Ry X - Only- STUNNING! Is this TikTok and YouTube pushing that? Paramore - That's What You Get There is a shocking lack of Paramore certificated tracks. Considering the number of their albums. The Coral - In The Morning, Up the WIRRAL!

Hanging by a Moment flopped and then that was that. 4 US top 10 Albums, 0 charted in the UK. They've always existed in my head as a great example of how the US chart and UK chart used to be very different.

YAY for Can't Catch Me Now. Hoping the next Hunger Games will get it to Platinum. Lifehouse- You and Me is such a good song. I was always surprised they did so well in the USA in the 00s and did NOTHING here. Its weird. You and Me it seems has seen a surge through fanvideos and edits on social I guess. With that in mind, You and Me got to Gold and Everything is still not at silver?

Could CDs/digital downloads ever make a comeback?
I still buy CDs. Streaming feels like rental. I use it to find new music. Not to have a collection of music I love

2025 BPI Certifications
With streaming every song gets more certifications in time. That's what bothers me a bit now. Does it really represent success properly or just time. If you know what I mean? If a #12 peak can go platinum 15 years later, what does it actually mean?

Top 100 chart criteria during the noughties
I remember you could chart from imports too. I remember some songs would make it big in Ibiza and then chart on imports. Trance/Dance was very popular in the early 00s. Stuff didn't even need lyrics really. There were loads of songs that had titles like 'city sounds' on old Chillout compilation CDs around this time. 'The Sound of Oh Yeah' on your 2000s playlist has Ibiza import written all over it. 40-100 in the 00s are not going to be hits. If a record company pressed CDs and it didn't get in the top 40 its an abject failure. Music was not democratic. Thinking back on some of my fave 00s obscure tracks. Televators by The Mars Volta. That was played a lot on MTV2. It got to number one on the Rock and Metal chart. Not top 40 though. Auf Der Maur had some great songs around the same time. Taste You did not go Top 40. Through Glass by Stone Sour. Enjoy the Silence by Lacuna Coil. Salt Sweat Sugar- Jimmy Eat World Ocean Avenue- Yellowcard I was very alt as a teen...

Robbed of Number One by Blu Cantrell. That's been getting steady sales. Robin S- Show me love Classic, now multi platinum. Cream rises to the top

TikTok's Top 10 Songs of 2024: Tinashe's Nasty #1
'the success of "Nasty" on TikTok has cemented Tinashe as a global star.' LOL TikTok songs don't make stars, they make background content

BAND AID 40 PREDICTION
Why are they ignoring the 1989 Band Aid? Although having listened to it, could I take every line being sung 4 times? No

Christmas #01 betting odds
If Defying Gravity was to get to number one, it would be there now after opening weekend. Unless there is a big TikTok moment with it. I don't see it getting there. I'd love a top 10 peak for that though.

Live Lounge Allstars - Times Like These
I'd love this to go to 1, purely to immortalise the song. And to give Dave Grohl his chart trophy! Its original chart placing is woeful, stellar for a rock act today though!

Top of the Pops Christmas/New Year's

Shame we won't get a Linkin Park re-peak. Really shows you how popular they were and how tastes have changed. 4 top 10s, 10 top 20s, 16 top 40s. (each inclusive the previous) How many rock bands have had that success the last 20 years? The Killers, 12 Top 40, of which 4 were top 10. Foos, 11 top 40 since 2000 or which 3 were top 10.

Paramore - After Laughter
Everyone always loves my least favs. Hoping Rose Coloured Boy is a grower. Its a hell of a change of direction, probably prefaced by Still Into You. There is always that track on Paramore albums, Careful sounds like it should have been on Riot, Hallelujah sounds like it should have been on All we Know is Falling. The 80s techno choice is interesting

OCC: "We will look into the way charts are compiled"
I hope the record companies exert more pressure. Radio is probably screaming about now. They can't play 10 Drake songs or 10 Ed Sheeran songs on a loop. The chart determines popularity which in turn determines radio play. It would be OK if it made radio, especially commercial radio become more experimental in its track selection but its not happening. How are new artists meant to get a solid footing when Drake and Ed push their debut singles 5-10 spots lower? How are record companies meant to sell that? Time was if you didn't debut in the top 10 you never had a hit, this led to first week peaks and steep drops. I like the chart moving around, up and down but there needs to be a good influx of new stuff. I also like that old tracks can re-peak spontaneously. And no I don't think streaming is necessarily the problem. That is the way music consumption is going and it needs to be reflected but the OCC need to figure out how and where the limits are. This has been a problem in the rock chart ever since the inception of downloads. Its a nostalgia chart mostly. Bring me to Life by Evanescence probably has 500 weeks tallied on it.

I need Lukas Graham gone, that is some mid 00s Newton Faulkner nonsense

I like American Oxygen but don't like the lyrics. If that makes any sort of sense. She could be reciting the phone book to that tune and I would like it. The BBHMM Slipknot remix is a beast. The actual track, not so much
