  5. Excellent question: I know that I am in a distinct minority but I prefer to recognise the Christmas No 1 as the song which was most popular in the week which includes 25th December, even if it means waiting to find out what it was. I do the same for birthdays, Easter Day, Valentine's Day or any other date!
  6. Please add: 1955 - Dickie Valentine replaced by Bill Haley and His Comets 1956 - Johnnie Ray replaced by Guy Mitchell The rest above are perfect!

  8. I have tried to get reliable data but I failed. If I knew where it was available, I would happily do the research, it would be fascinating to compare the results to the chart based statistics. And, yes, how to compare downloads to actual sales? Nurse...
  9. Yes, but weighted by the number of weeks spent in higher positions.
  10. This is the Top 100 chart-performing artists from the Top 20 Singles charts, November 1952 to September 2024 inclusive, in the UK and the USA, combined. I have used the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the USA, mirroring the UK charts in time. There have been 4,754 different acts to have entered the UK Top 20; in the USA, they have had 3,117 different artists over the same period. 1,564 of those acts have made the Top 20 on both sides of the Atlantic. The Top 5 UK acts, in order of success in the UK, NOT to have registered a USA Top 20 hit single are: 1. Cliff Richard and the Shadows (Cliff made it as a solo artist); 2. Shadows; 3. Little Mix; 4. Robbie Williams; 5. Shakin' Stevens The Top 5 USA acts who have similarly failed in the UK are: Morgan Wallen (as a solo artist); 2. John Cougar (Mellencamp); 3. T.I.; 4. Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band; 5. Linda Ronstadt The Top 5 acts to have made both charts for at least 1 week, least successfully, in order of least success, are: 1. Hipsway; 2= Pigmeat Markham and Ferko String Band; 4. Blind Melon; 5. Paul Russell In the list below, Elvis is the unsurprising winner, he has a huge lead over Madonna; there is a fair gap between Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson as well. Enjoy. If you are curious about other artists, let me know. 75 EPs charted between 1956 and 2011. They contained individual songs, so I don't think one can simply add up their total times to say it's the longest Top 20 entry - but I can try?! I suspect Orb would still be longer...

OK. Then: 2008: Leona Lewis - Better in Time / Footprints in the Sand - charted between March and May inclusive Bandaged - Little Drummer Boy / Peace on Earth - late December for 2 weeks - so I suppose the next last double-A side unless that was a combination as well... McFly - Do Ya? / Stay with Me - early December for 1 week

Thank you: I did not look far enough down the spreadsheet for 1992, it ranked 115 out of 274 for that year. <_<

In 2010: the Glee Cast charted two double-A sides simultaneously in February - Halo / Walking on Sunshine at No 9 and It's My Life / Confessions Part II at No 14. They both lasted 2 weeks in the Top 20. There have been no other double-A sides since 2010. There were 320 double-A sides to reach the Top 20, the first in 1954 and the most with 21 in 2004. Thank you to all about Orb's longest single.

  18. For chart history anoraks' amusement. Note: Change at No 1 is not the same as Different No 1s: there have been 77 weeks when previous No 1s have returned to No 1, including re-issues, even if some of the lyrics have been altered. 21. Yes, an interesting one, I remember, when I was doing the research, thinking: born in Switzerland but the kicker for me is that both his parents were Italian citizens plus they all moved back to Italy when piccolo Roberto was still a small child and he practiced as a DJ in Italy for most of his too short life.
