  2. RIP to a legend of his time. His Gaga collaborations showed that despite old age you can find a high level of relevance. I remember watching his MTV unplugged performance with Lady Gaga, it was truly heartwarming. RIP

Its quite hard to think that it took 13 years to get an all-time Taylor Swift classic into the UK charts, at least it happened! I really enjoyed Kali Uchis' last record, probably my favourite for her to date so i'm very pleased to see 'Moonlight' get a chart credit. I was quite stuck between who I would give my third vote but I think i'll give it to Taylor, its quite a fun little track that most certainly would've done really well if it had been released in 2010.

It looks like Newjeans might be on track to be the new Blackpink it seems with their rapid popularity growing, this track is cute but not good enough to deserve a vote at this time. I enjoy the production on 'Potential' but as most tracks on their new mixtape are, its dreadful when it comes to lyrics. It sad to see Prinz scoring another chart hit by ripping off 'Coming For You' once again, it just sounds so cringy and tracks that use 2021-era samples are not my favourite tbh.

Then we have Tory. 'Alone At Prom' (his 2021 record) is easily one of the worst albums of the decade so far. It is a blatant rip-off of The Weeknd's 'After Hours' and Tory's new song continues to rip that era off. Maybe his next album before he gets put in prison for possibly two decades will rip-off 'Dawn FM'?

  5. I take it we didn’t end up getting that central cee/drake song today?

It wasn't meant to be coming anyway. It is only a freestyle for On The Radar (a radio station in the states). If the freestyle was released though I could see it doing some numbers...

Yes, as Bre said there is no single from them out tomorrow. Only a freestyle for On The Radar radio, however this might be a fake freestyle as Drake did a lot of promo for his last record by doing fake stunts to gain publicity. I.e. a fake SNL performance and a fake vogue cover.

Edit: Just realised I put the word 'single' twice lol

  10. BJSC 156

    Kenny Mason - DRACULA

    1st Single from 6

Thoughts: So, my entry for BJSC 156 is 'DRACULA' by Kenny Mason, Halloween has indeed come early! I first discovered Kenny Mason in 2021 after he featured on British-American rapper IDK's album 'USee4Yourself'. Since then I have come to very much enjoy his music, especially his feature on JID's 'Dance Now' (Arguably SOTY for 2022).

    Background Info

    Kenny Mason:

Edwin Kenneth Green Jr., more commonly known as Kenny Mason is a acclaimed American rapper, singer & songwriter hailing from West Atlanta, Georgia. Green is known for his unique blend of Grunge, Hip-hop and even Shoegaze within his music, he has been releasing music since 2014. Green has citied the likes of Kendrick Lamar, My Chemical Romance, Lil Wayne, The Smashing Pumpkins and most importantly, Coldplay as his main influences.

He began his music career by forming a group with his friends called House 9. Between 2014 and 2016 House 9 released three mixtapes, during this period of time Green also started to launch his solo career. He released six mixtapes in the same time-frame which laid the foundations for the type of music Green makes to this date. Green released a few singles between 2016 and 2018 but 2019 would be his breakout year. In the October of that year he released 'Hit', the song was a breakthrough for him. It currently has over 14 million streams on Spotify and its music video has gained over 5.5 million views as of July 2023.

Green went from power to power in 2020, releasing his debut album 'Angelic Hoodrat' to critical acclaim. He also used his success to collaborate with the likes of Denzel Curry, IDK and fellow Grammy-nominated rhymer JID. In 2021 he continued to release new music, most notably a deluxe edition of 'Angelic Hoodrat' was released. He also collaborated once again with Denzel Curry (alongside Kenny Beats) on his 'Unlocked 1.5' remix album. He also featured on a song for the video game franchise League Of Legends. 2022 has provided Kenny with his biggest hits to date. Firstly he featured on Dreamvile's 'Stick' which also featured J. Cole, JID & Sheck Wes, secondly he provided two features to JID's album 'The Forever Story' including 'Dance Now' which has nearly garnered 65 million streams on Spotify since its release in August 2022.

This year he is preparing to release his sophomore record '9', in anticipation for the record he has released projects 'pr3', '3' and '6'.

  12. Week 26:

    1. Stormzy - Toxic Trait (feat. Fredo)

    2. Young Thug - Oh U Went (feat. Drake)

    3. Lyrical Lemonade, Cordae & Juice Wrld - Doomsday

    4. Young Thug - Parade On Cleveland (feat. Drake)

    5. Jain - Makeba

    6. Venbee & Rudimental - Die Young

    7. Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice & Aqua - Barbie World

After his last era, I was really quite surprised to see 'Toxic Trait' not touch the top 10. It sounded like the perfect comeback song after a relatively slow sounding era (with an exception made for the banger that is 'This Is What I Mean'), Fredo also sounds great on the track to make things even better. Despite me being on the fence about Young Thug's latest album on the whole, the two Drake collaborations are definitely an exception. 'Oh U Went' is a total banger with Thug providing a killer hook and Drake delivering a 'Her Loss'-esque verse as well. The first half of 'Parade On Cleveland' is nearly the opposite but I still enjoy the track a lot, Metro Boomin's production on both tracks also take them to another level imo.

I usually hate new Juice Wrld material, it progressively gets worse with every release. However I realise why they couldn't keep this track in his vault. Cordae hasn't really gotten any success in the UK so far in his career but he is a fantastic rapper and he raps best over classic beats imo. Unlike most of Juice's posthumous collaborations you can tell that both parts were recorded before Juice's death. The video is also really interesting, its a must-watch.

I like that Makeba is so different to everything else in the charts but I guess its just not my kind of music. I'm not too fussed on 'Die Young'. 'Barbie World' is a total abomination of a song, most certainly a contended for 2023's Worst Song Of The Year.
