  1. What does JLO even have on Vevo? Her two songs this year and a smallish back catalogue around 10 years old?
  2. #9 Chase and Status ft. Delilah- Time (Download/ 29th April 2011) UK Chart Peak: 21 There is something beautiful about Delilah's voice in this wistful melody. we9jeU76Y9E&ob=av2n #10 Wretch 32 ft. Josh Kumra- Don't Go (Download/14th August 2011) UK Chart Peak: 1 Its rare to see two men dueting these days. This song just seems no effortless, so natural. bj1BMpUnzT8 #11 Adele- Rolling in the Deep (CD Single + Digital EP/ January 17th 2011) UK Chart Peak: 2 I didn't much like Adele before 21. She always seemed a bit mopey so I was blown away when she actually brought out a song with so much momentum. Then she just kept on going with Someone like You, Set Fire to the Rain and Turning Tables. She's just evolved so much. Now even her songs that strips away the instruments have some interesting flourishes in the tune. rYEDA3JcQqw&ob=av3e #12 Foo Fighters- Arlandria (Live) (Download/ 5th September 2011) UK Chart Peak: #79 Notice I specify the live version. The studio version lacks the strength and rawness that comes across in Foo performances. This song is brought alive by playing it with all the faults and passion in Dave's voice. Rp6SwxUtfLI
  3. 1989 ;) Loved this list. It really should be given to X Factor judges for Club Classics week so they choose actual Club songs
  4. It doesn't look like Play has updated since Christmas. Its full of Nirvana and Lou Monte still. As for Amazon I'm unsure. They list it as both as an album and a song. #10 in mp3 albums, #1 in mp3 songs
  5. Talk that Talk is a weak album as a whole. Probably her worst since Music of the Sun but I've promised myself I would re-evaluate it on CD instead of just going by spotify and my comp speakers.

That is exactly how I would rank Breakaway. One of the best pop albums of the last decade. Only Sober and Stronger have stood out to me as Breakaway level songs since.
  7. Thing is, its still not top 10 combined so looks to have no chance of an official top 10
  8. It edges to number one, nearly, nearly....then 99p! Just to get to you Bray
  9. Its odd isn't it? Its not like the single has an expiry date. Its not particularly christmassy. But its going the way of all the other campaign songs. I think it shows that people saw it as a charity event and are casting it off like you would cast off a poppy after Rememberance Day.
  10. Military Wives down to 12, Rihanna back to back at 9 and 10!
  11. #5 Kanye West ft Rihanna- All of the Lights (Download/January 18th 2011) UK Chart Peak- #15 I was so utterly frustrated with this song not going top 10. This is a proper party starter, DAT INTRO. Only Kanye would get the trumpets out, roll out the red carpet and proceed to crush the competition. I always credit Kanye for bringing dance music back properly with Stronger, well here he is showing us how its going to go forward. Kanye brought it with this song, its relentless. HAfFfqiYLp0 #6 Katy B- Broken Record (Download/25th March 2011) UK Chart Peak- #8 Having not been a fan of Katy B's previous stuff I was shocked that I loved this as much as I did. Its a graceful and melancholy song focusing the the lyrics and not consciously becoming a club hit. oES929aenGc&ob=av2e #7 The Joy Formidable- Whirring (Download/March 2011) UK Chart Peak- ## Probably the best rock song of the year, a re-release of a 2009 EP track. There is something glorious about the frail voice given steel by the backing of a constant drum beat. Its oddly uplifting. a2BUEzdjfpY #8 Ben Howard- Keep Your Head Up UK Chart Peak= #74 Ben Howard taps into the british spirit in the same way Mumford and Sons do. Howard finds that core of us that with weather any storm with your head held high if you can complain about doing it a bit. This is a song about the triumph of muddling through and holding on to who you are throughout. Its an anthem of getting through the hard times and finding joy in it. 12. Military Wives are right out of the top 10!

