It has visited every Top 20 position except No 1 - it would be poetic justice for it to climb to the summit this year, with both lead singers looking down.

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas songs, I'm a big fan of Wham!, Brenda Lee, Leona Lewis, Boney M, East 17, Wizzard, Mud, Slade, etc.. But it just doesn't feel right. How about only Christmas songs released in the last 3 years only? The rest in a separate Christmas chart.

I have added the peak positions in the original post. Point of interest: the average peak position for every title to have ever entered the Top 20 is No 9 and the average 1st week entry position has been No 13. For the 75 EPs listed above, the average peak position is No 11, a significant difference: was it worth it?

Not my definition (this time!) it's what I have assumed for the last 55 years: the list above is what the record companies have defined as EPs with their releases. I agree, it's not consistent and that aggravates my compulsively ordered mind.

Messy OCC, totally agree. They don't even correct obvious mistakes when you tell them. Buzzjack is much better, not least because of helpful corrections, additions, etc. Re your comments and others above: it comes down to the definition of an EP - is it three songs, fours songs, more, the limit? I always thought an EP was 4 songs but record companies used their own definitions and, if it's advertised as "EP", those are the ones I've included, Leona Lewis for example. I suppose Robson & Jerome's 3-song efforts would then be classed in the same category but they were sold as "Singles". I'm happy to add some more to the list if that's the general opinion.

Cameo had a hit in 1986 with Word Up!. This was covered by Gun in 1994 and Mel B in 1996, both known at the time by this scribbler. But I missed Little Mix's version in 2014, which now makes a total of 1,014 covers from 832 different songs out of 14,179 Top 20 entries to date.

The Faces 1972 hit Stay With Me was covered by McFly's double-A side in 2008 as Do Ya / Stay With Me. 832 / 1,013. Incidentally, the most used title of Top 20 songs since 1952 is "Stay" with 14 different instances and 12 different songs.

Pharrell Williams' Frontin' from 2003 was covered a year later by Jamie Cullum's Double-A side These Are the Days / Frontin'. 831 / 1,012.

The Jacksons' Can You Feel It? from 1981 was covered and taken to ultimate glory by Tamperer in 1998 with a week at No 1; in 2004, the boy band V had a No 5 Double-A side hit with Hip to Hip / Can You Feel it? So, not a new Cover but an extra one: 830 / 1,011.

Stop was a 1989 No 17 hit for Sam Brown. In 2004, Jamelia had a Double-A side No 9 hit with DJ / Stop - with 6 letters, surely the shortest titled of all 313 Double-A side hits between 1954 and 2010? Stop was a cover of the Sam Brown song. 830 / 1,010.
