're saying about his affect on Xtra Factor is flat out wrong!

iTunes Chart: November 2011 (II)
Olly is continuing to pull away from Rihanna! She's had her X Factor boost and it wasn't enough? She should at least be gaining on him but she's drifted. Olly has eps as well. 1 Olly Murs - Dance With Me Tonight 1.0000 1.0000 2 Rihanna - We Found Love (feat. Calvin Harris) 0.9046 0.9239 I can't see why people want her to have another week at #1, I mean what does that prove/achieve? Even if you're not a fan, at least with Olly he's a British artist who'd break the monotony of an American artist dominating the chart. It makes our chart look weak. Plus I bet Olly had more input in his song which he has co-written a top songwriter (Claude Kelly). I mean if she gets another week it'll be boring as hell and it'll be down to X Factor exposure that Olly should have actually had.

iTunes Chart: November 2011 (II)
Btw Olly has taken back a little chunk of popularity. The power of the Xtra Factor eh. Has Rihanna stalled or will her performance make more of a steady impact? 1 Olly Murs - Dance With Me Tonight 1.0000 1.0000 2 Rihanna - We Found Love (feat. Calvin Harris) 0.9239 0.9272

Glad to see Rebecca's single making an impact but I can't help thinking her performance would have been better used to get Olly number 1. She'll need all the help she'll get to sell enough albums to keep her deal so I woulda thought a performance just before her album was out would be better for her. We found love is certainly nothing special, it's a generic dance song with a few lyrics repeated over and over. It's decent but I think the imediacy of it is it's main appeal. No need to engage the brain in any way plus it has Rihanna's distinct tone so her fanbase go mad for it. A quirky hook though I suppose. I prefer most of her last album to it though.

iTunes Chart: November 2011 (II)
Xtra Factor has been like one long advertisement for Olly's single. It's not over. :D DWMT has had little coverage so will have more steady sales than his other singles as people discover it IMO. Alot of stations are only just playlisting it now. We will soon see! Correct. :) Yeah I reckon Rihanna will overtake Olly but it'll even out as her sales drop off. Let's not forget Olly was outselling Rihanna before her performance and although Rihanna has improved he's still number 1 as things stand. Once her boost has worn off I think it'll be close. Just my opinion, could be totally wrong. Of the two is what I said. They're in competition for this week, that is the focus of what we're talking about in this thread isn't it, this week.
-
iTunes Chart: November 2011 (II)
I don't think it's a foregone conclusion at all, Olly could still do it. How many copies do we reckon he's sold of his ep to get it to #1 in the album chart?

iTunes Chart: November 2011 (II)
Nice plug for DWMT straight after Rihanna's performance, hmmm.... I actually think Rihanna's clear plug of her album will lead people to buy that instead of her single. Nice lead! Tbh even if overtaken I reckon Olly can claw it back, I reckon Rihanna's will be the more frontloaded of the two. Leona's career has pretty much bombed, I couldn't tell you one song from her last two albums and plus she's boring as hell. Cheryl isn't the best singer, same for Minogue, and Louis, Sharon and Simon couldn't even sing... it doesn't matter. He's a successful current popstar, more successful than Tulisa and doing better than Kelly.