She sounds like the sound effects on an electric keyboard a lot of the time which is why I think she didn't benefit from her TOTP performance as much as we would have expected. 6 million people hearing her do impressions of a coin plopping into water at the end of her sentences.
  14. This is my first chart, hope I'm doing this right. Songs must be released, charted or re-released in 2011 #1 Natalia Kills- Mirrors (CD Single/18th April 2011) UK chart peak- #190 Listen to this song LOUD to really appreciate how good it actually is. Probably overshadowed by Rihanna's S&M and Gaga deciding she wanted to be something from a Tim Burton film. Kills wanders the line between pop, dance and the dark in a way Gaga couldn't without looking as if she really needs a bath. Had this been a Gaga song we would have been looking at the next Bad Romance. As it is bad marketing and bad timing killed Kills' chances in the UK. g4By_cfI_1g&ob=av2e #2 Drake ft. Rihanna- Take Care (Download/14th November 2011) UK Chart Peak- #9 Ah, the Harvester of Pauses returns with a Gil Scott Heron cover version. This should never have worked. It is the most beautiful song this year and subverts the usual rap duet focused on the tough man and emotionally fragile woman much like Puff Daddy and Faith Evans, Nicki Minaj and Drake and Rihanna and er...Drake. Yet, its not a ballad, its baseline is constant and coupled with the haunting vocal creates something mesmerising. Now Drake isn't it better when you're not trying to posture your 'manliness' and don't succumb to rapper sterotypes? 3hgFP8p5Suk #3 Warpaint- Undertow (Download/11th April 2011) UK Chart peak- ## I almost have no words for this song. Its sweeping, its passionate, its summer nights in 4 minutes 26 seconds and I'm in love. BMkqbY0oGKQ #4 Clare Maguire- The Last Dance (Download/20th February 2011) UK Chart Peak- #23 I first discovered Maguire with her debut, the Breakage Remix of Ain't Nobody and The Last Dance continues that fusion of the high energy, epic, gothic love song. In fact, between this and Ain't Nobody you can see the forerunning of Adele's massive Rolling in the Deep which shares a similar tune. TpDjO3NQxdY To be Continued...

I'm still annoyed Jessie J won.It was the critical press that started the ball rolling on her. Warpaint- Undertow Clare Maguire- Ain't Nobody, Shield and the Sword, The Last Dance James Blake- Limit to your Love, Wilhelm Scream Yuck- Get Away The Naked and the Famous- Young Blood Nero- Crush on You All individually better than Jessie J's collective output. Yes, I don't like Jessie J and her weird performance style and her pedestrian song writing.

Now folks, don't lead me on. Is the album Breakaway good?
  17. What channels? I think I've seen it twice <_<
  18. We are lucky we have such a big store in town. That said often you have to hunt for the 2 for 10 in the back catalogue sections as they only put the more mainstream stuff on display up front (and that display disappered in December for Christmas 'offers' and stuff like Gaga was removed from the offer). So you'll find stuff like The Naked and the Famous on sale in their little section where the Katy Perry and Rihanna will be at the front of the store making it hard to browse the entire offer unless you are specifically looking and get a good surprise. And stuff you expect to be in the promotion isn't. So Albums from this october can be in the offer but James Blake and Clare Maguire are still full price a year on.
  19. I thought that song was by Beverley Knight for two weeks before I figured it was Alexandra. So not her style
  20. I'm barely seeing any TV play for Kelly and she's going to get drowned out by the 'best of 2011' for a week at least
  21. Albums will be in freefall this week anyway especially with no new or big holdover releases. The nearest is Amy which doesn't seem made for longevity. A better indicator is that Military Wives sold 25% of its copies as a download last we heard which would put them at 120% of Coldplay but the gift factor for the physical is gone. It might be close and it looks like the download is in freefall if there is a similar pattern in other outlets.
  22. I'd miss walking into HMV and picking up 2 items for £10 which often predates a similar amazon discount
  23. I think it was half and half. It did show some of her excesses (the Telephone video) and some of the mistakes (going too aesthetically dark starting with Alejandro) that would emerge in the BTW era but Bad Romance, Telephone and Monster feel very Fame-y to me. Monster especially seems like the last time I've had fun with a Gaga song, why oh why didn't she release it as a single. Its a bit of Gaga genius.
  24. This is one of the better ones. The last 2 were messes.
  25. I'm with you Bre. I love Snow Patrol but I've never liked Chasing Cars. I like that they have put that behind then and are going back to their up tempo sound like Spitting Games, Chocolate, You're all that I have.
