Summer transfer thread 2010
Jones apparently off to Stoke for £9m. Not particularly happy with this, especially if Bruce doesn't have a replacement lined up.

Summer transfer thread 2010
The rumours doing the rounds atm are that Jones is going to be allowed to leave and we're bringing in Crouch. Not impossible, if the murmurs of a split with Abbey Clancey are true.

MARTIN O'NEILL RESIGNS
Would love O'Neill here. He's a Sunderland fan as well.

Summer transfer thread 2010
Welbeck and possibly Cleverley rumoured to be coming in on loans. Frustratingly, Bruce has confirmed he isn't looking for a left back. Right wingers are going to have a fucking field day against us this season.

Summer transfer thread 2010
Gordon's going to miss the first couple of months of the season, as I recall. He broken his arm (again) during pre-season and he's having a plate fitted. Fulop's going/gone to Ipswich which leaves us with Mignolet and Carson, both are vastly inexperienced and with the run of games we have early on it's probably not the best idea to throw them straight into the team. If we do get Hart on loan it'll probably only be for a few months. I wouldn't mind either of them tbh, anybody is better at left back than McCartney and sodding Richardson. Edit: Latest crack is that John Mensah's signed permamently for us. Delighted if it's true, despite his injury problems he was by far the best defender at the club last season.

Summer transfer thread 2010
Riveros is finally set to arrive in Sunderland within the next 48 hours in the most frustratingly drawn-out transfer since the Bent saga last season. John Mensah's said to be returning here for another season-long loan, and rumour has it we're going to try and get Joe Hart in on loan from City (Could happen after we loaned them Fulop last season). We still need a left-back though.

Summer transfer thread 2010
It's a signing that hasn't gone down too well with our fans, and tbh i'm disappointed by it as well though unlike a large percentage of our support i'm willing to give him a chance, based on how well he played under Bruce at Wigan. As for the players you named; Turner and Da Silva will surely be the first choice CB pairing next season, Bruce has told Ferdinand he can leave and Kilgallon is average at best. We're still desperate for a left back, it actually is beyond a joke. McCartney is bereft of confidence and form and needs to leave and Richardson just isn't a left back. We were hardly the most defensively solid team in the league, and that was with Mensah and Hutton in our back line, so unless Bruce strengthens (With some actual quality, not with more bargain buys) it's worrying.

Football Discussion [old]
Surprised nothing's been said about Liverpool getting Hodgson. Cracking bit of business that, Hodgson's a manager I really rate and exactly the sort of guy they need in charge currently. He's experienced, calm and (Importantly) a very likeable bloke. Fair play to Liverpool. I'd like to see Hodgson as England manager someday, though whether or not that'll happen now is open to debate.

The amazing new Nike Advert
I first saw it aired during the LOST finale, and I believe my initial comment was "what a pile of overblown shit". Turns out I was right. Ridiculous, cringeworthy, annoying advert showcasing some of football's most unbearable players. Typical Nike advert, then.

I don't enjoy it as much as their first, but that doesn't mean it's not as good. There are still some good songs on it, i'd recommend checking it out ^_^ Thanks for the comments, all.

England vs Algeria
I disagree. I think fans are well within their rights to boo when the team shows a total lack of pride or effort during a football match, especially the ones that travelled to Africa. It must have cost them a small fortune for travel, accomodation, tickets etc and then there's the fact it takes hours just to get from venue to venue. And then the team performs like that? Totally justified imo. The only thing I don't agree with in terms of booing is singling players out or doing it during a match. After a match, and so long as it's targetted at the whole team and justified I have no problems with it. They've paid all that money and spent all that time and effort to go over and support England, at the very least they expect to be entertained and get their money's worth. In all honesty if i'd been given a free ticket to watch that dirge i'd have felt shortchanged. It's unacceptable.

Yeah, maybe. It'll be getting posted in plenty anyway so I doubt it'll be buried to the bottom of the page during the season. I'll leave it up to the mods, i'm not arsed either way.

England vs Algeria
We shouldn't even be speaking about having to be entered into lots though with the group we got. We were expected to win our games, or at the very least perform acceptably. Really not arsed whether or not we go through now tbh, if we're struggling against the USAs and Algerias what chance have we got against the better teams? This is exactly why I don't buy into all the hype and get all excited about England being at the World Cup, it just leads to disappointment and heartbreak. FFS, I watch Sunderland all season, I need a break from shit performances

England vs Algeria
Rooney berating fans for booing? Seriously? WTF does he expect after that  If i'd been watching Sunderland and they'd performed like that i'd be slating them, it's unacceptable at League level so why should the England players be excempt from criticism? Fans have paid a lot of money and taken a lot of time off to go and watch them, I think they've got every right to show discontent after that.

England vs Algeria
I didn't expect us to hammer them, in fact I believe I predicted an uninspired performance and a narrow win. But what i've just witnessed really does beggar belief. "Uninspired" would be being kind.

Football Discussion [old]
I hereby revive this thread for the 2010-11 season, starting with the new fixtures released this morning. And this time i'll try to keep it going longer than a few weeks  I'm pleased we've got a home game first, and i'm also pleased that it's not against one of the top 6 (As has tended to happen in recent seasons). Our first few weeks are a mixed bag really, though we're really going to have to improve our away performances and pick up points as we've some tough home games in September/October. Overall, not too bad really. For anyone has yet to see them, click here for the full opening day fixtures.

South Africa 2010
Two teams trying not to lose, didn't make for a great spectacle and I doubt either are particularly happy with a point. The match pretty much summed up the tournament so far, too many teams playing too cautiously.

ATMOSPHERE AT A FOOTBALL MATCH? BAN IMMEDIATELY. I agree with what Grim wrote, it's ignorant and stupid calling for them to be banned. If there was that much noise and atmosphere in most Prem games over here we'd be wanking ourselves over it.

England vs Algeria
Nope, I haven't been reading any tabloids actually. It is my opinion that our team is made up of overpaid, overhyped prima donnas and no amount of PR stunts will change my mind. Say what you like about the USA neutralising us or whatever on Saturday, but where was the desire to fight back and retake the lead after their equaliser?

England vs Algeria
Honestly, i'll be stunned if we beat them by more than 2 goals. As for them being fired up, I can't see it happening. Our team typifies exactly what is wrong with modern football, no fire, no passion. They won't be fired up because they don't care. It's unfortunate but the days of having Pearces and Gascoines in our squad are long gone.
